Don't make me choose
The only thing better than dialing in compression at the beginning of a session is exporting files at the end. I hope I never have to choose between the two.

Get some rest, little mics
Just wrapped day 3 of recording a great band from Toronto-by-way-of-Brooklyn. Drums are in the bag, hence the resting mics.
(Little do they know we start guitar and bass tomorrow...)
Recording big (and I mean big) drums today
My go-to approach starts with a Glyn Johns. Then the 421s wind up on the vintage Slingerland toms. An EV of some kind ends on up on the matching snare. A D112 creeps into the 24" birch kick, and a wurst mic hovers over it. Then the room mics go up. Next thing you know it's spaghetti time at the input box. And the at patch bay, sending the operative signals through crunchy eight Tascam 388 channel strips and some compression.
Boom bap is born.
