@otherlab Cardboard Glider - @otherlab claim that their “aerodynamics research group pushes the limits of what's possible with autonomous aerial vehicle design” and with this superb idea of an autonomous drone, Apsara, that can deliver a single payload of 1kg they have reached truly unique heights. The entire 90cm framed shell will disintegrate in a few months but with new technology being processed, such as a mushroom based material called ‘mycelium’, the body could vanish in a few days. With the electronics also being researched with the idea of those too dissolving, Apsara becomes a very interesting prospect for buyers who need a UAV of low cost and silent efficiency. The New DARPA Softshell Jacket

When the original DARPA Hoodie was released by Betabrand back in 2010, the press coverage it received was enough to put the funky San Francisco-based clothing company that I now work at on my radar. So it was a huge honor to be asked to work on the redesign of the latest version and to transform it into the high-performance technical outerwear garment that it is today. 

With a new fleece-backed softshell fabric that sheds rain while still allowing sweat to evaporate and pass through a microporous membrane, a heat transfer logo, pop color trims and contrast lining, plus an updated fit, this evolved version of the DARPA hoodie is something I am very proud of. Like the original, the seams are engineered using algorithms developed for use at the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) by Saul Griffith. Each of the 12 main fabric panels nest tightly together on the cutting table, greatly reducing the amount of fabric used during production.
