Sleepwalker

“I love this song!”
“Oh yeah?” Treekat hummed softly, looking up from the phone where he was flipping through Runa’s playlist.
“Yeah!” The girl’s messy, curly blonde hair bounced around her pale face as she laughed. She stood, the sleeves to her god-tier dress too big as always, her mary-jane shoes softly hitting the ground as she bounced to the music.
Cute.
“I would hope so. It’s on your phone.” “Its a sweet song. Listen!”
Treekat nodded, letting his head fall back softly against the wood. Runa hummed along to the music softly.
...A million miles could not divide my heart from yours and yours from mine, When the waves get taller, the stars get stronger, If we ever get lost we’ll find a way, Find a way, There’s not a road that I woudn’t wander…
“Up all night!” Runa laughed along with the song, and Treekat let himself chuckle softly with her.
“Arbre-chat!” “Runa!” He laughed, opening his eyes just in time to witness as she took his hands.
She wasn’t very physically strong, of course, so she couldn’t exactly pull him up. Treekat doubted that she would even if she could-- she was always so careful to keep him happy with her.
Silly girl. She didn’t need to try so hard. The trollian boy liked her plenty, and he doubted there was anything she could ever do to change that.
The ghost stood up for her anyway, and she practically beamed, bouncing softly, her dress swishing around her knees.
“Dance with me!” She whispered, holding his hands. “Runa, I--”
The human girl did a cute little spin, her dress flaring, laughing gleefully. Treekat couldn’t help the small smile that fell across his lips.
“Runa, I can’t really dance.” “Everyone can dance,” She protested cutely, batting her eyelashes over blank eyes, at an obvious attempt at convincing him. It was working, just a little, “It doesn’t have to be well.”
“I would look silly compared to you!” She blinked, obviously a little surprised by the compliment. Then a smile came over her face and giggles bubbled up from behind her lips.
“You’re trying to get out of dancing by flattering me and its not gonna work.”
He offered a crooked grin, and she stuck her tongue out in response.
She kept dancing, spinning happily and swinging her hips cutely. Her curly blonde hair only came down to about her shoulders, a little below, and it bounced relentlessly while she danced around his forest. The trees chittered about her-- she couldn’t hear, of course. Just little comments about the ghost girl that Treekat had managed to grow so fond of.
How she was careful not to stomp on their roots when she danced and how she was always so gentle when climbing their limbs. How she recognized always that they were living things, his trees, and sometimes asked him how they were feeling.
Something changed. The troll blinked.
“Hey!” He laughed. “You weren’t dancing!” She returned, her face bright and happy, the phone used to commit the recent crime still in her hand, “I’ll keep replaying it until you dance with me!”
Letting out a dramatic sigh, he pretended to be very upset by this, giving her a little look-- do I have to?
The girl was not a very intimidating one, but she stood with her hands on her hips, the sleeves too big so they pooled around her wrists, and she nodded insistently.
Treekat chuckled as she started to dance again, and slowly let himself fall into step with her.

Runa adjusted her earbud, blaring a Fall Out Boy song as she worked. She’d been working for hours, as she’d finally made the decision to do this.
If you had no memory, were you really still you? Did you really have to stay on the same path as you were on? Could you just start over, be someone new?
She was about to find out, she supposed.
Maybe deep down somewhere she knew this would be a bad idea. Even if it did work, Ella wouldn’t let her run off. And how would she even know to run off? If she had no memory? Maybe she could leave a note to herself.
But... if Treekat found her.
A small, innocent shell of herself with no memory of him. Vulnerable, lost.
He’d hurt her enough. He was the reason in its entirety that she was doing this in the first place. She added the next ingredient to the mixture and the cauldron bursted green. It was working.
There’s not a road that I wouldn’t wander…
Runa froze. She hadn’t noticed the start of the song when it first came on, caught up in thought. Gripping the bottles of magic potion, face gone absolutely pale, she froze.
Just froze.
Up all night, Won’t go to sleep without you by my side, I turn the light on, And I see a trace of my pillowtalker, Without you I’m just a sleepwalker...
The ghost girl promptly shut the music off.
She’d had enough for a day.
