"Is it true Deirdre?" Elena holds her hands behind her back and a playful smile colors her face. "To my beloved friend," she begins as she holds out a small box. On the top is an assortment of tea leaves, but in the box itself, a small pot and cup that were light and durable.
"I still have quite a ways to go in knowing you well, but for now, I hope this gift is acceptable. I hope this day and all future ones are spent surrounded by those you love."
"For me?" Truly, it would not matter what was even in Elena's box. Just hearing the other woman refer to her as her beloved friend was more than enough to brighten her spirits on her birthday. She remembers Elena speaking about being wary and careful. She hopes this is a sign that, maybe, the other woman might feel comfortable and safe with her.
Deirdre opens the box and smiles when she sees what is contained inside. "Just like when we met! I cannot wait to try this blend but I do hope you will join me. Tea always tastes better when shared and I would love to spend my birthday with a dear friend."
