One of my favorite authors ever just passed away. She just happened to give the world one of my fictional role models, a certain little girl who lived on Klickitat Street and signed her Q’s to look like kitty butts.
RIP Beverly Cleary. 1916-2021. 😢

scarlettmi replied to your post: Book Tumblr, can you help?
Not sure if that was it but it had a similar quote in it, was by Beverly Cleary, & has something to do with an unraveling dress?
It was "Homer Price" by Robert McCloskey. The unraveling dress in "Ellen Tibbets" is about Ellen ripping Augustine's sash off her better-made dress. The reason I thought the book I was thinking about was Cleary is because the main character in "Homer Price" is very much an Otis Spofford type.
Today is Beverly Cleary's 100th birthday. Even though it's probably been 20 years since I found an old copy of Otis Spofford in the school library. I still remember not quite getting the lesson of comeuppance. I still think about that today. Thanks for that.
