Every human being grows up obeying a system of permissions... That are parents in your head . This reframes “parents” as a predictive regulatory structure, an internalized authority that manages approval, belonging, and survival.

Developmentally, it emerges through social conditioning. The child learns to equate approval with safety and punishment with threat.

Neurobiologically, this translates into top-down modulation by the prefrontal cortex over limbic impulses, forming an internal feedback loop that keeps behavior socially compliant. “Who are the parents in your head?” becomes, in structural terms: “Who operates your predictive model of safety?” The insight here is that what we call identity is partly the residual pattern of this authority loop.

Recognize the “parents” as a neural heuristic, not a metaphysical oppressor. Its function is adaptive, not moral. The disillusionment step is to see through its necessity without denying its utility.
