Some Mother’s day art featuring Maeve, with some spoilers for the ending of her route.

Tbh while Órlaith is entitled & selfish like many of the other nobles of the Seelie court, I still feel bad for the Dowager Queen’s situation. She lost everyone she ever cared about due to the war. King Anraí was a terrible ruler, but that brief glimpse of Órlaith crying in the throne room hints she genuinely loved & greived him, so maybe he was a better husband than he was a king?🤔

She missed seeing her daughter grow up due to the war, not sure if Órlaith spent much time with her daughter, considering IRL royals had nannies & staff do most of the child rearing, but I like to think she at least tried to be with baby Scáthach enough to hear her first words.Considering Maeve barely remembers her parents, she was probably pretty young when she was sent to Dúntúlán, around pre-school age. Yet at the end of the Maeve’s story route, she still recognized her mother even after so long apart.😭

Does make things a bit awkward for folks romancing Maeve to know their potential mother-in-law already can’t stand them. 😥Órlaith already considers “Daonna” rude/useless, depending on how the player treated her during their investigation. Then to find out the Seelie Court Druid isn’t even the real one, just a poor tenant farmer from Ireland, who is also courting her only daughter?!

Poppy's mom is an oc that has lived in my head even longer than Poppy has and yet I've only drawn her like twice. I'm sorry Orlaith you deserve so much better

The thing about erinir is that he genuinely does love and respect his wife. The problem is that that love is barely platonic because he's gay as hell and refuses to admit it so he's just making himself have the worst time of his life. Orlaith is desperately in love with him despite everything, cause he's beautiful and intelligent and genuinely did his best to give her a good life before his neuroses got to him. And also her standards are in hell because she's the youngest of 12 and desperately clinging to any chance to not be stuck being the runt of the litter like she had been her whole life prior. Erinir elevated her social standing significantly because despite her not being able to do magic herself, her now husband was a sage, which skyrocketed her political importance and let her thrive at court. Because she too is incredibly intelligent but unlike erinir she is also incredibly empathetic, and she spent her newfound influence trying to improve things for everyone

I got completely off topic. What I was going to say is that the reason erinir's life blew up is entirely his own goddamn fault because he's too proud and a fucking conservative. Despite insisting that he fought for everything he ever created, he's still noble-born and did not lack for anything in his life aside from a traditional family structure (eugenics + knowing who he's going to marry before even being born). He's not even homophobic he just hates himself specifically and takes it out on val instead. HE HAS TWO FATHERS FOR FUCK'S SAKE

“No wonder you were so good at fixing up my ankle.” Having a fake name wasn’t the wildest thing Dawn had ever heard of. Especially on this island, and given her public status. But it wasn’t something she did often. More so when ordering from a cafe, or when she didn’t want to talk to someone in a bar. Even then it was likely she gave them Ada, because she would forget otherwise. “Neither,” she explained, putting her hands back and resting most of her weight on it. Even sitting it was hard to stay upright. “Ada’s a family name, so I’ve always gone by Dawn.”

As Orlaith prepared to check her over, Dawn pulled her blood matted hair over her shoulder, giving clear access to the wound. “I was out for dinner,” the terrible date had practically been forgotten, “Walking back to my car. This woman – she – I haven’t seen anyone like that before.” Dawn was struggling to recollect what happened next. “It doesn’t hurt much, I’m just really dizzy.”

Birdie was surprisingly full of energy that morning, rising early and passing through the markets on her way to the hospital. Which, typically, meant she was now sitting here at lunch with way too many treats for one person to consume before they went stale. Luckily though, it was the break room, and it wasn’t long until someone else entered. “Orlaith!” She called, waving the bag in her direction.
