I’ve had these characters bouncing around in my head for over a decade, and I’m so immensely happy I finally got the chance to turn them into a 3-minute short. 12-year-old me would be ecstatic.
This isn’t the end of them either. I’m planning to turn them into a web series. I’ve been tirelessly developing the world and story for the last couple of years, so you’ll be seeing them a lot more very soon :))
If you’re wondering about why their mouths don't move, it was an artistic decision I made because the workload with the time crunch would have been too much for me to do, so I had to simplify where I could.

This is one of my new(ish?) babies I got named Zhaleh! She's a cliffwing (a closed species) and icewing hybrid, one of the rarest hybrids for cliffwings. Design isnt mine, this is a slight redesign/new reference for her. My little jewelry lover <3 2nd image is just some examples of what jewelry she would wear!

It's set in a.. the best way I can explain it is a modern version of medieval times. Like the clothing and buildings and such are medieval-ish themed, but stuff now, like Lgbtq stuff is normal there, and speech is normal- or- not normal, but not how medieval people talked lolz
I'm still working on this part, but Niko somehow found Selkie, and Selkie kinda just stuck to Niko's side /silly
When I first made Selkie I had the idea that Selkie was banished from its siren pack, but I'm not sure how to incorporate that into lore, or even why they'd be banished, but you can just be aware of that piece of info :3
Fun fact: in this universe, sirens have no gender! Why? Idinno /silly

AS I SAID THAT I JUST GOT AN IDEA FOR LORE
so instead of mythology-accurate sirens having tails, what if...... Sirens in this universe have human legs, but they have fins and stuff instead, plus strong swimming muscles 🤔 because if you look at Selkie's design, it has blue fin-frill thing behind them, plus in that design it has little fins on their head
Hmm's. Something to think about later to brainstorm on, giggles.

Okay okay so
Niko comes from a long line of siren hunters, his family being the most famous siren hunters. Siren hunting is a high-risk but high-reward way of making money. High-risk because sirens can very easily kill someone, with sharp claw-nails.
Niko obviously has a lot resting on his shoulders as a son of a famous family like his, even though he isn't even the oldest kid in his family.
That's right!
He has an older sister, Mara (cis female, she/her, 26), but I'm also thinking of giving him more siblings, either another older sibling or a younger one.

Mara had a fiance, (who I don't have much lore made for, so much as a name, but she used to have a very kind and gentle personality), who was also a siren hunter in training (under Mara). Although, a siren had k#lled her by clawing her when she caught it.
I have a problem giving OCs trauma- ANyWAy- after that, Mara became much more reserved with obvious trauma and survivor guilt, and protective of Niko. (And younger siblings if I decide that is a part)
I wonder how Mara would react if... Let's say.... Niko became friends with a siren..... 🤔 *Evil giggling*
SILLY FACT/LORE TIME!!! (Pretty much stuff that I wanna share but don't know where to put)
Don't tell anyone (/silly), but...... Niko likes to secretly collect rocks...... :3
Selkie is a minor/mild kleptomaniac, and so, one day it was sneaking around and accidentally found Niko's rock collection
Selkie can sleep basically anywhere (it baffles Niko on many occasions)
Selkie, being a siren that can't hide shit about themselves, obviously, gets a lot of attention which it LOVES. Though Niko does not.... :'3 that attention can also come from many other siren hunters. Imagine getting into a fight with a 5'8 (which is considered SMALL, since sirens are evolved to be large in height and muscle/and or strength to swim better) siren, and the son of the most prestigious family of siren hunters pulls up to the fight /silly. Because of the reputation, the fights can end in either just talking, or Niko having to punch someone.
Selkie has bad eyesight giggles. (I honestly just had the idea that it could be because siren's eyes evolved to be better under deep-sea pressure- count that as canon now, mhm) - Niko learned that very quickly and early on meeting Selkie, as it had horrible depth perception, running into Niko and other things a lot.
Despite being the son of a large line of siren hunters, Niko is actually easily nervous and anxious, hating every time he's forced by his parents to attend a party at least once a month.
Honestly, going back to the idea that Selkie was banished by its pack, a reason that happened could be because they're so much smaller than the average siren 🤔 and like...... It's seen as "weird" to be smaller than that? Maybe like how animals might leave their young if they think they won't survive (???? No idea if that's right, I just think I heard something like that). So maybe that could be a good reason.
Sirens have a different language than humans, so Selkie isn't even its real name /silly. Selkie was just a name that Niko gave them and it likes it also.
If you're wondering "so does that Selkie had no idea on the English language? At first?" Not exactly- Selkie had a decent knowledge on English for a siren, but it does have some silly different names for words and concepts /silly. (I honestly just came up with that on the spot and said "I like that", so let's pretend I listed some of said words /silly).
I think I threw enough lore and rambles at y'all for now /silly. And I think if I don't post it, I'll keep reading it over and feel like it's never finished and could add more to it

Being a showman is just a persona he made after Ortensia's death. Oona, Odessa, and Onnie are the only ones that know about this.
He loves hunting down cruel/toxic ex-bosses of his employees. It's a stress reliever, no death, just fear. (Nobody but Odessa knows)
His magic is not from the celestials, Othello has a good understanding of toon physics/laws and knows how to manipulate it (appears like magic, likes breaking the fourth wall)
Odessa:
She sees herself in Odyssey constantly and often gives him artifacts she finds in the Underworld.
Although she has bad basic people skills, she can quickly turn any situation in her favor (lawyer skills). She can't make friends RIP
During her free time, she likes to find any reports on toxic workplaces and bring them down legally.
Her marriage was not out of love but a common goal of bringing down the corrupted STARs. She married a soon-to-be boss gangster. She’s their law consultant
Osane:
One time, her and Oregano disappeared for weeks exploring caves and tunnels. Othello found them and grounded him for a week.
She is very loud and her choice of words would make any sailor proud.
She strongly believes in safety first, although not a worrier, she likes educating the adventure group about first aid and PPE.
Odanda:
She is the runt of the decuplets and was born so sick that everybody was worried she wouldn't survive. She was constantly babied and she hates it. That is why her favorite sibling is Oregano.
Being on the verge of death has given her the ability to sense a toon's soul. She mourned her mother before her death.
She has gone adventuring on her own with the help of her little spirits friends. She so happened to end up meeting two random porcelain men. They were kind to her.
Bonus…
Monroe: wanted to quit the circus life but saw how good Othello treated Cozette and had the idea to join him. Lowkey has a crush on Oona. Has the meanest resting b-face but they're actually pretty oblivious at times. They think Onnie seems weird and wonders why he hasn't asked about Cozette to them
Cozette: both her and Monroe were raised in a circus. Because of her big build, she was often bullied. Onnie was her first “love at first sight.” Although soft spoken, she can have a real mean tone when others mess with her friends. She doesn't like flowers, she's kinda allergic.
