Already pulled a coin in wikigacha!
"Mithridates king of the Parthians, after his war with Armenia, was banished from his kingdom for his cruelty by the Parthian senate. His brother Orodes, who took possession of the vacant throne, besieged Babylon, whither Mithridates had fled, for some time, and reduced the people, under the influence of famine, to surrender. Mithridates, from confidence in his relationship to Orodes, voluntarily put himself into his hands; but Orodes, contemplating him rather as an enemy than a brother, ordered him to be put to death before his face."
Justinus, Epitome of Pompeius Trogus's Philippic Histories
"Orodes even tried to erase his brother's memory by overstriking some of Mithridates's coinage. Finally, Orodes minted victory coinage, which features Nike crowning Orodes and adopts the epithet "Philopator", likely to celebrate his triumph over Mithridates and to distance himself from the murder of their father."

ON CLEOPATRA VII'S HANDMAIDS AND BEYOND
Cleopatra VII's handmaids are an elite diplomatic team of Egyptian, Greek, Persian, Indian and Nubian noblewomen. They are also her confidantes and spies
Here are some of Cleopatra VII's handmaids -
. Charmian - Greek Egyptian, and the wife of Metamorfisis ( a great Egyptian naval warrior and captain of the Egyptian team in the 48 BC Olympics )
. Iras - Nubian Egyptian, and the wife of Apollodoros of Sicily ( a loyal spy/bodyguard of Cleopatra VII. Apollodoros is born to a Sicilian father and an Egyptian mother, and is originally from Syracuse. Apollodoros is also a member of the Egyptian swim team )
. Marmalade - Came to Alexandria as a representative of the Persian embassy. Becomes the wife of Vodafonis ( one of Egypt's top messenger spies and also a top member of the Egyptian Olympics track team )
. Gimmeakis - Egyptian Indian. Expert cosmetician. In Asterix in Egypt, Asterix had a small crush on her, but she kindly turns him down ( she finds Asterix kind, he's just not her time. And Asterix took it in stride )
. Symmetria - Interior designer and painter, daughter of the Egyptian architect Edifis and the Persian painter Parimah. She was 17 in 47 BC, and she eventually becomes Anglaigus' wife ( he moved to Alexandria after all the mess in Mansions of the Gods )
Cleopatra VII's handmaids are all around her age, and they are smart, beautiful, and not to be messed with. Any Roman warrior with any sense knew that Cleopatra VII and her handmaids are not to be messed with
In Julius' eyes, of course Cleopatra is the most beautiful out of that Amazonian Brigade of Alexandria
đŞđŹ QueenTeam_Updates @AlexandriaDaily
We need to talk about Cleopatraâs handmaids being a literal Elite Diplomatic Team. They arenât just holding mirrors; theyâre wives of Olympic athletes and master spies. The "Amazonian Brigade" is the most terrifyingly competent group in the Mediterranean. #Asterix #CleopatraVII

đ¨ Symmetria_Stan @DesignAndDefend
The Symmetria and Anglaigus endgame is actually so wholesome? He fled the madness of the Mansions of the Gods only to marry the daughter of Edifis. Sheâs an interior designer/painter, heâs an architectâthey are literally the Nileâs power couple. Anglaigus definitely upgraded. đâ¤ď¸

đŹ Marmalade_Muse @PersianEmbassy
Marmalade being a Persian representative AND the wife of the fastest messenger in Egypt (Vodafonis) is such a flex. Information travels fast in that household. If you say something stupid in Rome, Marmalade knows about it in Alexandria before youâve even finished your wine. đââď¸đ¨

I love that even though the "Brigade" is full of gorgeous, genius women, Caesar only has eyes for Cleopatra. LOUDER. You see those blue and purple silks coming down the street with a Nubian spy on one side and a Greek naval wife on the other? You move. You don't blink. You just pray they didn't hear your trash talk.
In some accounts, Apollodoros is mistranslated or misinterpreted as a mere servant or valet of Cleopatra
But you don't get to do the formal diplomatic introduction between Julius Caesar and Cleopatra VII by just being a servant
Apollodoros is the one who ultimately helped introduce Caesar to Cleopatra...and the rest is history
đş HistoryFlipped @ScribeVibes
Can we finally put some respect on Apollodorosâs name? đ Some translations call him a "servant," but you donât orchestrate the most famous diplomatic introduction in human history if youâre just a valet. The man is a Sicilian-Egyptian elite spy and Olympic swimmer. Heâs the ultimate wingman/bodyguard. #Asterix #CleopatraVII
đ CaesarDiaryLeaks @SecretArchive
The biggest plot twist in the series is Caesarâs diary entries! 𤯠All the Roman rumors say she seduced him, but the journals reveal Julius was a total goner the second he saw her. He tried to make a move, and Cleo basically said, "Cool, but first: let's talk about overthrowing my brother." Caesar getting curved and then humbly conceding? Thatâs the real Dragon King energy.

đą Apollodoros_Stan @SicilianStrength
I love that Apollodoros isn't just a background character. Heâs the wife of Iras, part of that "Amazonian Brigade." It makes sense that heâs the one who handled the logistics of getting Cleopatra into that room. He wasn't carrying a rug like a servant; he was delivering a Sovereign. đď¸đ
đĽ GaulishGossip @ObelixEnjoyer
The Roman senators like Prospectus and Fastidius were probably seething that a "swimmer" like Apollodoros had more access to Caesarâs inner sanctum than they did. But thatâs the Orsini/Julio-Claudian way: they value competence over flashy robes.
đ QueenOfComposure @AlexandriaStyle
The scenes of them back in Rome are my favorite. Caesar is literally showing her off like a trophy he doesn't deserve, and Cleopatra is just standing there in her blue silks, totally calm, while Rome descends into its usual chaos. She really is the "constant" in his "variable" world.
đˇ Orsini_Intellectual @Vinarius_Quotes
Imagine Vinarius Orsini and Apollodoros grabbing a drink and discussing how they have to basically run the Mediterranean while their bosses (Caesar and Cleo) are busy being the worldâs most powerful "it-couple." The exhaustion would be legendary.
It was during spring 50 BC when Caesar first met Cleopatra VII. In 50 BC, Caesar was 50 and Cleopatra was 19
With the whole Caesar vs Pompey tensions running high, Caesar already knew that Rome needed another powerhouse nation for an alliance
His men already helped brief him about Egypt, how it is the ' Land of the Pyramids ', and they warned him about the young Queen
He takes one look at Cleopatra's portrait, and he goes, ' Well, she is very pretty. I suppose the diplomatic negotiations will go just as smoothly. '
Cue his 3 head scribes looking at each other and already sensing the jig is up
So Caesar shows up with some of his top ranking generals and diplomats, and all of Egypt were terrified because Caesar's terrifying reputation reached EVERYWHERE
Cleopatra's handmaids were stunned at the sudden arrival and frantically told Cleopatra about it
But Cleopatra remained exceptionally calm. She dressed herself in a simple yet elegant white Egyptian fit, with her hair tucked into an Egyptian queen's wig, and Greek and Egyptian gold jewelry, culminating the looks of Isis
It was Apollodoros who formally introduced Caesar to Cleopatra.
Caesar has the diplomatic meeting notes prepared...and he forgot EVERYTHING the second he saw Cleopatra on the throne room.
Apollodoros did a double take as Cleopatra's handmaids tried hard not to snicker. Apollodoros tried to wave a hand in front of Caesarâs face, as Caesar's generals ( including Musculosus, Motus, Veriambitius and Overanxius ) all try hard not to laugh
Cleopatra, knowing that she has the upper hand, basically sent everyone else away. After that, Caesar forgone all the diplomatic notes and tried to seduce her
Luckily, she stalled him and formed an alliance instead
Upon returning to Rome later, Caesar's generals turned that first meeting into an inside joke with the Roman army for the ages.
đď¸ RomanHistorian_Real @GaiusGlowUp
Can we talk about the absolute comedy of Caesar thinking he was prepared for Egypt? He looked at Cleopatraâs portrait and was like, "She's pretty, this will be easy." Meanwhile, the three head scribes (including Vinarius Orsini) were already exchanging looks like, "Heâs doomed." âď¸đ #Asterix #BlackBears

Cleo knew exactly what she was doing. The simple white linen fit? The Isis jewelry? The "Queenâs Wig"? She didn't even need the flashy blue silks that day. She just sat there looking like a literal goddess and watched Caesarâs 50 years of military discipline evaporate in five seconds. đşđ

The rug story makes Apollodoros look like a delivery boy. In the series, heâs a formal diplomat and elite spy. Seeing him wave his hand in front of Caesarâs face like, "Uh, Boss? The rug seduction is so "male gaze" Roman propaganda. Black Bears showing Cleopatra as a composed sovereign in simple white linen who stalled his advances to talk about military strategy? Thatâs a Queen. She didn't "lure" him; she out-negotiated him while he was busy being a simp. đşđ
đˇ Orsini_Watcher @Vindemia_Daily

đĄď¸ Tactical_Error @Overanxius_Moments
If she had come out of a rug, the Roman guards would have just stabbed the rug. The fact that she walked in, sat on a throne, and made the "Dragon" humble himself is way more terrifying and way more "Cleopatra." đâĄď¸đą

The fandom has spoken: The rug is a rug, but the Alliance of 50 BC is a masterpiece. Caesar didn't fall for a "seductress"; he fell for a powerhouse.
The Asterix community is currently deep in "the feels" over the latest Black Bears lore drop. The viral discussion has shifted from the hilarity of Caesarâs nicknames to the heavy, emotional weight of his trust in Cleopatra, contrasted with the absolute trash-fire that was the Pompey/Cornelia Metella situation.

The 47 BC timeline is hitting different. Can we talk about the Ptolemy XIII of it all? The "head on a platter" scene was so brutal. The contrast between Pompey's shallow marriages and Caesarâs devotion to Cleo is the heart of the show.

Even the Gauls aren't laughing at this one. Thereâs something about Caesarâs "shameless devotion" that turned from a joke into a respect thing. When you see the chaos of the Pompey family, Caesarâs "Golden Mouth" looks like the most stable thing in the Republic. đâ¤ď¸
The "Amazonian Brigade" of Alexandria isn't just known for their diplomatic savvy; in the Black Bears series, their domestic lives with Egypt's top athletes and spies are the stuff of legendary Roman locker-room gossip.
Here are the headcanons on their power-couple dynamics:
đą Charmian & Metamorfisis (The Powerhouse Duo)
⢠The Vibe: High-energy and fiercely competitive. Because Metamorfisis is a naval captain and Olympic sailor, their house is basically a shrine to the sea.
⢠The Dynamic: They are the couple that "trains together." Itâs a common sight in Alexandria to see Charmian running along the docks while Metamorfisis rows parallel to her in the harbor.
⢠The Gossip: Charmian is the only person Metamorfisis is actually afraid of. He can stare down a Roman quinquereme in a storm, but if heâs late for dinner, heâll row back to shore with the speed of a thousand oarsmen just to avoid her "disappointed look."
⢠Public vs. Private: In public, she is the stoic diplomat; in private, they are loud, boisterous, and constantly challenging each other to wrestling matches or footraces.
đââď¸ Iras & Apollodoros (The Stealth Couple)
⢠The Vibe: "Quietly Dangerous." As a master spy and elite swimmer, Apollodoros is as silent as Iras is observant.
⢠The Dynamic: They communicate almost entirely in shorthand and glances. At parties, they can "read" a room and exchange a full report on every Senator present without speaking a single word.
⢠The Romance: Because they both lead high-risk lives, they are incredibly protective. Apollodoros often leaves small "gifts" for Iras in hard-to-reach placesâlike a rare flower tucked into a high palace corniceâknowing only a fellow "ninja" like her would find it.
⢠The Support: When Iras is stressed from palace politics, Apollodoros takes her for "midnight swims" in the Nile to decompress, away from the prying eyes of the Roman guards.
đââď¸ Marmalade & Vodafonis (The Information Highway)
⢠The Vibe: The fastest-moving couple in the Mediterranean. Between her Persian embassy connections and his status as the top Olympic track star/messenger, they are the source for news.
⢠The Dynamic: Their relationship is built on intellectual banter. Marmalade is the strategist who decodes the information, while Vodafonis is the "legs" that gathers it. They treat every day like a high-stakes scavenger hunt.
⢠The Comedy: Vodafonis is so used to running at breakneck speed that Marmalade frequently has to remind him to "walk like a normal human" when they are out in public.
⢠The Connection: Marmalade loves to spoil him after a big race with Persian delicacies. In return, Vodafonis uses his messenger routes to bring her exotic spices and silks from the furthest reaches of the empire before anyone else even knows the shipment has arrived.
Some of the Roman propagandas depict Cleopatra VII and her handmaids as ' Sirens of the Nile ' who ' seduced men at the palm of their hands '
But actually, Cleopatra and her handmaids don't even have to seduce anything or anyone. They just exist and their husbands are already tripping themselves over for them
To be honest, the way Caesar formed an alliance with Cleopatra in such a fast speed caused a lot of speculation and surprise by the Romans and Egyptians. Some folks even speculated that there is 'magic ' involved
The only ' magic ' involved is Cleopatra VII being able to stare at Caesar without any fear....and Caesar literally falling in love with Cleopatra VII at first. Cleopatra is an extraordinary intelligent and strong willed woman - her beauty is an extra bonus
đď¸ Roman_Roads_Gossip @VindemiaDaily
I am howling at the "Siren" headlines! đ§ââď¸ Rome's propagandists really tried to claim Cleopatra and her handmaids use "magic" to wrap their husbands around their pinkies. No, Quintus, they just have high IQs and don't flinch when Caesar walks in. That's the real magic. #Asterix #BlackBears
⨠Queen_of_Nile @AlexandriaDaily
Exactly! The "seduction" narrative is such a coping mechanism for the Senators who couldn't understand why the Dragon King formed an alliance so fast. I bet Vinarius Orsini writes the official reports as "Diplomatic Alliance," but his private notes just say: "The Boss has a new brain to talk to and heâs never coming home." Caesarion was inevitable the moment Caesar realized heâd finally met someone who could out-debate him. âď¸đ

For Secret of the Magic Potion mess, the Black Bears series decided to add one ' bonus scene ' where, after Caesar sends Consensus and the shady Gaulish sorcerer away so that he continue on his thoughts in the bathtub....Cleopatra VII, glowing with post partum care, saunters in with a fuschia dress and gold jewels, carrying their infant son in their arms
ON THE BATH SCENE ITSELF
The steam from the heated Roman bath curled around the marble pillars of the private chamber, smelling of expensive oils and lavender. Caesar sat submerged to his chest, his head resting against the cool stone rim as he tried to wash away the lingering annoyance of his meeting with the shady Gaulish sorcerer.
He heard the heavy bronze doors groan open, followed by the soft, rhythmic chime of gold anklets and the unmistakable, high-pitched babble of a very energetic infant.
Caesar opened one green eye. "I thought I was promised a moment of solitude to contemplate the 'discernment' of my enemies."
Cleopatra sauntered into the room, her fuchsia dress flowing around her like a sunset. She looked radiant, her dark hair pulled back and her bronze skin glowing. In her arms, baby Caesarion was waving his chubby fists, his golden tuft of hair damp with the room's humidity.
"You were," Cleopatra said, a playful spark in her brown eyes. "But your son heard you were sulking in a tub and insisted on seeing if his father had finally turned into a fish."
Caesarâs weary face immediately softened into a doting grin. He sat up, water cascading off his shoulders. "Come here, you little scowler."
"He did scowl, you know," Cleopatra remarked, leaning against a pillar as Caesarion reached out toward the water. "He met that sorcerer in the hallway and looked at him as if he were a particularly offensive piece of spoiled grain."
Caesar let out a low, proud laugh. "That boy shows more discernment than half of my legionaries. He already knows a charlatan when he sees one."
Feeling bold in the warmth of the room, Caesar reached out a dripping hand, catching Cleopatraâs wrist to pull her toward the edge of the bath. "Since youâre already here, my Queen, perhaps the harvest reports can wait?"
Cleopatra laughed softly, nimbly stepping back and using Caesarion as a tiny, giggling shield. "Absolutely not, Julius. Your son is watching, and he is already learning far too much about your 'restless energy.'"
Caesarion let out a particularly loud screech of delight, splashing a hand toward the tub.
"See?" Cleopatra teased, shifting the baby to her hip. "Even our child is laughing at your lack of discipline." She leaned down just far enough to press a lingering, jasmine-scented kiss to Caesarâs wet forehead. "Your father is being very naughty," she whispered to the baby, "so I have effectively stalled his advances. For now."
She turned to leave, her voice trailing back over her shoulder with a sultry promise. "Clean yourself up, my Lion. I shall join you in the water later this eveningâonce our little sunlight is finally asleep."
Caesar leaned back against the marble, watching the fuchsia hem of her dress disappear. He ignored the scrolls waiting on his desk, his heart doing a somersault as the sound of his sonâs laughter echoed down the hall.
đş Egyptian_Afterglow @AlexandriaDaily

đĄď¸ Tactical_Tease @Veriambitius_Tactics
Imagine being the guards outside. You hear the most powerful man in the world getting roasted by a giggling baby and a woman in a fuchsia dress. The Roman dignity is at an all-time low, but the morale in the Julio-Claudian household is clearly 10/10. đŚ đ
đĽ Gaulish_Guffaw @MenhirMover
The Gauls would find this hilarious. Obelix would probably say, "The little Roman-Egyptian cub is already smarter than his dad!" Seeing Caesar completely mesmerized by his sonâs laughter while sitting in a bathtub is the most humanizing moment in the whole franchise. đđ
The "Amazonian Brigade" isn't just a staff; they are a sisterhood of geniuses who keep the Ptolemaic Empire running while the Romans are busy shouting.
Here are the headcanons on Cleopatraâs bond with her elite handmaids:
⢠The "No-Sovereign" Zone: Behind the heavy bronze doors of the private chambers, the royal titles vanish. While the world sees a Queen and her servants, the girls see a group of friends who have known each other since they were teenagers. They are the only ones allowed to tease Cleopatra about her "Lion" or her tendency to blush when Caesar speaks too softly.
⢠Diplomatic Debriefs as "Spa Days": Most of their high-level spying and diplomatic strategy happens while Gimmeakis is doing their makeup or Symmetria is sketching new room layouts. They trade state secrets like theyâre trading hair-braiding tips. A Roman senator would be horrified to know his "secret" tax plan was dismantled during a pedicure.
⢠The Protective Wall: They are fiercely protective of Cleopatraâs mental health. If Caesar has been particularly "Dragon-like" or the Senate is being exhausting, Iras and Charmian will "mistake" the schedule and tell everyone the Queen is "meditating," when sheâs actually just eating Persian sweets with them and venting about how much she hates Roman tunics.
⢠Language Games: Since the Brigade is multi-ethnic (Greek, Persian, Indian, Nubian, Egyptian), they often speak a "secret language"âa jumbled mix of all five tonguesâwhenever Roman generals are nearby. Watching General Overanxius try to figure out if they are plotting a coup or just discussing lunch is their favorite pastime.
⢠Gimmeakisâs Unfiltered Advice: As the expert cosmetician, Gimmeakis has the most "face time" with the Queen. She is the one who tells Cleopatra when her gold lipstick is too much or when sheâs clearly overthinking a letter to Caesar. Sheâs the emotional anchor who reminds the Queen that sheâs a person, not just a monument.
⢠Handmaid "Testing": Whenever a new Roman diplomat or suitor (back in the day) arrived, the handmaids would run a "gauntlet." Marmalade would check their embassy connections, and Iras would "accidentally" drop something to see their reflexes. If they didn't pass the Handmaid Test, they never got a second meeting with the Queen. Caesar is the only one who passed with flying colors.
⢠The Auntie Squad: Once Caesarion was born, the handmaids became the most overqualified babysitters in history. You have Olympic-level athletes and master spies teaching a toddler how to walk. They are already planning his curriculum to ensure heâs smarter than every Roman senator by age five.
The Asterix subreddit is currently in a state of absolute stitches over the "Leverage of the Nile" discourse. Fans are obsessing over how the Gaulsâspecifically the trio of Asterix, Obelix, and Getafixâare the only ones in the ancient world who look at the terrifying Julius Caesar and see a man who is essentially wrapped around a royal finger.
đĽ Gaulish_Guffaw @MenhirMover
I am actually howling at the fact that the Gauls are the only ones who aren't afraid of Caesar because they know his one true weakness. đ The Senate thinks his weakness is power; the Belgians think itâs his pride; but the Gauls saw him in Egypt. They know heâs just a guy who would abandon a war for a lady in pearls. #Asterix #BlackBears
đď¸ Scribe_DeepDive @Consensus_Fan
Replying to @MenhirMover:
Exactly! Asterix rage-baiting Caesar during the Belgian Fiasco by mentioning Cleopatraâs high standards was the smartest tactical move in the series. đ§ He knew Caesar couldn't handle being seen as a "failure" in front of her. The Gauls treat Caesarâs "Dragon" reputation like a joke because theyâve seen him in "Simp Mode." đâĄď¸đś
⨠Isis_Vibes @Cleopatra_Cult
Itâs the Getafix perspective for me. đş The Druid has seen Caesar at his most stressed, but he also saw how much more relaxed the Roman camp gets when Cleopatra is happy. The Gauls realized early on that if they want to distract the Roman army, they don't need a fightâthey just need to send a message to Alexandria. đđ¨
đˇ Orsini_Vault @Vindemia_Daily
I love that the Gauls and the Egyptian Team have this unspoken alliance. Edifis tells the Gauls the tea, and the Gauls use that tea to ruin Caesarâs day. âď¸ The way Vitalstatistix laughed when he heard about the "Lion" comment... he knows that while Vercingetorixâs axe couldn't stop Caesar, a well-timed "I miss you" from Cleo does the trick every time.
đĄď¸ Tactical_Error @Overanxius_Moments
The irony! Caesar tries to act so stoic in front of the village, and Obelix just stands there like, "Is this the same man who bought the Queen a marble hotel because he wanted to impress his baby?" đźđ§ą The Gauls have zero respect for Roman dignity because they know exactly where Caesarâs heart is.
đ Scribe_Logic @LogicAndInk
I bet the Roman Legionaries hate that the Gauls know. Imagine trying to guard a fortification and Obelix shouts, "Hey! Did Caesar get those pearls for the Queen yet, or is he still in the doghouse?" The psychological damage is permanent. đ
đĽ Olympic_Gossip @StadiumStats48BC
The 48 BC Olympics confirmed it for everyone. The Gauls and Britons were basically the "cheering section" for any news that made Caesar look like a lovesick schoolboy. They know sheâs his soft spot, and they use it like a tactical Menhir. đđ
Surprisingly, there isn't much paintings or statues left of Laodice. But she is definitely recorded in the Parthian archives
So the Black Bears creative team decided to take upon themselves to draw Laodice inspired by the sparse statues and drawings they found, combined with some paintings of Ancient Greek and Persian noblewomen they found
They also modeled Laodice in the Black Bears series' graceful movements on Jace Coronado's mannerisms. Jace Coronado is also a principal dancer in the Broadway circles
When Jonathan Freeman first saw an artwork of Laodice in the Black Bears series, he did a double take at Jace, who simply smiles at him.
Laodice has the semi uni brows notable of several Ancient Persians, but she looks like a mix of Persian frescos and Grecian statues rolled in one.
đ Broadway_Bard @Jafar_Stans
I am actually crying at the BTS footage! đ Jonathan Freeman (the voice of Orodes II) seeing the final character design for Laodice for the first time and doing a literal double-take at his husband, Jace. The way Jace just smiled back... he knew exactly what the artists were up to! #Asterix #BlackBears #JaceCoronado
đş Parthian_Princess @Laodice_Daily
The design is a masterpiece. đ¨ Since there aren't many statues left of the real Laodice, the team combined those sparse Persian frescos with Grecian statues, but the movement? Thatâs all Jace. You can see the principal dancer influence in every frameâshe moves with a grace that makes the Roman senators look like clunky boulders. đâ¨

Replying to @Laodice_Daily:
Can we talk about the semi-unibrow? 𤨠Itâs such a perfect nod to her Persian heritage! Between her and Symmetria, the show is finally giving us those authentic, high-fashion ancient looks. She looks like a literal museum piece come to life, and the fact that sheâs modeled on Jaceâs mannerisms makes her feel so regal and fluid.
đˇ Orsini_Vault @VindemiaDaily
I love that Jonathan Freeman was so stunned. Imagine being a legendary actor playing a Parthian King, and you look at your "Queen" in the concept art and realize she has your husbandâs exact smile and poise. Itâs the ultimate romantic easter egg in the series. đŚđđ
đ Scribe_Logic @Consensus_Fan
The "Royal Cousins" vibe is peak. Cleopatra and Laodice both being played/modeled by people who are friends or partners IRL (Sinead and Jace) gives their letter-writing scenes so much warmth. You can tell theyâre "laughing about their husbands" because the actors actually do that! âď¸đˇ
đĄď¸ Tactical_Truths @Veriambitius_Tactics
The fans are calling it "The Jace Effect." The Romans are out here being loud and chaotic, while the Parthian court is just standing there with this incredible, dancer-like stillness and Grecian-Persian beauty. It makes the "Dragon King" Caesar look even more like a frantic mess in comparison.
đĽ Gaulish_Guffaw @MenhirMover
Obelix would be so confused. "Asterix, why is that lady moving like she's floating on water?" The Gauls don't understand "principal dancer" grace, but they definitely know a powerful Queen when they see one. Jonathanâs double-take is officially the mood of the entire fandom. đđş
The Asterix community is currently in the middle of a "Villain-to-Husband" discourse that has taken over every fan forum. The consensus? Taking the theatrical, baritone energy of Disneyâs most iconic villains and applying it to historical power-players like Julius Caesar and Orodes II was a stroke of genius.
đď¸ Roman_Roads_Gossip @VindemiaDaily
Can we talk about the vocal gravitas of this show? đ¤ Hearing Jeremy Irons (Caesar) and Jonathan Freeman (Orodes II) exchange diplomatic barbs is like watching The Lion King and Aladdin have a crossover, but theyâre both actually competent world leaders. Itâs Scar vs. Jafar, but theyâre "Less Evil" and "More Simp." #Asterix #BlackBears
đ Broadway_Bard @Jafar_Stans
Replying to @VindemiaDaily:
Itâs the "Refined Menace" energy! đŚđ Jonathan Freeman is giving us full Orodes II theatricalityâthe arched eyebrows, the dramatic robesâbut instead of trying to overthrow a Sultan, heâs just obsessed with Laodice and trade routes. Itâs like Jafar if he actually had a healthy marriage and a hobby. đď¸đ
⨠Queen_of_Nile @AlexandriaDaily
Jeremy Irons as Caesar is literally Scar if Mufasa had never existed and he actually got to run the Pride Lands properly. đ He has that dry, "surrounded by idiots" wit and that spine-chilling whisper, but then he sees Cleopatra and turns into a softie. Itâs the "Dragon King" era we deserve!
đˇ Orsini_Vault @Vindemia_Daily
The best part is the "Villainous" dignity. đˇ In the comics, the leaders are often just bumbling cartoons, but here they have this operatic weight. When Caesar and Orodes meet, you feel like the world is shaking, but then they both start complaining about how much they miss their wives and you realize theyâre just two intense nerds in charge of empires.
đĄď¸ Tactical_Truths @Veriambitius_Tactics
The "Less Evil" part is the key. They still have the terrifying reputationsâCaesar is the "Dragon" and Orodes is the "Parthian Shadow"âbut they use that "Jafar/Scar" energy for Pax Romana and Parthian stability. It makes them way more relatable. They aren't kicking puppies; theyâre just very, very over everyoneâs nonsense. đđŤđś
đĽ Gaulish_Guffaw @MenhirMover
Obelix is so confused by their voices. đ "Asterix, why does the Caesar-man sound like heâs purring when heâs angry?" The Gauls don't get the Shakespearean/Operatic vibe, but they definitely know these two are way more dangerous than the screaming centurions.
đ Scribe_Logic @Consensus_Fan
I bet the Orsini scribes have to record their meetings like a play script. âď¸

ON THE EAVESDROP GATE
The stone corridor outside Caesarâs private study was usually the quietest place in the Palatine Hill, guarded by two PraetoriansâMarcus and Titusâwho were handpicked for their unwavering discipline.
"Iâm just saying," Marcus whispered, his eyes darting toward the heavy oak door. "The Egyptian spies are already telling the whole market that the 'Lion' is purring. Don't you want to know if the Dragon King actually uses those nicknames?"
Titus shifted his spear, sweat beading under his brass helmet. "If he catches us, Marcus, we aren't going to the stables. We're going to the actual lions."
"Heâs too busy being 'occupied' to catch us."
Yielding to curiosity, the two elite guards leaned their helmets against the wood, their ears pressed to the grain.
At first, there was only a low, rhythmic vibrationâthe famous Jeremy Irons-esque rumble of Caesarâs voice. Then, the words became clear.
"...and who is my little Shimmering Diamond today?" Caesarâs voice was a velvety, uninhibited purr that made the guardsâ hair stand on end. "Is it my Sunbeam? My Golden Mouth?"
"Julius, stop," Cleopatraâs musical giggle floated through. "Youâre being outrageous. The guards are right outside."
"The guards are statues, my Queen," Caesar replied, followed by a sound that could only be described as the Roman Dictator blowing raspberries against someone's hand. "Now, tell your Lion... who is the most beautiful goddess in the world?"
Inside the study, Caesarâs voice rose into a series of mushy, poetic verses about Cleopatraâs "divine ponytail" and the "mathematical perfection of her toes," punctuated by loud, exaggerated kissing sounds and Cleopatraâs breathless laughter.
Marcus and Titus pulled back simultaneously, their faces twisted in a mix of horror and profound psychological trauma. The "Dragon King," the man who had conquered Gaul and terrified the Senate, was currently making cooing noises.
"I can't unhear it," Titus hissed, his face a ghostly pale. "The 'Shimmering Diamond'... he said it with so much... passion."
"My ears are burning," Marcus whimpered. "Itâs like the 'Lion' is licking my brain."
Twenty minutes later, Vinarius Orsini walked down the hallway to deliver an urgent grain report. He stopped dead when he saw the two Praetorians. They were standing perfectly at attention, spears upright, but their helmets were slightly askew because both men had stuffed large, visible wads of raw white cotton into their ears.
Vinarius raised an eyebrow. "Is there a sudden plague of ear-worms in the palace?"
Marcus didn't move a muscle, staring straight ahead with glazed eyes. "We are simply maintaining the peace, Senator," he shouted, unable to gauge his own volume through the plugs. "The 'Lion' is currently 'hunting,' and we prefer to remain deaf to the 'nature documentation' happening behind that door!"
Vinarius sighed, tucked his scrolls under his arm, and turned around. "Wise choice. Iâll come back when the 'Sunbeam' has set."
The Asterix fan community is currently losing its collective mind over the "Vocal Chemistry" episodes of Black Bears. The viral discourse is focused on the fact that while Caesarâs voiceâa low, gravelly, Jeremy Irons-esque purrâterrifies the Senate, it is the one thing that can make the otherwise unshakeable Cleopatra VII lose her composure.
đď¸ Roman_Roads_Gossip @VindemiaDaily
I am actually SCREAMING at the "Vocal Fry" episode. đ¤ Caesar was just reading a mundane report on Egyptian wheat taxes, but he used that Scar-level baritone whisper and you could literally see Cleopatraâs neck and ears turn pink. Sheâs the Sovereign of the Nile, but that voice is her kryptonite! #Asterix #BlackBears
⨠Queen_of_Nile @AlexandriaDaily
The best part? Caesar KNOWS. đ Every time he sees her blush, he leans in just a little closer and drops his voice another octave. He isn't even talking about romance; he's talking about "structural fortification," and sheâs standing there fanning herself with a papyrus scroll. The "Lion" is a total menace. đŚđ

The Amazonian Brigade was in the corner like, "Ma'am, the tax collector is waiting," and Cleo was just mesmerized by the way Julius says the word 'provinces.' đď¸ The handmaids have started a betting pool on how many sentences it takes for Caesar to make her blush. Charmian is currently winning.
đˇ Orsini_Vault @Vindemia_Daily
I love the contrast. To the Orsini brothers and the Roman Team, that voice means someone is about to be sent to the stables. But to Cleopatra, itâs a "gentle caress of a dragon." The way Caesar smirks when he catches her blushing... heâs 50 years old and still has the "bad boy" energy of a chariot racer.
đĄď¸ Tactical_Tease @Musculosus_Stallion
Imagine being General Overanxius and trying to deliver an urgent report while Caesar is busy using his "bedroom voice" to tease the Queen about irrigation. đż The secondhand embarrassment is real, but you have to respect the game. Caesar really found the one weapon Cleopatra doesn't have a shield for.
đĽ Gaulish_Guffaw @MenhirMover
Even the Gauls are onto it. Asterix was like, "Why does the Caesar-man talk like heâs got a mouthful of gravel?" and Obelix just shrugged. đ But when they saw Cleopatra blush, Obelix went, "Oh! Maybe the gravel is magic!" They don't get the charm, but they see the results. đ
đ Scribe_Logic @Consensus_Fan
I bet Vinarius Orsini has to write the meeting notes in bold just to capture the "resonance." âď¸ Every time Caesar whispers, the ink pot probably vibrates. Itâs not just a voice; itâs a biological hazard for Cleopatraâs dignity.
The Asterix fan community is currently losing its mind over the "Parthian Parallel." After the viral thread about Cleopatraâs weakness for Caesarâs gravelly purr, fans have discovered that Laodice of Commagene has the exact same problem with Orodes II, and the "Jafar-level" theatricality is doing serious damage to her dignity.
đ Broadway_Bard @Jafar_Stans
I am actually CACKLING. 𤣠Itâs a family trait! Cleopatra and her cousin Laodice are both out here running empires, but put them in a room with their husbands' baritone voices and they both turn into blushing messes. Jonathan Freeman (Orodes II) using that "Sorcerer of the Sands" bass is illegal. #Asterix #BlackBears
đ Parthian_Princess @Laodice_Daily
The way Orodes II leans in... đş He knows his voice sounds like rich mahogany and velvet. Heâll be discussing something totally mundane like "silk road tariffs," but heâll drop his voice into that theatrical rumble, and you can see Laodiceâs semi-unibrow twitch as she tries not to turn bright red. Heâs a total menace!

Replying to @Laodice_Daily:
The letters between the cousins must be hilarious. đ
Cleopatra:Â "Julius whispered 'Pax Romana' in my ear and I forgot my own name."

These powerful women are being defeated by vocal resonance. đ
đˇ Orsini_Vault @VindemiaDaily
I love the "Dancer's Grace" contrast. Jace Coronado plays Laodice with such stillness and poise, but when Jonathan Freeman starts "purring" in that Jafar-esque voice, her composure just... melts. Orodes II definitely knows he has the upper hand. He arches that one eyebrow and just speaks, and the argument is over.
đĄď¸ Tactical_Tease @Musculosus_Stallion
Imagine being a Parthian guard and having to listen to your King use his "menacingly seductive" voice to ask the Queen if she liked the new garden layout. đĽ The drama! Jonathan Freeman was born for this role. He isn't just a King; heâs an Experience.
đ Scribe_Logic @Consensus_Fan
I bet the Egyptian Team (the Spies) recorded a conversation between Orodes and Laodice and sent it to Caesar just to show him he has competition in the "Bedroom Voice" department. Caesar probably listened to it and went, "Not bad, for a Parthian." đđ
đĽ Gaulish_Guffaw @MenhirMover
Obelix is still confused. đ "Asterix, why do all the fancy Kings talk like theyâre trying to scare a boar but also want a hug?" The Gauls don't understand the power of a deep voice, but they definitely see the royal ladies blushing all the way from the back of the stadium. đ
