The Knight and His Queen
Continued from here. @orderedxswordman
The information Steiner chose to share with her came as a surprise to the Queen. Becoming a Knight was not his first choice? He once thought of becoming a mage or scholar? It made Garnet realize just how little she knew of him, of his past, despite always wanting to know more about the people in her life. He meant a lot to the Queen - he was family, one of her best friends, someone she could trust, rely on and confide in no matter what it was. He always protected her and never gave her any reason to distrust him. Not to mention completely loyal, never once turning against her nor leaving her side.
So to hear this information was both a welcome surprise and sad - welcome because she was learning more about him, but sad because it seemed as though this life were forced upon him. Was he unhappy, she wondered? If he had the opportunity to seek another path in life, would he take it?
Garnet didn’t want him to feel trapped here. She wanted him happy, she wanted him to live the life he wanted to live, even if that meant elsewhere.
“I had no idea.” She finally responds after a few moments, her eyes on the drink in her hands, non-alcoholic of course. “Do you ever feel... regret?” She asks him, her eyes lifting to look at him again. “Or wish that you were no longer a Knight?”
