written for a servers oc-tober question of the day!!
It had been three hours since Silas found the coin, tucked away under the floorboards in the storage room for the stables at Hawthorne Academy. It was a room he had frequented many times, and yet it was today he had found it, in the middle of a breakdown.
It had lit up the room, shining through the cracks of the floor. Beside it was a note.
You must make two wishes. The first wish will reflect back onto someone in your life that you despise. The second, onto someone you love. If you do not make these wishes, you will be cursed.
Choose wisely, and good luck.
He stared at the coin in his hand, running his fingers over the odd markings carved into it.
Standing, Silas grasped the coin tightly and walked out toward the field. He made his way toward a large tree, resting against it and staring into the woods that bordered the backside of the academy. He raised his arm and tried to swing it forward, to toss the coin into the overgrown bushes in front of him. But his limbs wouldn’t move, wouldn’t let him dispose of the coin.
“Stupid coin,” he muttered, lowering his hand and opening it to look at the golden circle once more. “You want me to make a wish that bad?”
The coin didn't answer, because of course it didn’t, but Silas could have sworn it caught the light in a way that almost made it seem like it was winking.
“Fine,” he muttered, letting his wings flutter in the light wind. “I wish…that no one blows anything up in Alchemy today.” He wished lamely, waiting for something to happen, for the wish to backfire in some way.
Nothing happened.
The fear in his heart subsided. “I bet you aren’t even real,” he said to the coin. “You probably don’t even do anything.” Laughing, he thought about his second wish, now ignoring the consequences the note had warned him about. He waited for a moment, looking around him. If he was going to fall for this, he figured he should wish for something that mattered.
“I wish that I could love myself as much as Damien loves me.”
All was silent, for a moment. Silas sighed, turning back toward the Academy just in time to hear the loud, bellowing voice of his father all the way from the third floor, and then see the Alchemy classroom go up in flames.
It didn’t register to him what was happening at first. And then….
“Shit.” His first wish. It had been taken out on his father. Which meant… “Shit.”
He ran to the group of students gathering in the field, away from the fire. His eyes searched for the familiarity of sleek black hair, of red horns and redder eyes. Of the swish of Damiens demon tail.
“Damien?” he yelled, pushing people out of his way with his wings. “Daim? Where are you?”
Students whispered as he called out, watching his frantic movements, but he didn’t care. Not until he found Damien.
His eyes fell on an all too familiar cropped uniform top. “Damien! Damien, love, are you alright?”
The red eyes that stared back at him were blank. “Sorry, have we met?”
