Highlights of Orycon 37:
There were some really good panels this year that I haven’t been to before, including (but not limited to) Rules and Physics of Anime, the Ryan Wells cosplay GOH panel (beyond useful), and Codifying Geek (wherein I learned to write my name in Quenya and Sindarin, and that I suck at Gallifreyan). As usual, the costume contest was good, as well as Anime: Beyond the Mainstream, For the Love of Cosplay, Attention to Detail, and the Costume Exchange.
While in my Light costume, I was almost violently accosted by a spectacularly enthusiastic L cosplayer who stayed in character the entire time and declared herself to be 38.3% certain I was Kira while I denied it at great length. She brought along her own femme Light who was also quite cute.
Con hospitality kept my friend Distorria and I alive this year by providing food. We were far too broke to get hotel food, so this was greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all the panelists, attendees, vendors, and volunteers, and see you next year.
