This is a police sketch of The Original Nightstalker or East Side Rapist. Not much is known about this person because he was never caught. It is believed he was responsible for over 50 rape cases and at least 12 murders. We know that he would call certain victims before attacking. The span of his murders was from 1976 until 1986.

I am the East Side Rapist, and I feel the urge coming on to do this again. I don't want to do it, but then I do. Is there anyone there that can help me? I don't want to hurt these women or their husbands anymore.

After searching for more than 40 years, authorities say an #excop is the #GoldenStateKiller DeAngelo is a former #Auburn, #California, #police officer who was fired in 1979 for #shoplifting a can of dog repellent and a hammer from a drugstore, according to Jones. He worked as a police officer in #Exeter and Auburn between 1973 and 1979. "Very possibly he was committing these crimes while he was employed as a peace officer," Jones said. The suspect was also known as the "#EastAreaRapist" and "the #OriginalNightStalker." It's been more than 40 years since his first recorded attacks, which began in and around #Sacramento in #NorthernCalifornia. No suspects were caught or even identified in the case. Had the honor today to attend @balvenieboy’s talk with Robin Young of @npr about his brilliant first wife, Michelle McNamara, and her posthumously-published book recounting her dogged search for the #GoldenStateKiller, also known as EAR/ONS (East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker). Her writing on true crime has such humanity and eloquence, and anyone who loves @myfavoritemurder would be blown away by this book. Those who read Michelle’s True Crime Diary blog before her untimely passing know her empathy and eagle eye for detail. Her biggest hope for this book was to make this long-cold case gain increased public interest and that finally this killer will be flushed out. All it takes sometimes is for a long-forgotten detail to resurface, or for information to reach the right set of eyes. Patton supplied the afterword for Michelle’s book, which I was excited to see was also signed by him. The reverence and love with which he speaks of her is so lovely.
