Does Seeing 6 Follicles on a Scan Mean 6 Eggs? 🤔 Let’s understand it in simple words.
🫧 A follicle is a small fluid-filled sac inside the ovary. 🥚 Usually, each follicle contains one egg (oocyte).
But… Seeing 6 follicles does NOT always mean there will be 6 mature eggs.
This is because:
Some eggs may not be mature
Some eggs may have poor quality
Sometimes a follicle can be empty
That’s why in IVF treatment, not only the number of eggs, but also the quality of eggs is very important.
What Determines Egg Quality?
1️⃣ Age of the woman 2️⃣ AMH level (indicates ovarian egg reserve) 3️⃣ AFC count (number of follicles seen on ultrasound)
