I’ll really only stream for a short while this time~
LYN: Hallo everybody, good evening. I’m Modern Brother’ Liu Yuning. Welcome~
Comment: I thought you wouldn’t be coming today.
LYN: Did we make a date out of it? I didn’t SAY I would be streaming today. I just picked a random day.
Comment: You changed the mic out.
LYN: I did, yes. We’re going to upgrade where we can, remember?
LYN: The other one wasn’t bad- it was enough for me to stream with. But these past few years I’ve... sung my fair amount of OSTs. I’ve been in Hengdian shooting for the drama lately but I went to record a song and the composer asked me what type of mic I used, and told me that a different one might suit me better. But stuck in Hengdian as I am, I only have what’s available to me. He told me to hang in there, and perhaps when I went back to Beijing I could record on a better mic. But I thought about it, and I’m going to be in Hengdian for a while longer, so I thought I’d get more professional and every time I need to go record a song I’ll bring my own mic. So I bought one online. The next time I need to record for a song I’ll bring my own mic to look more professional. I may sing just averagely but at least I’ll look professional.
LYN: I just wanted to test this mic today, to see if I can use it during my streams. Earlier someone asked me if this was a magnifying glass. What am I going to look at with a magnifying glass in front of my face? You? I’ll look through the screen and see right through to you??
Comment: I thought it was a fish tank light.
LYN: You must raise fish at your house. Is that right?
Comment: You look cooler when you’re holding the mic.
LYN: I won’t (hold it).
Comment: This mic makes your voice more magnetic.
LYN: That’s right. /makes the grudge sound/
Comment: Scared me to death.
LYN: Don’t they all say that men who make this “bubble” sound are more MANLY?
LYN: So, I bought my own mic and I can use it during my streams, too. Otherwise it would be a waste. At least in Hengdian- back in Beijing I won’t need it, all the studios have their own and I’m unwilling to bring mine. But while I’m in Hengdian I’ll use it for my recordings and during my streams. :)
Comment: I’m not used to seeing you NOT holding a mic.
LYN: If that’s the case, here- I’ll just hold it.
- doesn’t want people to be tricked, so says again that anything that advertises “making money doing voice-acting” is a scam
LYN: I’ve been in Hengdian doing the voice-acting for Zi Chuan. While I’m doing so there’s also a sound director and other voice actors there, so I asked them about it. How’s the voice-acting industry doing? They said that in the past few years there HAS been lesser work, but for the veterans in the business there’s still a lot of work they can do. So I asked them, if there are less dramas, then how do they make an income? Other than dramas, there are also dongman, and audio-books.
LYN: What I’m trying to get at is that even the veterans have a hard time finding work, do you think they’re going to pay to let an amateur come and do voice-acting?? Think about it.
- explains the scamming process: first they want you to pay for classes, then they’ll want you to buy all the proper equipment, and in the end you’re left with expenses but no work
LYN: This mic was pre-ordered but is made abroad, and because of the pandemic they said that it would take at least 6 months to get here. One of my friends owns a studio so I asked them to order it for me, and they said I wouldn’t even get it in a year. So I bought this one online... second-hand.
Comment: It could be fake.
LYN: It’s possible.
Comment: You only know second-hand goods.
LYN: What do you mean?? You think I’m not good enough for new goods? Don’t mess with me. This secondhand product is more expensive than buying the new one. [..] When I was asking about this product, and asked about the price I found out it was more expensive than a new one. It’s like buying a car, driving it around for four years, then selling it for more than you bought it for. I asked the seller why it was so expensive, and they said because you can’t get it anywhere in the country right now. :) If I didn’t take it, there would be a long line of people waiting. So I thought about it... and bought it.
- Wanted to buy a projector so that he could project cartoons or a picture on the wall behind him so the viewers could look at it; bought (an expensive) one to test it out, but though it looks good in person, it doesn’t show very well on his stream. So he wanted to return it, but it’s passed the return policy date and he wasn’t able to. Looked online and found out it’s going for 3kRMB more than he bought it for. “Good thing the seller didn’t let me return it!” XD
LYN: It’s fine- I’ll set it up in the house and watch movies or something. I don’t WANT to return it anymore. I’ll wait for it’s price to go up even more! (jokingly)
Comment: Was the cameo fun?
LYN: I went to cameo in Le You Yuan- it was quite fun. Someone asked, “Ning-ge went to cameo? He’s not SERIOUSLY planning on doing a cameo for every drama in Hengdian, is he?? I thought only 20% of what he says during his streams could be tru sted.” Because I said before I would spend half a year cameo-ing in every drama filming in Hengdian right now. Then, in 2023, I’ll have 40+ works out. You’ll see me the whole year, and not even have to wait anymore.
LYN: I won’t go to just ANY drama- It still depends on what relationship I have with the crew. Who do I think I am?? Can you guys treasure me a little bit more?
Comment: Not every crew would want you, either.
LYN: ?! Those words are a little hurtful. You don’t even think anyone would want me to cameo?
- promotes Qi-ge’s new movie, Man on the Edge
- baffled by the fact that even produce can be pre-ordered now (bc he bought some lychees that’ll arrive in June)
Comment: Lychees will make you 上火 (shànghuǒ).
LYN: When I look at you I get 上火, but I’m still looking aren’t I? There are too many things that’ll do it to you. A lychee’s not going to do me in.
Comment: You bought your fruit for too high of a price.
LYN: What day and age are we living in? There was a time when I was little, you’d have to go hang out at the school for a period of time before summer break- I forget what it’s called. 护校 (hù xiào)! That’s it. I remember very clearly, it was during the break- there was a person who sold watermelons by the school entrance. It was 4RMB/1kg. So in my mind the price of a watermelon stopped at 4RMB/1kg. Now, I rarely go out to the market to buy anything. If I want to eat something my family or staff will buy it. But I wrapped up with work a couple days ago and went to a fruit market There was a watermelon about this big /gestures/- it came out to 98RMB. I was shocked- watermelons are so expensive now??
LYN: I don’t really eat fruits, but since I was there, I saw a box of cherries- about the size of this iPhone, a little bigger. They were white cherries- I don’t know what they’re called- but I thought I would buy a box to eat. It was a pretty small box- 300+RMB! If there were 30 cherries in that box, each one would be 10RMB!! The shop owner said they were seasonal and if I didn’t get them then I wouldn’t have the chance to try them. I resolved myself. I wouldn’t get the watermelon. I wanted to find out JUST HOW GOOD those cherries were.
LYN: I rarely go to the market, but I just thought those fruits were perversely expensive.
Comment: Were they good though?
LYN: They really were. A 10RMB cherry- even if it DIDN’T taste that good, it would still be the best thing you ever ate. But it really was good.
Comment: What did they taste like?
LYN: Tasted like a cherry.
Comment: You changed you mic. This one won’t break, right?
LYN: Are you trying to curse me? I bought this new- how could it break?
- promotes the variety show “Chinese Wedding: My Daughter is Getting Married”, the same maker of Chinese Restaurant
Comment: You went?
LYN: No, but I sent a flower basket.
LYN: I heard a song the other day- it’s called “Modern Love”, and I wanted to know why they didn’t find Modern Brothers LYN to sing it for them.
Comment: Haven’t heard of it.
LYN: Let’s hear it together. We’ll test out my new mic.
LYN: Let me wear some glasses- to make me look more “modern”.
LYN: This music makes me miss my wine glass. Hold on a sec, let me go get it.
- comes back and fills his glass w/ water
LYN: Now the mood is set.
Comment: You clothes don’t match.
LYN: Should I go get a suit and tie??
LYN: Let me see, if I put a lychee in here, will it turn into a lychee drink?
- peels a lychee and plops it into his glass, takes a sip
LYN: Doesn’t taste like anything.
- His new OST for Who Rules the World just dropped “无双 (Unparalleled)”
LYN: When I got the demo for this song I really liked it- it has that gufeng and also rock elements in it. I’m sure you’ve all heard the song already. And you can check out the drama when you have the chance, too. It’s called “Who Rules the World”.
LYN: If anyone watches this drama and changes their profile pictures to YY, I’ll understand. It’s fine. I can accept it if you change your pics into my “boss”.
[t/n: “boss” bc people keep thinking LYN’s going to sign w/ YY’s agency]
LYN: I’m telling you- if you don’t keep watching my streams you’ll never know what’s going on. All of them are connected. You’ll have no idea what joke “boss” is a part of.
LYN: I think this song can really make it. :)
Comment: Talk about 共度 (Spend My Life With You) too.
LYN: 共度. Have you heard of this song, my friends? It’s hot off the currently airing “My Sassy Princess”. I’ve heard it’s very sweet.
Comment: I’ve heard enough of it.
LYN: Let me explain- this song has already been out for a while already, but the drama has only just started airing. People have been listening to it for half a year already, not that my music is annoying to listen to. Also- the person who said that, you’re so annoying. Even IF you’ve heard enough of it, don’t type that into the comments. It makes it seem like my music is something you get tired of easily. Even if you’re tired of it, you have to pretend like you’re listening to it for the first time every time you hear it.
LYN: I also sang for Glory of Special Forces, which is currently airing. So there are three dramas I’ve sung for. My fans are very busy. Usually when I sing the OSTs for a drama, my fans will always go to watch them. I may not have a lot of fans, but they sure can talk a lot (build up hype). They really will watch the drama and help me promote my music, so that a lot of other people can watch the dramas. So LYN singing OSTs is really cost-effective. :)
- going to sing Glory of Special Forces OST - 仰望晴空 (Gazing up at the Clear Sky)
LYN: Let me try it. I’m not in a very good condition- I’ve been doing voice-acting all day.
- looks up the lyrics to his own song XD
[t/n: still sounds amazing tho]
Comment: Ning-ge, you can’t pull the mic anymore.
LYN: Oh yeah, if I got to a point where I got too loud or needed to use strength I could pull the mic away, but now I can’t.
- moves his body away from the (stationary) mic instead XD
Comment: It actually sounds a bit quiet?
LYN: It’s not that it’s quiet, it’s that I’m afraid to sing too loudly. I don’t want to break this mic too, it was so expensive. ;A;
Comment: Hmph! How expensive could a telescope be??
[t/n: the fans are making fun of the look of the mic]
LYN: This isn’t a telescope, and telescopes are more expensive than this.
Comment: Now you’re speaking sound is too little.
LYN: Turn the volume up on your phone. What, are you afraid of eating your battery?
Comment: Re-connect the other mic.
LYN: It’s too complicated to switch the cords back.
Comment: “Unparalleled” is so nice!
LYN: Isn’t it? You can listen to it a few more times for me. If any of you make any videos, I hope you can use this song, too. I think it can do great. Whether it does or not is its own fate. And my fate. But I think it can become hot.
Comment: You say that every time.
LYN: !! What do you mean? You mean that I say a song will be hot every time, and every time it isn’t??
Comment: Use some reverse psychology on it.
LYN: This song sucks. No, I can’t. Because the drama is about to air. If it were my own song I could use reverse psychology, but there’s still the drama. Let’s not influence other people. I don’t dare use reverse psychology for this one. The song is nice. Listen to it more.
Comment: I feel like you’re very handsome in ALZ?
LYN: Uhm.. I’m okay. Each drama has its own requirements, and all the other actors in ALZ are very good-looking. They’re all very handsome, so if someone in there isn’t up to par, it will affect our overall visuals. So every time I went to shoot for that drama I did some beauty routines and drank coffee so that I would look less swollen and not hold the crew back. But I’m only a second male lead in that drama, so it’s more important for you guys to look at the male and female leads. I’m just there in the background, to help.
Comment: Ning-ge, I only look at second leads.
LYN: Uhm... I will also accept male lead jobs at some point... when that time comes will you stop being my fan?
Comment: I can tell that you spent the most time in hair/makeup for this drama (ALZ?).
LYN: No, I spent the most time for Floating World. Usually it’s just makeup and the wig, and that takes about 15 minutes. But for this drama I’m sitting there for 45 minutes to 1 hour. By the time I come out of it I don’t even know what happened to me.
LYN: I went to cameo in LYY- I was joking when I said I would be a beggar. I got a few scenes out of this role. But before I went I asked the jiejie what type of role it was, and she said it was very “xian” (fresh/fairylike; they both sound the same, so idk which). I asked her what number of foundation we were talking about. Now when I accept roles I don’t only look at the script, I also look at what number of foundation I’ll have to use.
LYN: She asked me what number I would like, and I said the lighter the better. She told me to rest assured- she would take care of it for me. I got to the crew and the makeup artist... she wasn’t even using foundation anymore. She used No. 1 as the base, and then took out a cream- it was like white paint for your walls. I asked her, “What- what is this?” and she replied, “It’s all been arranged- we’re to make you look paler.” I asked, “Is this okay?” and she said, “This is the world’s lightest.” Alright- I let her finish. When she was done I was so white- I almost looked blue. We adjusted it a little later, so it looked alright.
Comment: Do you have any lines with Xu Kai?
LYN: ... The two main actors of that drama are Xu Kai and Jing Tian. What else do you think I went to cameo for?? I went to act as a passerby, who has some interaction with a beggar??? What would be the meaning of that. Of course I had scenes with them (the leads).
Comment: Did you get the chance to sing the LYY OST?
LYN: Sometimes I joke around in my streams- but they are very nice, and have arranged it for me. :) I joked around in my stream that day, but my fans made a clip of it, and JT sent the clip to the producer-jiejie, and the producer-jiejie said, “Got it. We’ll take care of it.” That’s really not what I meant by saying that;;; I really did just go there to play and interact with my “idol” (JT), but they insisted, so I accepted
LYN: Please don’t think I went to cameo just because I wanted to land an OST. I’m really not that type of person. I’m usually very busy myself. I just went for my friends.
- tries to make it a business transaction between friends: as long as you introduce him to some OST work, you can take 10% of a commission fee from his payment XD
LYN: Seriously, when people introduce work to me I usually gift them something in return, but it depends on what each individual likes. Like last time, YZ came to my stream- he likes motorcycles, right ? So we went in that direction to give him something in thanks. The only thing I could think of is that sometimes it rains- so I wanted to get him some rain gear. Like for YCY... what does she like? I really don’t know. Maybe she likes... making money? In that case I’ll give her... (can’t think of anything)- in any case, you have to consider each person’s preferences.
Comment: Making money.
LYN: Everyone likes making money. How about this? I’ll give her a piggy bank.
LYN: I know this topic is over already, but BJT- people told me he likes shoes. So if I confirm that I got an OST because he asked for me, I’ll send him some shoe-cleaning solution. Something useful.
LYN: My neighbors are fighting, for real this time. This mic is so good it can even pick up the sound. See? A lot of you even typed “Just go.” before I even said anything!
LYN: Wait for me a sec. I’ll go check it out. I’ll see exactly what’s happening over there.
-- bathroom break --
LYN: They really were fighting. I had to pull them apart using the strength I’ve gained recently from lifting 2.5kg weights. I can’t explain in detail, but I did a good deed today.
- explaining his change of mic again
LYN: I’ll never let equipment interfere with my work. My camera wasn’t good, so I bought a better one. I won’t hold myself back on anything work-related; I don’t want to just muddle through. I hope you all can have this type of resolution towards your work/life as well.
- Heroes will air, probably when Who Rules the World finishes airing, bc they’re both Tencent productions; Variety show is cleared for filming in May, set to finish mid-June.
LYN: I really want to go to shoot the variety show. To me it’s not work, it’s having fun.
Comment: Do you have an OST for ALZ yet?
LYN: I don’t know. I haven’t heard anything. :(
LYN: It’s still early. It hasn’t been that long since it wrapped.
LYN: De Lin- I went to do the voice-acting for him today. Zi Chuan- there’s so much content, when we finished we had about 60 episodes worth. But it was leaked that there would be 48 episodes, so they cut it down to 48. We’ve split the 48 into two seasons of 24 episodes. I think that’s how it’ll air. Not sure.
LYN: The novel’s too big though. 48 episodes is only just half of it. If the first two seasons do well then we might get a chance to come back for a third, who knows. I hope that’s the case, though.
Comment: I hope it’s still you in the third season.
LYN: I don’t think there’s any meaning in filming a sequel without the original cast. It should be me, though. (if all goes well)
LYN: I got another OST- for Cang Lan Jue (Eternal Love/Parting of Orchid and Demon King); I don’t know if you know it. I haven’t recorded it yet, but I will in a few days. If I’m remembering correctly, it’s led by Esther Yu and Wang Hedi. There’s also going to be a dongman based on the novel- there’s a possibility I can voice one of the characters.
Comment: Will you be voicing the main character?
LYN: No, they won’t let me voice the main character... I know myself- I can’t voice male leads yet. I’ll be voicing a beggar. >.>
- Detective Plan MAY or MAY NOT be able to air on time in May. It all depends on how quickly they can get back to recording/editing. BC it’s not like they’re going to air two eps and then just- stop. We’ll have to see.
Comment: Hahaha, live broadcast.
LYN: !! You must be crazy. Then the six of us will be sitting here streaming together, holding a conference or what? How can this be live broadcast?? A live variety show, my goodness. We’ll sit here and play the Werewolf (Mafia) game?
Comment: Can you all get together for a stream?
LYN: Ah- I think there aren’t too many people like your Ning-ge, who has nothing to do but to stream all day. You know? Not very many people can be like me and not do important things. They have so much work they already can’t even finish, and you want them to come and stream too??
LYN: Also, not everyone can handle live-streaming. Everyone has their own thing. Some people might think that streaming doesn’t have a lot of meaning. They’re going to put their works first. But I like to play. I know I should do my work properly, but I also like to play. I LIKE to stream. I’m not being forced to do it. It’s just my way to relieve stress- not the bad type of stress.
LYN: /gets sentimental/ Life just gets so busy and there’s pressure all around, from work and from life. But I don’t have pressure when I stream. I can joke with my fans, I can listen to a passerby’s funny story. It’s a way for me to relax.
Comment: We’re just tools you use to vent.
LYN: You must be born in the year of the monkey. I gave you a stick and you climbed right up. I said this was a way for me to vent to be nice. You really think I have no other ways? There’s a computer right here with so many games on it!! Really... you must be a monkey.
LYN: I’ve found out that a lot of people (in the entertainment industry) watch my streams. It’s surprising, because they’re really amazing people- at least in my mind. They think it’s stress relieving or interesting. Some people will pop in to watch a little during their break time and then get back to work when they need to.
LYN: Also, word from my streams gets around fast. Wasn’t I talking about the Fox Matchmaker the other time? After I talked about it, the platform found out, then the company, then the boss. They all found out about it, and then contacted my studio. We were scared- did I say something wrong about it?? Did they think I disrespected them because I couldn’t pronounce the title correctly??
Comment: They were looking to work with you.
LYN: I found out later, CLJ is also their company’s work. The OST came for me already, so actually we’ve BEEN working together. But I really didn’t know that Fox Matchmaker was theirs too. We got to talking and they said, “It’s okay, we’re not mad. But you should sing well for CLJ.” I said, “I understand.”
Comment: Then what about the Fox Matchmaker’s OST?
LYN: I don’t know about it yet :) It’s already very early. LYY for example, hasn’t even been filming for a whole month yet and I’ve already been confirmed for the OST. Fox Matchmaker hasn’t even STARTED filming yet, and you want me to get the OST?? It’s alright. When people need me, they’ll find me.
LYN: I think whether this company finds me again or not depends on how well I do on the CLJ OST, and if we work together nicely or not. I hope it works out nicely. That’s why I bought a new mic- in the hopes that everything will go pleasantly.
Comment: Can you talk about your new drama yet?
LYN: Technically, I can- since the contract has been signed already. But I really want to know- have you heard anything online about me? Because I know you follow news about certain male or female actors- have you heard anything rumors about me? Yes? No?
LYN: No? That means no one really cares about what drama I’m in next.
LYN: /sigh/ Whatever. Maybe they can’t find the info.
Comment: Media accounts don’t dare spread nonsense about you.
Comment: (guessing his next drama) Yu Feng Xing?
LYN: No- though they did come to look for me, the timing didn’t work out. It directly conflicts with another drama. The industry is like this- for a lot of amazing actors (not including me), after their drama airs a lot of different productions will come looking for them because they fit a role in their work. They’ll contact these actors, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they will confirm these actors as part of their cast. I’ve received a lot of contacts this way. They may not use me, but at least they thought of me.
Comment: After they contact you is there an interview?
LYN: Normally there would be. It’s not like you have to audition- because a lot of actors already have works out there that can represent their skill- but you will have to at least meet with the directors or producers. For Heroes- I just happened to be in Beijing at the time and they told me to come in to the company to meet up. ZSX was supposed to be there too, but he didn’t end up going. I went by myself. I’m not hating on him- that’s just how it worked out. We ended up all meeting separately with the production company. All dramas go through the same process.
Comment: Why are you always targeting ZSX?
LYN: I’m not~ I’m joking; You all know I’m good friends with him. Sometimes I like to mention him, but it’s all in jest.
LYN: Sometimes when we’re on set the actors will joke around with each other, too. At most there’s four or five of us, and the director will give us a heads up on when we have to shoot our scene. We’ll all head towards the scene and pick on the person who arrives last. Like, “Why are you so late? We were waiting for you for 30+ seconds.”
LYN: That’s right. Time is money.
- also talks about sometimes actors will add in little flairs/tricks/movements during their scenes to fit their characters- like HYJ and the lighter in UN- and they’ll joke around and say it was an “Oscar-worthy” performance XD
- jokes around with the crew, too. like if the crew is setting up/adjusting the props, they’ll call it “Hollywood-level standards”
- really wants to meet someone who slacks on set, so he can have content for his stream. If he works with them for four months, he’ll have endless stories to tell, but never mention the name of the person. at least, not until the very end.
LYN: I also go online- and I see some articles criticizing actors for not saying lines, but numbers. /demonstrates/ Someones we’ll joke around on set and say a bunch of numbers when someone is rehearsing their scene. But we have to be careful about it, because there are always cameras around recording behind the scenes content. If a video like that ever gets out, no one will care that you’re joking- there’s no way you can explain it. The internet won’t care about the truth, they just care about using it as hate-material. Even if you yourself know that you’re joking, people are still going to use it against you.
- suddenly remembers a skit and starts to recite it
Comment: The lines are wrong.
LYN: This was three years ago, now.
LYN: It’s about time for the drama to air, so ZSX and YCY and I most likely- probably have to shoot some promo content. They were asking me already, “What type of style do you like?” But people who know me know that I don’t really like to take pictures. So I told them to choose, because they’re the ones who like to be pretty. I can’t pick a style, so I’ll just blend in with them. I’ll see what we end up shooting in a few days. This is the free kind- no need to buy a magazine or anything.
LYN: The caveat is- we’re not going to put any money into it. If we have to pay for something, we’re going to ask the drama production. Because a photo-shoot does cost quite some money. They can think of it as an investment for the drama. But if there’s no extra funds for this expense then I’m sorry. The very least you’ll get is pictures of the three of us taken with a cellphone.
LYN: I really don’t enjoy taking pictures, because I don’t think I look good. I’m not fishing for compliments- that’s just really what I think. When I take photos my head hurts. So in the past two years I’ve really only done one photo-shoot. Everything else is a promo pic for some event or show. I don’t normally like to take pictures. But this time- my hair is really long and I want to dye it and take some exaggerated photos, as a keepsake. A reminder of my longer hair before I cut it.
LYN: Even my studio was shocked- they asked what had gotten into me lately. Because I really don’t like to. For example, if we got to some event. You have to get up early to get your makeup done and then take some photos before the event to post. I hate those shoots. Why? Because 1. I don’t like to take pictures. I really don’t. 2. You have to get up really early. :( Sometimes my studio will try to persuade me to take photos- otherwise they’ll get yelled at by the fans for “not doing their jobs.” I asked them, “Are my fans really that spoiled? I don’t believe it. There’s no way they’re like that.”
Comment: We want to see them though.
LYN: There’s nothing to look at! Another thing is- it’s so expensive to take those photos. It’s enough for you to take wedding photos with.
Comment: Then ask you staff to snap a few pics with their phone instead.
LYN: Where’s the meaning in that?
- someone told him he’s trending, so he went to see what for.
LYN: I was thinking it would be a topic, but it’s just “LiuYuningLiveStream”- I was hoping it’d be something more like “LiuYuningSoHandsome”
- saw someone made a clip of photos of him and titled it “LYN’s Face was Made for Guzhuang-Idol Dramas”
LYN: I saw that and felt so guilty- don’t go out in public saying that, okay? If you keep complimenting me like that, you’re likely to compliment me to “death”.
LYN: I saw another one “LYN’s guzhuang looks are in the Top 10 among male celebrities.” Oh, my goodness. There are too many male celebrities, don’t put me in the top 10. Just put me in the Top 100.
LYN: I saw another one! It was hurtful but honest. Because all the photos are photo-shopped in some way, right. I saw someone say, “Hah. If LYN really looked like this, do you think he would still keep playing second leads?” // I just want to ask- are you looking down on second male leads or what??
- tells the fans to wait for him before complimenting his looks- after this drama wraps, he’ll go to Beijing and bet everything on a Thermage treatment, and we’ll see what he looks like after.
Comment: Does it hurt?
LYN: Beauty comes with a price.
- asks the chat to suggest what other beauty enhancing therapies he should try :p
LYN: Someone told me to get double eyelid surgery. I would if you all weren’t so familiar with my face already. I stream all the time. If I ever get anything done you’ll all be able to tell at a glance. My eyes are so small- if I do anything to them you can tell right away. Then later, there won’t even be a chance for you to try to cover it up for me. All because I stream too much. (there’s video evidence of his face, lol)
- also wants the fans to change the subject, bc this is just SO fascinating XD He needs to save face for the newcomers to his stream and talk about something intellectual
Comment: Ning-ge, what plans do you have on your future development?
LYN: You must be from Sina Weibo. Welcome. What are my plans for my future development? Well- It’s fine as long as I have work to do. Have you ever heard the phrase “nothing ever goes as you planned it”? My plans for now are to continue working on being an actor. It’s already enough that I even HAVE work right now.
LYN: My plans are thus: Step 1. Improve myself. Starting with the Thermage. Step 2. Improve my acting. Actually the very first step of my plan is already done- and that was buying this new mic. I wanted any OSTs I record in Hengdian to be that much better. The mic doesn’t help a lot, but I want to make improvements where I can. The Thermage is so my face can be better-looking. Then, I can do better on my dramas.
Comment: Why don’t you ever play dominating CEO types?
LYN: It’s not that I don’t want to- it’s that no one wants me to. Everyone understands me from a different perspective. Do you think anyone watching my stream right now will think I can act as a dominating CEO type?? No- all they see is a humorous Dongbei man. Do you think there’s any ounce of “domineering” here? With my happy, smiling face?
LYN: I can play the neighborhood fool.
Comment: It’s fine as long as you don’t open your mouth.
LYN: ...??
- Talking about how people would LIKE to play different types of roles; but if someone becomes known for a particular type of role, they’re going to stick to it because people already know they are suited for it. Additionally, there aren’t many opportunities for someone to TRY different roles. All other roles already have someone that suit them best.
LYN: Unless you’re a producer, and you can give yourself different types of roles.
LYN: You can’t blame actors (for sticking to one type of role); we really don’t have a lot of choice.
Comment: Bai Choufei (Heroes) and Luo Mingxi (ALZ) are very different though?
LYN: They’re different people but have similar personalities. All the roles I’ve played so far have something in common, other than Shades (UN)- he was a pretty unique existence. All the other roles I’ve played up to and including this one are like me in some way.
Comment: Cold-faced.
LYN: Yes and no. Bai Choufei isn’t.
-
Comment: Ning-ge is this called “just a short while”??
LYN: How long have I been streaming for?
-
LYN: Everyone has a style that suits them. I know there’s no way I can play a naive and innocent young man. Honestly, if you want me to act as someone very simple/innocent- like roles ZSX has played- naive, romantic, not knowing of the world... I can’t act as someone like that. I’d like to try, though.
LYN: Everyone has an air about them. Not good or bad. A person’s eyes show your experiences. One person’s eyes can be naive and innocent- you can tell they’ve grown up well under great conditions, and everything goes smoothly for them. Another person may have a story in their eyes- you can tell they’ve been through tough times. They’ve been bitten before and are afraid to put themselves out there. Someone’s eyes can reflect what they’ve experienced.
LYN: What is “temperament”? To me it’s this: family environment, how cultured you are, your current living conditions, and who you’ve loved. This is where “temperament” comes from.
-- bathroom break --
- it auto-played the New Years’ Song after his video clip
LYN: I’ve come to wish everyone an early New Years!
Comment: Gege, this is called “a little”?
LYN: What- it’s only been three hours, right? That’s not a lot. I normally- It’s not even three, like two and a half, right? It’s alright.
Comment: Ning-ge, when you stream you look like a fool.
LYN: ?? I’m curious- is this how you normally compliment people in your daily life? You’ve got to have classmates- I don’t know if you’re working or going to school or something else? Do you look at your classmates/colleagues and tell them they look like fools to their faces? Are they not going to slap you silly?
LYN: It’s the anonymity of the internet. I’m sure if there was a name and address behind every user id people wouldn’t arbitrarily comment like this. Do you dare? Tell me.
LYN: Why do I say stream “a little”- it’s because I’m different from other people. I was born doing live-streams. I’m a pro. My streaming and singing are on the same level. I’ve liked singing since I was small- I was in my school’s arts festival. I sang this song back then- let me play it for you. After I sang this all the girls in my school were after me. This song-
- 望乡/Wang Xiang
LYN: I’ve loved singing since I was young, and I’ve been singing for many years now. As for streaming I’ve been doing this for... 8-9 years. So I’m more specialized in this. A lot of people will wonder, “Why can’t MY idol come to stream?” It’s not that they don’t want to, they just might not be able to. I can understand- they really don’t know what they should talk about. It’s taken years of practice for me. If I just have one hour I’d rather not stream at all. Two hours is like- you and a friend go to a restaurant. The food arrives and you’ve had ONE bite, but your friend asks for the check and wants to leave. Three hours is- all the dishes have arrived and you’ve tried all of them, but you don’t have white rice. Four hours is- all the dishes are here and you’ve had about enough- you’ve cleared the hotpot empty, but you ordered two bowls of rice and a drink. If I put it this way you can compare it to how full I am.
~
- fans keep asking, so he adds more hours:
+ 5 hours - you and your friend have eaten everything clean, had two bowls of rice and a drink, but then you think “how about another beer?”
+ 6 hours - after our beers, we find a ktv and continue drinking
+ 7 hours - you’ve had too much at the ktv
+ 8 hours - you’re dizzy from the ktv but you want to find a noodle shop to have a snack before you go home and sleep
+ 9 hours - the noodle shop you ask for braised beef shank and can’t take it anymore so you order MORE beer
+ 10 hours - you’ve had your beef and beer but now it’s time for a bath- Dongbei has public bathhouses- so you sit in 45° water and soak (LYN: But after you’ve a had a drink, try not to sit for a bath because your blood vessels can’t handle it.)
+ 11 hours - you’ve had your bath and gone upstairs for a foot massage, cupping, and gua shua. A joyful feeling.
+ 12 hours - after the cupping, you’re hungry again so you go to the cafeteria and order another bowl of noodles. because you can get hungry after a bath.
~
Comment: After 12 hours call the ambulance.
~
Comment: What about 13 hours?
LYN: You just came here to ask how a young man spends the 24 hours of his daily life, didn’t you?
Comment: I don’t understand Dongbei culture.
LYN: It’s not about understanding it or not, and it’s also not like I go out and hang out. It’s just because I’ve done a lot of different jobs. Why did I mention a hotpot shop earlier? Because I used to be a waiter at one. Why did I mention the noodle shop? Because after my shift at the hotpot place I’d go to the noodle shop to eat. Why did I mention the bathhouse? Because I’ve also worked in one. I know the ins-and-outs of the business very well.
Comment: Unfortunately I never saw you.
LYN: You wanted me to wait on you in the bathhouse?? Or you wanted to go to a hotpot shop and have me serve you?
Comment: Did you scrub people’s backs for them?
LYN: You all know that I know HOW to. But I actually never did, because I don’t have the stamina. I figure if I ever did I’d have passed out by the end of it.
Comment: Ning-ge has had a lot of grievous experiences.
LYN: What’s grievous about them? They were all there so I could make a living for myself. When I worked in the hotpot place I could make 4000+RMB in a month. That’s a lot better than what people are getting paid nowadays.
- /explains how most of the income comes from selling alcohol to big spenders/
LYN: I’ve done all sorts of jobs before. It just gave me the opportunity to observe people.
-
Comment: Ning-ge, if you weren’t in charge of scrubbing backs, were you in charge of the foot massage?
LYN: What’s up? If I were, do you regret not having come to my workplace and asking me to massage your feet for you? Someone earlier said they regret not knowing me sooner. Did you want me to wait on you at the restaurant and introduce the menu to you?
LYN: “Our lamb is very fresh today. We just got in a shipment of Wagyu beef. Let me tell you- this cow only eats the freshest greens, drinks beer, and listens to music.” Customers will then ask you, “How is it good?” And you can say, “It’s good because it’s expensive. 52RMB for a plate of four pieces.” -- D-Do you think I’m joking?? This is a real thing!
[t/n: he forgot about the daily massages (for the cows) XD]
LYN: Go look it up. A cow. Drinks beer. Listens to music. Gets eaten by people in the end. I don’t know why but its meat is very good, very tender. All the music it listens to is Modern Brothers’ Liu Yuning’s. :p When they really have nothing to do they play my streams for it.
LYN: A lot of people have fun when they’re watching my streams. Even if you don’t find it very meaningful, it’s still stress relieving. How about this- if you have a cat or dog at home, drag them over to watch my streams. Their personalities will turn for the better. Really! If they’re subjected to a happy attitude they’ll be happy too. Grab your cat or dog right now.
LYN: I’m not satisfied with just people watching my streams, now I have to get your pets too.
~
Comment: Ning-ge, when you retire you can open a hotpot shop.
LYN: Why would I retire??
~
Comment: I’ll drag my kid over to watch your stream.
LYN: That’s not necessary. Let your kids watch Ultraman or whatever. If they watch my stream they might not even understand what I’m talking about. A lot of adults can’t even understand.
~
- about the opening a hotpot place thing- don’t think he hasn’t thought of it before. when he was in cooking school he had a friend whose family owned a restaurant, so he went to work there in Shenzhen, and practically didn’t leave the city until he auditioned for Super Boy. he went to Beijing and encountered Hai Di Lao for the first time, then wanted to bring the hotpot back to Dandong. he started researching the tools/equipment he’d need, but it’s so expensive. so he stopped that endeavor. XD he started streaming and making some money and then wanted to try opening a music cafe (with AZ & DF), but then he got famous before they could even start.
~
Comment: Would you consider doing it now?
LYN: No. I know a lot of artists are trying- they’re opening up their own restaurants. I think I can safely say I know better than them. I’m a chef, I’ve been a server for many years and I’ve even been the manager for a lot of places. If I ever start up my own restaurant business I think I can do better. Unfortunately, my venture into acting has obstructed my venture into the restaurant business.
Comment: You still can.
LYN: Why would I need to? I know a lot of people are hit on hard times right now. They may have shopfronts, but they can’t even open. :(
LYN: You know how I got this second-hand mic? The seller used to own a studio but can’t get any revenue now and has had to resort to selling their equipment.
LYN: If I ever open my own restaurant business I’ll tell you first thing. I’ll let you become an affiliate for free. Let’s wait until it happens though.
Comment: I feel like you’ll lose out.
LYN: What do you mean?? Friends, have you realized that there are always going to be these types of people around you? The ones who always put you down before you even try. The person who said that is exactly this type of person. You’re so naughty.
Comment: Then how are you supposed to make money?
LYN: Am I here to tell you guys how to start up and run a business now?? I can't help you. I’M not even clear on it.
LYN: I feel like there are certain people- no matter where you throw them they’re always going to find a way to make it. There are people like this. Honestly, when I was a waiter I made enough to make a living. But you have to find a way to do even better for yourself. Nothing will come to you if you just complain and do nothing about it. When I was selling clothes I could make 2-3K in a month. But I wasn’t satisfied- so I went to find a bar to sing in.
- reminisces about singing in the bar w/ DF-ge.; there was a day he clearly remembers, a December 31 wherein he was at the bar w/ DF-ge and another female singer. They were all up on stage, but the girl was singing, so lyn was just sitting at the side. There was a guy with wads of $$ (American, $100 bills) and just kept giving them to the girl. In the end he had two bills left and LYN and DF shared a look (bc all this while they’ve been staring from the corners of their eyes at this guy giving the female singer SO much money) and then pretended not to have been looking at this guy at all. The guy ended up giving them a bill each. XD
LYN: When I think about it now, it was a test of my jealousy. I’m not the type of person who will be jealous of someone doing better than me. In fact I’m happy for them- because they’ll treat me to a meal most times. :)
- brags about his Df-ge for a little bit (also explains who DF even /is/, because we haven’t seen the other 2/3 of the Modern Brothers in a while/
- Zhu Xudan-laoshi is here; asks her if she wants to join the stream
LYN: It was her birthday a few days ago, and I forgot about it. Happy Birthday!
- Peng Haizheng (?) is also here; a colleague from Floating World
---
ZXD: I took my makeup off already. They can’t see me right?
LYN: They can’t, but you should out some clothes on just in case you press the wrong button
[t/n: LOL]
ZXD: Ok, yeah. I’ll cover the camera.
ZXD: I didn’t really mean to come in! I was just trying it out. I haven’t told my company about this-
LYN: It’s ok. Just chat a bit.
ZXD: Alright, then I’ll do it behind their backs.
LYN: Oh- if you want to chat with LYN, you have to run it by your company first??
ZXD: No- normally, no. But with such a big public figure on weibo like yourself, shouldn’t I tell my company?
LYN: If you DON’T tell them will they fire you or??
ZXD: No, I don’t think so. We have a contract, after all.
LYN: Then what are you afraid of.
ZXD: /laughs/ I’m not afraid.
LYN: It’s ok. I’m not trying to push any products nor do I use my stream for commercial purposes. We’re just friends and you haven’t gone to sleep yet so you decided to come to my stream to play a little. There’s nothing else to it. You don’t need to tell your company about connecting with me.
ZXD: This is my first time connecting with someone on weibo like this. Hold on- let me get my coat on.
LYN: Happy New Year, friends. It’s already 12a.
ZXD: Happy New Year!
LYN: I’m worried though- if your company finds you’ve connected with me like this will it bring you any trouble?
ZXD: No, don’t worry about it. I was kidding. The most they’ll say is that it’s so late but I haven’t slept yet.
LYN: Alright, then. Let’s chat- uhm... what do you have planned next?
ZXD: It isn’t confirmed yet.
LYN: I see... (I ask) because I’m sure a lot of your friends (fans) are worried about you. Honestly, I don’t really know you too well. Then- how many projects have you been in, from debut until now?
ZXD: I haven’t counted before. How about you?
LYN: An estimate?
ZXD: Erm.. /counting/
LYN: So many!
ZXD: In the tens, probably. Don’t ask me such specific questions, that I have to count for!
LYN: Ah, then what sort of common questions should I ask... I really- I’m not often awkward when talking to people, but I don’t know you that well, so I don’t know what I should ask about. Let’s ask about something more thrilling, then- which male actor did you have the best time working with?
ZXD: I was happy to work with all of them.
LYN: Okay, then who WEREN’T you happy working with?
ZXD: Haha- you asked me so many, I want to ask you a question.
LYN: Shoot.
ZXD: Which female actor were YOU the happiest to work with?
LYN: It’s like this...erm... I haven’t filmed that many dramas yet. But from I’ve experienced so far, I get happier with each passing project.
ZXD: Then if you’re getting more and more happy that means the first one you worked with you weren’t happy.
LYN: I wasn’t unhappy with her- she just... in the drama she didn’t like me back.
ZXD: Ah...
LYN: I mean- the first one I worked with was fine, too. It’s just that it improves over time, right? Just like with acting- in your first drama your acting was just okay, but you’re next one will be better. It’s like that.
ZXD: I’ve heard that it IS really nice to work with you, though. Because you’re a good person.
LYN: :) Of course.
LYN: Then, have you ever heard of an actor talking smack about me behind my back?
ZXD: I haven’t.
LYN: Really?
ZXD: Really. Because we never got around to talking about you before.
LYN: LOL. Oh, I see. The problem is no one cares about me, so they’re not even going to mention me. Sorry- I thought too highly of myself. Honestly speaking, we don’t talk about ZXD either.
ZXD: How can you be so petty?
LYN: No- I know, there’s nothing to say about me.
ZXD: Oh, but-
LYN: It’s all about word-of-mouth reputation- oh, you can speak.
ZXD: No, you. I want to hear what you have to say.
LYN: Everyone always says that they’re happy and it’s nice to work with you.
ZXD: I was chatting with one of our new producers and I told them that if our drama needed an OST, I wanted you to sing it. They said they would go back and listen to your songs. They know you sing very well!
LYN: What drama?
ZXD: Liu Guang Yin (流光引)
LYN: Has it finished filming yet?
ZXD: Yeah, I finished it before I started with Zhe Tian (Blocking the Sky).
LYN: Alright, so if they come to find me, I’ll give you 10%.
ZXD: 10% is a little low...
LYN: It’s low? How much do you want, meimei-ah?
ZXD: 15-20%
LYN: I understand. You’ll take 20% from me and then 10% from your company, is that it?
ZXD: We’ll talk later.
LYN: It’s alright, 20%’s fine too.
LYN: Kidding, kidding. Thank you for putting a word in for me.
LYN: Honestly I’ve only just gotten to know ZXD. She’s a great person and I hope we get the chance to work together sometime.
ZXD: Yes, of course.
LYN: Do you have any productions where you can make the decision on who your male lead is?
ZXD: Uhm.. No. But! When we’re in talks and they ask about who would be a suitable actor for a role I can suggest you!
LYN: How much can I get from this exchange?
ZXD: We can discuss it later- it depends on how well received the project is. If it’s a good project I’ll ask for more.
LYN: /laughs/
Comment: Hope to see you two work together!
LYN: Of course, there’s always the chance. She’s doing much better than I am right now, though.
ZXD: No, no.
Comment: You’re blatantly making business transactions??
LYN: No- collaborations are like this. You have to make sure everyone’s making a profit.
ZXD: Hey! I never asked for money!! What I mean is Liu-laoshi’s acting and visuals and other aspects are all excellent and even if I don’t recommend him someone else will put him on the board, too!
LYN: What does being “put on the board” mean?? Oh- I got it. You mean when they stick photos of actors up next to a role, as a list of ideal candidates.
ZXD: Yes, yes. I’ve seen your picture on many a board.
LYN: Oh- which ones have considered me? I’ve never heard about them. Can you reveal?
ZXD: I don’t remember them. Next time I’ll make note of it and tell you.
- wishes her a happy birthday, and hopes she gets a lot of work this year.
LYN: Is there anything else you wanted to chat about?
ZXD: No~ How do you exit this thing??
LYN: Don’t rush. I haven’t finished yet. I still have to thank you- I suddenly dragged you in here and you gave me face and didn’t reject the call. If I sent her the invite but she rejected it I’m telling you my face would be on the floor.
ZXD: Ning-ge, didn’t I invite you?
LYN: No, I clicked on your avatar and invited you in.
ZXD: Oh, is that how I got here??
LYN: Yeah! You’re a guest in my stream, you can’t invite me. I (the host) have to invite you!
ZXD: Is that how it is?!
ZXD: Then, since it was my birthday, shouldn’t you send me a present or something?
LYN: I sent so many already!
ZXD: But I can’t receive them yet.
LYN: What else do you want?
ZXD: Can you sing me a song?
- lyn suddenly attacks, telling her to find weibo customer service if she can’t access her gifts XD
ZXD: Don’t we want to give everybody some bonus?
LYN: The fact that you’re here and they’re able to listen to our conversation is bonus enough. They’re already very happy. They welcome you back the next time, too. When we get to know each other better we can probably have a more natural conversation, too.
ZXD: So is a song a different price, then?
LYN: Oh, you want to request a song?
ZXD: Yah.
LYN: Alright then, what did you want to hear?
ZXD: Whatever~
LYN: See- my friends. As a singer, asking another person to name a song and them not being able to (name one of his)- that’s a total fail. That’s my failure as a singer.
ZXD: /laughing/
LYN: If she asked me which of her dramas I like the best and 1. 2. 3- “I like all of them!” That’s a problem.
ZXD: No~ Unparalled and Rang Jiu- everything sounds good!
LYN: Name a third. I’ll give you a 100RMB red envelope right now, if you can name a third.
ZXD: Ok!
ZXD: /pause/
ZXD: Spend My Life With You. Beggar. (sounds like she’s reading off of sth)
LYN: Stop reading the comments.
ZXD: /giggles/ One Love As Always. Gazing up at the Clear Sky. Tian Wen.
LYN: Ok, alright. Which one do you want to hear?
ZXD: Unparalleled.
LYN: Nope.
ZXD: Uhm...
LYN: Not because I won’t sing this song, but because YOU can request (but) I won’t sing. I’ll owe you. It’s too late right now. I’ll owe you- for the next time.
ZXD: Ok, then I’ll make note of it.
ZXD: You’ll sing it in your next life.
LYN: That’s unlikely.
ZXD: No, I was reading one of the comments.
LYN: Thank you for coming and chatting with me. I wanted to get you on the last time so people can get to know you- I mean everyone already KNOWS you. I just wanted to show off my friends. But thanks for coming this time. Really. Thank you.
ZXD: You got so polite all of a sudden. Do you have a lot of friends?
LYN: Of course. I.. really don’t have a lot of friends, I can count them with both hands.
ZXD: Ok...
LYN: Do you have a lot of friends?
ZXD: I’m like you. I can count them with two hands.
LYN: Can you share who?
ZXD: You.
LYN: Other than me. All the people she mentions now are closer to her than me.
ZXD: Reba.
LYN: That’s a given. Who else?
ZXD: Ah... I won’t tell you! You only need to know two for now. I’ll let you know the rest slowly.
ZXD: How about you say two?
LYN: Two’s not enough. Usually the people I mention in my streams, the ones I can joke about, are my friends.
LYN: Thank you for coming. Next time I’ll give you a song.
ZXD: Ok. ... How do I leave?
LYN: And- if your company has any problems with this later, you can come find me.
ZXD: It’s okay! Everyone around me really likes you and watches your streams often. In the beginning it was all them who were sending clips of your streams into our group chat.
LYN: Oh, so your staff shared with you.
ZXD: Yeah. They wanted me to learn from you.
LYN: Don’t learn from me. You’ll be done for.
ZXD: It’s because I can’t really express myself very well, and they told me to look at you, and how you can explain what you want to say so clearly but still make it interesting. That’s what they wanted me to learn from you.
LYN: So you’re saying that your staff all think you don’t speak clearly.
ZXD: A little bit, yeah.
LYN: Is that so. Then.. did you ever think you would connect with me on such a big platform one day?
ZXD: I didn’t! It’s my honor, really.
LYN: Okay. Thank you for coming. You can come again if you have the chance.
ZXD: Ok! Then kick me out now!
LYN: Alright. “Kick you out” LOL. So mean. I can end the call, I don’t need to kick you out.
ZXD: Oh, you can end it?
LYN: Yeah, whenever I felt like not talking to you anymore I could have ended the call.
LYN: I’m kidding.
LYN: Thank you (x3) Zhu Xudan. // I’ll “kick you out” now.
ZXD: Bye bye! Good night!
LYN: Bye bye!!
