That voice– He couldn’t help but jump a bit at first, he’d thought it was in his head at first, though no. No it was very much outside of his conscious. It was a little startling to finally be able to see the face behind everything. After all, out of all his hazy memories, Ozpin was the clearest
“Ozpin…” He wasn’t alone, he really wasn’t…he’d seen Ruby, as well as Qrow, it was a wonder if any of the others who swam through his thoughts were here as well. It was more than likely. “….Heh…I…I guess you’re right…kinda nice to know honestly, especially in a place like this….I still haven’t quite understood how I ended up here…”
For days after the last experiment, Ozpin has been having unusual and disturbing dreams. They all centered around a farmhouse he’d never seen before, but for whatever reason felt like home. There’s flashes of working daily chores, laughter that isn’t his, and the sensations are dulled, as if experiencing touch through a heavy glove, himself but not entirely. He’s long since tried dismissing them as after effects of the scientists’ latest test, but now as he looks at a young boy and instantly knows his name without ever speaking, Oz knows they weren’t.
This is him, the next in line.
He speaks unknowingly, words he never processed in his mind but are prompted by something intangible, and Oscar startles clearly surprised to see him but not by him. He knows his name too, and responds to what he doesn’t process saying. Shame, guilt and sorrow immobilize him. Part of the headmaster wants to walk away, never acknowledge that this meeting ever happened, but it has, it’s real, and his sense of responsibility keep him in place. Kneeling down on one knee, he brings himself to eye level.
“Oscar.” The name sounds foreign on his tongue but feels natural to say. His voice wavers as he pushes on, “I... I’m sorry.”
With his death and the curse he bears, Oz’s burdened this boy the way he was so many years ago, and likely doomed him to the same fate.
“I’m so, so sorry, for everything, for all of this, and what you’ve had to endure so far. It isn’t right. It never has been.”
“I also.. have to admit that, I don’t.. remember yet, anything about our ‘meeting’ on remnant, except that I know that it happened. Regardless, I will do anything that I am able of to aid you here. What I said is true. You’re not alone, not if I can help it.”
