“Aria -- -- Aria --- -- ARIA! Noooo, stop you can’t you can’t take her” Callie woke up screaming again, the nightmare of that day ten years ago played over and over while she slept, but the worst part of this nightmare was that when she woke up it was still a reality. Callie could remember vividly the day her parents died, and even more vividly the day her baby sister Aria was torn away from her, leaving the Latina all alone. She rolled over and hit the light on top of her alarm clock go check the time 06:23AM the small light illuminating the picture of her and Aria on the nightstand, she picked up the frame and ran her fingers across the glass, Aria was grinning in the picture it was taken just before the accident, just before Callie’s life was ripped from her in some cruel turn of fate leaving her and Aria Orphans and them later taking away of the one thing she had left -- her sister. “I’ll find you one day, I promise.” she whispered hugging the frame tight to her chest. After being separated in the foster system, Callie never gave up hope that she would one day be reunited with her sister. Some days it was the only thing that she could cling on to was hope.
She got into the office a little after 7AM with a starbucks coffee in one hand and a huge ring binder full of her cases -- her supervisor, Karen, who had been her own social worker as a minor wasn’t in the office yet, Callie thought it was unlike her, Karen was always in before her. The Latina was half way down her cinnamon latte when Karen arrived looking deeply concerned, a look that Callie knew well it usually meant they were heading out NOW --”is everything okay?” Callie asked cautiously. “Not great I just got a report of a kid being abused by her foster mother -- -- I’m heading over there right now, it’s not one of my cases -- -- it’s one of Aaron’s referral's but he’s in Atlanta,, and this can’t wait til he gets back on Monday -- I won’t be long” Karen replied, Callie’s brow furrowed, foster families were suppose to help, they were suppose to make kids feel secure, it still astonished the Latina that people could be so cruel, although she knew herself what the foster system was like, it was no place for kids -- and if she could do anything to fix it she sure as hell would, “No -- I’m coming too. If that’s okay? If this kid is getting abused, she needs somewhere to go, and it’s Friday you know what it’s like trying to get temporary accommodation on a Friday -- -- so if it comes to it she can stay with me, it won’t be the first time, and I am sure it won’t be the last.” Callie replied. Not only was the Latina working toward being a fully qualified social worker, but she was also registered as emergency foster carer. “What would I do without you Torres -- -- come on, it’s on the other side of the city we leave now and we should get there before 8.” With that Callie and Karen left arriving the house at exactly 07:53AM
Walking up the drive way the prepared their self’s for the worst, Callie could hear yelling coming from inside the house, that was never a good sign. But putting on her poker face she knocked on the door and waited she could hear the screaming stop. But nothing could prepare her for what she was about to find when the door opened, a woman in her mid forties greeted them, and behind her was a girl who looked no older than 16, tears visible in the little girls eyes -- her eyes -- no, it couldn’t be, it couldn’t be her, could it? Callie froze, staring straight past the foster mother her eyes fixed on the little girl behind her, after what felt like an eternity of silence she managed to form words -- “Aria? --” her voice shook her eyes wide in shock, was this really her little sister? the little girl she had spent a decade looking for?
