The Orchard Sessions: Volume 11
Volume 11: The Back Story
The History:
Here's some REAL LEGITIMATE HISTORY. Do y'all know where I went to High School? I went to Hastings High School, New York, 10706. Put it in yer books and don't forget. SUPER IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
Okay back to seriousness. While at that venerable institution I was fortunate enough to meet a young singer named Johanna Warren. We were both in a small community of people that were making music. Jo has been special since day one.
So when I saw a beautiful self made video of her singing I thought it would be pretty badass to bring her into the living room. And then I called Sachi and Gavin and everybody snapped into gear and we set up this session in just under 24 hours. We learned the song as we set up. This is the kind of session I dream about.
The Personnel:
Johanna Warren
Musicians and people like Jo are really hard to come by. She is blisteringly authentic. When she first sent me the audio for this song I thought there must be an (amazing) effect on her voice to have it sound like that, but people, I WAS WRONG. Jo's voice sounds like that every time she opens her mouth. She's currently touring with Iron and Wine and has a record set to hit which you should keep your eyes peeled for.
Andrea Tomasi
I met Andrea through Jo and we realized quickly that in true NY musician fashion we had about 9 million people in common. I had the pleasure of checking out Andrea's own solo project and it is STUNNING. Do yerself a favor and head over to her internet things and listen (her song 'out to sea' is something. else.)
In Conclusion:
These past few months have been really important for me. You may have noticed that we've been putting out these sessions more frequently. That is due entirely to my AMAZING team: Sachi Machlachlan on video/edits and Gavin Skal on audio (recording and mixing). These people are some of my dearest friends and are magnificent, insanely talented artists. I am thankful for my creative community on both sides of this screen. And thankful for you!
Happy Sunday.
Love, T
