Okay, okay. I'm aware my original content is not palatable to the masses. Like? Not really at all. And inherently there's nothing wrong with that, but of course it leaves me very discouraged when my original works go more ignored than I'd feel like they deserve.
But yes, I'm aware my content can be more raunchy, grim, and specific than the masses on the internet really care for. The thing I have to cope with is that I personally, really, Reaally care about my own creations. This is something I probably have to learn to deal with. By myself. But I admit it gets me down. And I also feel like it's justified
I’m burning to know if these are related- which one of the following applies to you?
Had imaginary friends as a child, makes oc content now
Had imaginary friends as a child, doesn’t make oc content now
Didn’t have imaginary friends as a child, makes oc content now
Didn’t have imaginary friends as a child, doesn’t make oc content now
Other??
I would have no problem with post+ if this site hadn’t spent the last 3 owners or more trying to run off original content creators, blacklisting links to outside websites were we can make money, and making it impossible for people to find our books/art/crafts/merch in search. Even though this site is now owned by the company who owns wordpress, I don’t think you can find wordpress links in search so it still makes this website to me completely USELESS. (Since I post my book for free on Wordpress/Wattpad/Royal Road right now.) So, now when posts that are so long can’t be found in search at all (why post stories here if that is the case,) they want to say “oh, we’ll make it so you can make money off of your posts!”
Absolutely not. I don’t want to blame Awesome media for the things Verizon etc have done. It’s just first they need to go in and reverse some of the decisions the previous owners have made before they try to make a profit off of us. Let us link to Etsy, Ko-Fi, Patreon, and Amazon and be FOUND in searches. If they want us to post our book chapters to this site, then long posts with read mores need to be FOUND in searches.
And they need to be absolutely clear if you want to do original stuff and you want to do fanwork stuff, then those blogs are going to have to be completely different. Fanwork stuff can’t be monetized and they aren’t being clear on that at all. Just “well, if you do it, we aren’t going to help you, b/c it is your fault, but we are going to make it sound like you can.” This is a lawsuit waiting to happen from places like Disney to kids on this site, and adults on this site to Tumblr.
I am FINE with original content creators monetizing their work. I am completely frustrated as an original content creator, the algorithms and blacklistings make it IMPOSSIBLE for people to FIND my work at all. If they want to make a profit off of us, then for the love of god, make us discoverable in searches. Let us be able to make a profit off our own work through other sites where we’re being scraped for royalties already.
It’s impossible to find an audience for my cozy werewolf biker dramas if no one can you know, find them without messaging people directly which is considered SPAM. Go figure.
