Right Ankle Trimalleolar ORIF Surgery
October 22nd Plates were place on the inside and outside of my ankle. Once waking up from surgery, I felt an insane amount of pain on the outside part of my ankle. The doctor was puzzled since they gave me a nerve blocker for that area, though apparently it didn’t effect me. They gave me fentanyl, pain went away.
4 hours later- Immense pain. Probably more painful then the actual fracture. Any little movement or shift in weight hurt a lot. Burning/tingling sensation on the heal and toes. Morphine didn’t work for me, I would recommend sticking to Norco. Morphine took away the muscle pain but left me to focus on the bone pain.
1 week- the pain lessened. I was cleared to use a band to stretch my foot back and forth. When I would take the splint off I saw an insane loss of muscle. Kind of shocking but it made sense.
3 weeks- was cleared to be in a boot. This took a lot of effort, my foot did not want to be placed at a 90 degree angle. My Achilles tendon burned immensely, it was one hell of a painful experienced. I would say it took maybe 3 days of forcing the foot at that angle and enduring it to finally not be too bothered by the tendon.
4 weeks - Ankle pain is manageable, off any type of pain meds
9 weeks- Allowed to walk with boot
11 weeks- Allowed to walk without boot
Today-13 weeks- I currently am going to physical therapy. I have a limp and my ankle swells from time to time. My ankle can’t seem to move past 90 degrees, though working on it
