The Talking Heads have released a video for 'Psycho Killer' that was directed by Mike Mills (a director whose work I enjoy) and starring Saoirse Ronan. The song is 48 years old, having arrived into the world in 1977 with The Talking Heads first album. As the band themselves wrote, “We LOVE what this video is NOT—it’s not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent or obvious.”

To jump off one of the comments to this video, I'm all here for people making videos for previously released material. It feels like such an obvious move. Let's hope more bands allow this kind of thing to flourish (although I doubt any will).

While there are countless terrible things being made manifest in the world, there's also enjoyable human excursions into weird creativity as embodied by the French Canadian duo 'Angine de Poitrine.' Two anonymous musicians crafting some fun tuneage with live looping that warrants a certain amount of respect for craft. The band is on the way to becoming more widely known with the release of their second album and having gone viral. Human beings being artistic and having fun is a great part of why we, as a species, make music to begin with and why so-called "AI Music" will always sound soulless and lifeless to my ears.

I think this might be one of the earliest video recordings of the Talking Heads playing live at the Kitchen in SoHo in 1976. David Byrne is 23 years old. He's a baby, appearing both awkward and uncomfortable. The band is just one year old. Their first album would be coming out a year later (with the addition of fourth member Jerry Harrison on keyboards and guitar). You'll hear an early variation of Psycho Killer. You'll hear songs that will eventually appear on the album 'More Songs About Buildings and Food'. If you like the Talking Heads then I suggest giving this a watch. There's two sets over 90 minutes or so and an encore. Glad I came across this video. It's been up for about a year. If you also didn't know about it now you do too. Enjoy.

Two of the founding members of the band got back together to revive the project and released a new album in 2023.

"Spanning the years 1937–2001, the collection should especially appeal to those with an avant-garde or musicological bent." Not everything in here is appealing to me but there are some wonderful compositions buried in this compilation. As noted in the article, there's some deficiencies in the overall selection given a lack of women and non-Western composers (additional links at the bottom of the article somewhat compensate for this lack) but it's still a sufficient overview of "avant-garde" electronic music. Came across this album several months ago. 'Golden', the selected song here, is loud and noisy and it grabbed my attention almost immediately. If you're in the mood for some crunchy guitars that seem intent on making love to your ears in order to give birth to tinnitus then this is the song for you (that, kids, is what's called hyperbole).
