For any one having too much fandom anxiety over Coronation Street at the moment.

You know I have suggested Berena (Holby City) Angst filled but there’s a huge happy ending and the angst is safely in the past.

I also suggest Silvacre (Vigil) - lovely angst but not a lot of screen time directly between them - bonus they are both police

Otalia (Guiding Light) is an option - an old school brilliant ship — but whoo-boy do you need to be able to stomach cliches… and not to spoil it this is the only kiss you are gonna see.

Or you could go with the 400 lesbians of Shortland Street - they’ll end badly but there’s are certainly a whole bunch of ships to choose from!

Bonus recommendation - while you’re navigating the solar storm of lesbian angst on Coronation Street consider this slowest burn ever sweet thing from Anne Lister’s Yorkshire. They’re straight (presumably) but they are also somehow so very lesbian. All Creatures Great and Small’s Siegfried and Audrey

i'm watching the otalia storyline for the first time ever bc apparently soap lesbians are like. my entire personality now and can i just say. "they think we love each other" "well, we do..." is such a hilariously insane piece of dialogue. i need to go back in time and watch that air live

Olivia and Natalia || All This Time

So if you follow me on x/twitter you'd know I was doing an Otalia rewatch with fans and even CC herself walking down memory lane with every post.

And as I near the end of my rewatch, here’s an edit I made. For a pairing that will forever hold the top spot on my list, I found it difficult to edit Otalia.

Why? Because everything about them is so beautiful, so profound, that a 3 to 4 minute edit just doesn’t do their story justice.

Their journey was so well-written, and their love was so organic.

We didn’t just fall in love with Olivia, we fell in love with Natalia as Olivia did.

Every conversation, every word they shared, was a testament to the depth of their connection. The way they communicated with honesty and vulnerability is I think just some of the things that made their love feel so real.

Out of all my favorite sapphic couples, Otalia stands as the best because their love was equal and unwavering.

There was never a moment where one loved the other more. And that’s why even their angsty or trying moments were beautiful to watch, because you could always feel how deeply they cared for one another.

A huge thank you to Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia for bringing these characters to life so beautifully. 😊

Otalia will always be my forever OTP and I will never tire of rewatching or talking about their story. 'Til my next rewatch.

Hardly anyone will get this but the Otalia parallels with Swarla are RIDICULOUS. Them sort of coparenting their daughter, enemies to friends to loves, falling in love whilst supporting each other through incredibly difficult times, one a successful business owner with many marriages/divorces with men under her belt, the other being a recent widow, one having a serious health condition & constantly playing it down & the other being supportive of her in hospital but unable to express properly to the other how she feels, booking their first romantic date to a spa, being caught by a friend at said spa & having to keep up the pretence that they’re friends because otherwise gossip would spread & they want to stay in their bubble for now, having an argument afterwards because of the tension that causes, ETC ETC ETC.

I love both of them so much & I can’t believe Corrie’s nicking sapphic plotlines from a soap that aired over 15 years ago in the US hehehe (/hj)
