MORE art of my main crooked moon character (Merry) and little doodle of my backup character, a wizard harvestborn who I don’t know the name of yet (But the DM has decided to nickname them Thistle)
(The things Merry is juggling were originally doll heads, but they have been replaced)
but i’m sure merry won’t die anytime soon, right? Right?
anyway, my dm has got me way too invested about this campaign, i’ve drawn Merry way too many times. Maybe I just need to draw them EVEN MORE
Class: Fighter with psionic manifestation abilities (homebrew)
Background-
Bastion, where to begin with Bastion, he's a fighter to say the least, he doesn't have any personal vendettas nor is he adventuring because he has some “duty” he wants to fulfill but instead…
He does this to fight people he finds interesting.
At a young age Bastion had an unorthodox upbringing, his father taught him that fights were sacred, and that every fight has value behind. He was raised to respect his opponent and to not hold back nor humiliate them.
But his father also taught him that in this world he had to look out for both himself and those close to him, just as his father did, as his dad would sometimes steal food if he found the pricing to be ridiculous, but would share it with Bastion.
To Bastion, his father represented everything he wanted to become, someone who didn't care much for being good or evil, someone who didn't stick with laws but instead did things because he wanted to, because he wanted to be himself, and to him that meant fighting and befriending his opponents. Which is why he holds so tightly onto the dagger his father passed down to him when his father's time came, all to remind himself of what he stands for.
Bastion however does have a few flaws, he tends to be apathetic to people he finds “boring” (mostly those who are so called “Pacifists” who claim fighting is pure evil and in general are stuck up panzees in his eyes or people who fight to prove their superiority without showing their opponents respect) and can tend to come off as cold if not out right cruel, dismissing someone's troubles by simply saying “if you don't like how your life is going than fix your own problems”.
That along with being selfish at times, stealing something he finds personally useful to him, not if they're monetarily valuable but instead if he thinks he'd get some use out of it… might explain why he doesn't have much money.
But despite that, Bastion has one deep seated hatred, he hates one simple thing, the idea that power means someone gets the right to impose their will onto others. He views that as an utter spit in the face to everything he stands for, the idea that someone would rather hurt others to make them obey instead of allowing themselves to be challenged by others in good sportsmanship greatly infuriates Bastion.
Perhaps that's why despite all his claims of not “caring if a god likes me or not” he is awakened to his psionic powers by Sardior, the ruby dragon. With said god even personally giving him a shard of his scales that is implanted onto Bastion's dagger.
He is the freest man in the world, or at least he wants to be, but his heart still need to find the desire to liberate those who are oppressed, for the freest man does not simply live life without care, but instead pushes others towards their own freedom, their own ability to live as who they want to be.
How his play style works:
Bastion has two forms
Base form in which he doesn't actually wear any armor, he prefers wearing light that he can breathe in so he only has his base armor class but has pretty high movement speed (40 feet max) letting him get close to the enemy.
In this form he dual wields his arming sword and his dagger, he is a dive character who likes getting in close and shredding his opponents with his full strength.
However he wears a belt buckle which has a sheath for his dagger that when he inserts grants him his psionic manifestation, in which he creates an armor made of psionic energy that resembles that of a Rhinoceros beetle mixed with knights armor.
This increases his AC by +5 but decreases his speed by 5 feet meaning he can only move 35 feet.
In this stat he loses access to his dagger but instead his psionic powers create a coating over his sword that temporarily transforms it into a great sword, so he trades his speed for strength and striking power.
However this form only lasts for so long as after every two turns he has to expend a spell slot to keep it going, which means he isn't going to be able to use any spells.
Character quotes:
“Look I don't much care for the idea of a king but if you shmucks think I'm letting a single one of you hurt other people or hurt people I care about, I'm kicking your ass and burning the crown”
“Don't cry to me because you're suffering, if you let your problems consume your life and you choose to do nothing about it, that's your own damn fault.”
“It doesn't matter if you won this fight, I'm just glad I got to see who you are. You fought hard and for that I respect you. Now just keep training and improving and hopefully next time you'll beat me.”
“I'm not some hero, but I'll be damned if I let some arrogant bastards hurt my team. So you all better get ready because the fight’s just getting started.”
“Hey, don't cry kid, I'm sure your folks are watching you from heaven, I know my old man is, so don't waste your tears on the ending, save em for the challenges ahead, and let them fuel you to keep going, because at the end of that dark tunnel, all those tears will have grass growing to form a path for other people behind you… if that makes sense.”
“You wanna know why I'm a jackass? Sure I'll tell you why, it's cause there are three types of people in this shitpit, there are those who use their so-called Justice to oppress others or enact cruelty upon them, there are those who snivel and hide from responsibility because they're too scared of actually doing something with their lives and would rather be told what to do like sheep being led to the slaughter, then there's people who don't bother with aligning themselves to some moral code and instead do what they want to do because they want to do it, good people, genuine good people don't go on Long spills about their moral code they help people because they want to help people, and if you can't get that then you don't understand the first thing about what it means to be a person.”
“... I get it now, I'm the jackass here, my old man taught me or at least I thought he taught me that I needed to not rely on others, that I needed to fix my own problems and not wait for someone to save me, what are you actually taught me wasn't far off but it wasn't exactly what I thought it was, he wasn't teaching me to be heartless he was teaching me to be independent but also caring, I keep telling people to fix their own problems but it ain't that simple sometimes, I guess time to refine. I still stand by what I believe in I will never say my ideals are in the wrong but I'm not going to say they're 100% perfect, someday when my back is to the wall and the people I care for are in pain or people that I know have the ability to fight but just can't win are in danger, I can't just give my old heartless spiel, I have to be there so I can help them be free.”
So a nearly a year and a half ago, I decided to make my best friend Emma character cards of the gods from our dnd campaign - lovely referred to as Point & Click - and I realized I never posted them, so uhhh, art and explanations under the cut
These 13 cards were made over the course of 2 weeks, using all my free time (and half a week off of college due to a snowstorm). They were all handmade issuing 5 colors of alcohol markers, black ink, white-out, a handful of colored pencils, washi-tape and foil star stickers. They are one of the most intense labors of love I've ever made
The Gods of PAC
The Fates
In order they are The Weaver, The Watcher and The Fury - made as a study of of Alexander Rothaug's The Three Fates from 1910
Known collectively as The Grey Ladies, if they have try names beyond their titles they are not known
The Weaver, Fate of the Past
- Keeper of all that was, creator of destinies
- Appears ancient
The Watcher, Fate of the Present
- known as the Oracle, the speaker of the Fates
- Keeper of all that is, measurer of destinies
- Appears neither young nor old
The Fury, Fate of the Future
- Keeper of all that will be, reaper of destinies
- appears youthful
Life & Death
Twin Gods created by The Fates
Life is inspired by art of Mother Mary and Death by aerial photography of graveyards
- Always hidden behind a burst of light, looks all at once young and ancient
- Known for their cruelty and apathy in the face of the tragedy wrought by the beings they create
- Perhaps they weren't always this way but eons of lording over the matters of their domain has left them a shell of what they once were - jealous that their twin gets to keep their creations for all of eternity
Erebus, Deity of Death
- Domain over Death, Change, New Beginnings, Endings, Burial, Abandoned Children/Foundlings, Mourning
- Appears as how ever the person beholding them pictures Death - from a kind death in white leaning down to kiss the forehead of a sick child, to a walking corpse come to drag a man to hell
- Known for showing kindness to those brought before them too early, and to those that stumble into their domain
- Steady in their knowledge that all of their twin's creations will join them in the end, and thusly isn't fussed about how long it may take
Time
Born of the wishes of the twin gods, who longed for purpose
Sylas, God of Time
- Domain over Time, Commerce, Wealth, Longing, Harvest, Folly, The Unwell
- Appears as a wise man of power, often seated upon an iron throne
- Has fallen for many a mortal in his eons of existence. . The children born of these pairings are marked by The Fates for unraveling, ostensibly due to the fact that longtime exposure to these children of time drive their mortal parent mad. Unraveling, however, is a fate worse than death in which their very souls are destroyed piece by piece ensuring their partially immortal souls are erased from existence
- His youngest son, a powerful young magician known as The Jackal was recently handed down this fate
