i admit that when i saw this big stump i involuntarily thought to myself "maybe there'll be rhino beetles on it", but i didn't expect to actually find this Oryctes nasicornis casually pacing around

unfortunately despite being a large animal seemingly made of rigid plastic he was apparently flexible enough to immediately wedge himself in a crack and disappear inside the stump to get away from me. bye i guess

this rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes nasicornis) practically showed up at my doorstep as confused as me. he was pretty lethargic, but big adult beetles always act as if they've been working in the coal mines for eighty years and at the end of their rope anyway, so i thought nothing of it

he wasn't walking around much, but i left him partially hidden in some leaf litter in case he got a sudden burst of energy later and decided to get on with his life. worst case scenario, i was hiding a really big easter egg for the birds
