Midnight ramble-bear with me

I know I might look like someone who got here on planet earth only two days ago but I’ve just come across the articles and allegations, mainly on Twitter, claiming that Cate Blanchett defended Woody Allen and that she named her son after Polanski.

Now, I love Cate Blanchett, I love her work, I respect her as an artist, I truly believe she’s one of the greatest actresses of all time, but nevertheless I decided not to take the fact I believed she is also a person who exudes moral values for granted.

So I searched the world wide web for more informations regarding the issue and guys, I found NOTHING.

Not even one tiny bit of an interview where she openly defended Woody Allen, she said nothing on the matter. Actually there is in fact a quote from her following the accusations made by Allen’s stepdaughter: “It's obviously been a long and painful situation for the family, and I hope they find some resolution and peace". Still, this to me does not look like she’s defending anyone.

What people did at the time she won the Oscar for her role in Allen’s Blue Jasmine and what are now doing once again, now that Ocean’s 8 is doing great, right when she’s being recognized, not only for her job, but for the empowerment she represents, now that she’s being recognized as an icon for a community whether she’s part of that community herself or not, whether you agree with that or not, something good is happening and what people are doing is that they’trying to wipe that away.

They’re trying to cover her and her work in shit because that’s what angry people do when they’re not getting enough attention and what angers me the most is that the awaking time for these people weirdly coincides with another person’s highest point. First the oscars, now her being considered/recognized, however you wanna put it, as an icon.

And what they’re saying to back up they’re allegations is that SHE WORKED WITH ALLEN.

“People forget she worked with Allen and she won an Oscar for it”

It doesn’t even make logical sense.

As if working with someone and then become aware of who that person really is is someone’s fault. Since when? Is this how we wanna go about sexual assault issues? Blaming everyone who ever got in contact with these kind of people?? Because if we’re going down that road then we should also blame the victim who apparently worked with the person who eventually took advantage of them. Is that right? And don’t even @ me to say that the accusations regarding Woody Allen began before Blue Jasmine was released cause that’s not how these things work. We can open a whole different discussion about it tho.

FYI: Recently Cate Blanchett stated she has every interest in seeing Woddy Allen’s cases being brought in court.

Ps. Don’t even let me start about her apparently naming her son after Roman Polanski. Cause really, there’s only one interview she ever mentioned his name linked to her son and it’s CLEARLY a joke. Definitely not a tasteful one but a joke nonetheless.

Please stop ripping people apart just because they don’t respond/ react to situations the way you think they’re supposed to. There is no universal truth. No common way of dealing with things. Stop destroying other’s careers by misinterpreting on purpose any word they breath life into. It’s no good, definitely no good for the main issue which is sexual assault/ sexual abuse/ sexual harassment.

NOTE: Unfortunately I feel the need to specify that I’m not one of those who thinks we cannot believe everyone’s accusation is true, who thinks is better be doubtful, who thinks “they’re doing it for attention”. No. I really think we’re all deserving of belief. We deserve the chance to be heard. Do I believe every single allegation to be the truth? No. There are definitely some cases of people making shit up. But there are thousands out there whose stories are in fact reality and not believing, making people feel like they’re at fault, making them feel like no one’s gonna believe them is what makes this issue even graver. This is the reason the time’s up movement even exists. To give voices to people who need to be heard.
