Historically, Oromo were denied belongingness to Ethiopian empire and were considered subhuman. I remember that my history teacher (Hist 101) being stood in the class and told us what he said was lore. He said, Oromo (he called us gala) came out of river, out of fire or from beneath rock. On that day I and my fellow Oromo got mad and started to ask each other how this could biologically be possible? We were young enough to understand that the “extra ordinary lecture” was part of the political calculation that the then system runs to humiliate Oromo. It was not mere lore but the segment of unparalleled historical larceny of Habesha to say Oromo is not indigenous to Oromia. By then, telling that Oromo is native to Oromia was not only a puzzle to many nations in Ethiopian empire influenced by the roguish Habesha propaganda but also telling Oromo’s nativity was considered taboo politically. However, the well-designed launch of anti-colonial defense by Oromo heroes enabled to break the taboo and opened venue for systematic historical investigation. Archeological findings and plenty library resources around the world enabled true historians to disclose the unrevealed. The then wrong assertion of Arab origin Habesha (Abyssinians) on Oromo nation became true on the contrary and hence everybody in the globe now knows that Oromo is native to Oromia. Therefore, the nativity of Oromo to Oromia is universally (including Habesha elites) endorsed. Thanks to the last 40 years or so effective struggle, that we got success one!
