just a thought experiment:

go on twitter and go on tumblr dot txt and look for your fav who follows them and imagine them sitting across from u

and ask "why do u follow this account that hates trans kids"

like people doing "problematic" stuff and the culture of calling people or media "problematic" has no discernible structure or discipline so it becomes a meme to dismiss people who write posts about it which is a dummy thing to do

in recognizing transgressions that people do big or small it's paramount to factor that into how you see that person or media

like it isn't like a klaxon blaring with a cease and desist to stop liking whatever but it's looking at what u consume critically without immediately dismissing people who are hurt and without immediately making excuses

after hearing carrie keranen (mami tomoe's english va) talk about how madoka magica is a [prototypical joseph campbell] hero's journey of a young girl I really want to read more campbell and rewatch pmmm

like I read a lot of interpretations that debate whether or not it's a deconstruction of the genre and that put me off a bit but hearing this made me want to revisit it since that realization adds a lot of life to how I read the series

specifically she referred to how meeting mami and her early death aligns with the madoka's meeting the mentor and crossing of the threshold respectively

anyway that's probably a more effective framework to understand pmmm than any I've read before

Their "yucky phrasing" didn't describe just any opponent, it described a sore loser. A sore loser, especially that hypothetical one, is "weak ass shit" and they shouldn't be playing. People can do anything competitively to feel powerful, why does it matter if it's football, Smash, or cooking? Should we avoid everyone who's competitive because the goals are the same regardless of the medium.

it was pretty dismissive of people who feel targeted in games like the way the whole post is framed (removed from the original context and full image) it just comes across as unsavory to me which is fair to disagree with

anyway, 'powerful' in the context with which I phrased has less emphasis in wow I did a good job and more like wow I beat other people kind of way

like I mostlybelieve there are enriching or shallow ways to be into mp games. for example, there's appreciating learning / exhibiting skills / working in a team and there's crushing people in a hamster wheel kind of cruel gratification kind of way which isn't a dichotemy you need to buy into but avoiding the latter is a standard I have for myself that I try to keep somehwat strict to

it's worth noting the evil origins of the concept of 'conspiracy theories' like it's strongly suggested (probably explicitly but I don't wanna research right now) that it was coined by the cia to silence detractors of the warren commission 

and in general now is used to silence people who speak out against systemic oppression as well as get people to potentially align against marginalized people etc

ideally though and I post about it a lot that I think it's possible to forge a new conspiracy theory culture that takes the literary and mythical value of the stories spun into a form that isn't Fucked Up and Evil

really tired of the idea that people "slap on labels" to "try to be different"

to shame people for exploring their identity is generally pretty oppressive

if you use the term "special snowflake" you should go to the beach and stuff your ignorant head in the sand

the worldview that different articulations of the human experience are solely for shallow purposes of attention and distinction is oppressive
