Artist Research - Oskar Fischinger I looked over a number of Oskar's work through YouTube via external links in Google where his work was also celebrated. I took a close look at 'An Optical Poem, 1938' Upon first inspection, we are immediately greeted with very contrasting colour which really stands out against each other, the brightness and the darkness is tuned so that the red dot is the absolute focus, because looking at the blue background either hurts or does not feel right. Asides from the colours which work extremely well with the background, the shapes are also put into focus the majority of the time; are very calming. The basic shapes create a reality where we our minds can understand, where we can comprehend what is happening and relax and this is further supported by the background music which is a major factor in the emotions this piece creates as the objects in the scene moves along with the music, creating a tranquil atmosphere. These emotions are changed after the 'Poem' is intensified with a more harsher colour and increase in quantity which accelerates our emotions.
This theme which is found across his visual art pieces may be really simple, but the way Oskar executes it puts more emphasis and makes a more impactful piece where the objects moving with the music really makes the heart race and mind calm. This, in my opinion, is going to be one of my favourite artists because his pieces are easy to understand in what we see and perceive and because his visual art work really works well because of its 'complex simplicity' especially in the piece 'Studie nr 8 (excerpt)' by Oskar Fischinger.
I could utilise this concept more, complex simplicity and reshape my thought process as sometimes I think too much for my piece and try to add more weight and pressure on myself just to create something I would consider good for showing. I believe if I synchronise with the music more, I could create a much more impactful piece with a clearer and much more open mindset.
“Abstract Polonaise” A quick little abstract animation I made in 2017, in Oskar Fischinger style to Grande Polonaise by Chopin

Second test animation for Mo:zine - this one takes inspiration from the work of Oskar Fischinger, particularly ‘An Optical Poem’ which is probably my favourite work of his ( link to it here ---> https://vimeo.com/155998018 )
Jamming with the midi sketch program i wrote Your playing is being visually monitored live and if you want to paint something nice it completely dictates your style. Interesting.
