Self-aware! Hori just mindlessly follows the script until suddenly one day, after you replayed his route, he slowly began to see you behind the MC.
He was confused, not sure how to deal with this. Is something wrong with him?
And before you realize that his sprite was sometimes missing. You believe it must've been a bug.
Self-aware! Hori ,who began to question his reality. Was he really such a foul to mindlessly follow a code?
And slowly, the more he realized, the more he could see you.
And my, you were the prettiest person he ever saw.
Self-aware! Hori, who became his own person, not his scripted personality. He's slightly different now.
Maybe you notice the way some texts appear out of the blue, which wasn't originally in the game.
Self-aware! Hori, likes to silently look at what you do when you leave your phone with his game open to do chores around the house or your hobby.
Self-aware! Hori sometimes asks himself if he really does deserve you. He rather thinks of himself as an "uninteresting old man".
But...when he finds small notes and posts on your phone about little things you like about him... He felt a warmth spread through him.
Bonus! You don't use she/her pronouns:
Self-aware! Hori ,who noticed that you don't like she/her pronouns and that you just put it up with it to be with him. Imagine he changed the MC's pronouns to your preferred pronouns and forces the game to let you use a non - feminine name (if your name isn't feminine).
He loves you too much- not because a script told him to, but because he truly does <3
[ Angst, hurt/no comfort, kinda lighthearted in some parts, reader is not MC, MC will be called "Miss Firefighter" - Yes, I did referenced that to lads, thank you for noticing, lots of swear words, you're besties with Matsui, Reader lowkey hating on MC lol.]
Sum: You and Muto have been a couple for a few months and things have gone uphill. Suddenly a new girl named "MC" is coming to the fire station. And Muto has been...a little too close to her. Or perhaps it's just your jealousy playing tricks?
I've been working at the fire station for over 2 years now, and things couldn't be any better, especially with Muto by my side. We had been together for a few months. Who knew that under his tough personality lay a gentle soul?
It was no secret that he paid more attention to my safety during alarms than to others, worried that I might fall the same fate as his ex-girlfriend, who died in a hotel fire a decade ago.
But recently, since this new girl – MC, or Miss Firefighter– had started to work at our fire station, Muto has been spending most of his time with her.
At first, I brushed it off. Muto was always the first contact person for newbies and the first to train them, so I just assumed that she had to be trained a lot, that maybe she had a lot of questions, or that maybe his schedule was changed and he forgot to tell me.
But wait.
No.
He wouldn't forget.
I was always the first to know.
Like how he told me about the death of his girlfriend after years of not telling anyone, how he secretly had a sweet tooth, that he almost burned down his kitchen while cooking spaghetti when he first started living alone...
And now he's gone, his presence a little colder.
Was it because of her?
Is his love for me slowly fading away?
Did I...Do something wrong?
To be honest, I had never seen this girl.
And yet, I hate her.
I hate how she effortlessly warped Muto around her finger.
I hate how she gets all of his precious time.
I hate how she gets to have Muto all to herself.
And that was it.
The day came. I had finally decided to confront him. I couldn't take it any longer!
I even convinced Matsui to come along! I needed him for emotional support.
We stepped inside the elevator, and I pressed the button for the second floor. Matsui's voice filled the space.
"Muto needs to let go of the past."
I looked at his side profile, my brows pinched.
"Huh?"
Matsui's face turned to me.
"I see you haven't seen her yet. I must admit, even I had to overhear the talk between Hori and Muto to connect the dots."
As always, Matsui left me puzzled.
"Matsui, I swear one day I'll hire Professor Layton to solve your riddles."
A chuckle escaped his lips as we both looked at the elevator door.
*bing!*
The door opened and in view appeared the door leading to Muto's office opposite of us.
"Maybe you'll figure it out.-"
"Matsui, I swear I'll throw you out of Muto's window."
I stopped in front of the door, shooting a playful, annoyed glare at him.
Just as I was about to knock-
"Ah, So this is your Ex-Girlfriend, who died in a hotel fire?"
A female voice was talking behind the door and I hesitated.
Who was she?
"Yeah. I miss her. And to think it was all because of an arsonist..." Muto's voice grew quieter in the end.
I was in shook.
"The voice you're hearing. It's her, MC." Matsui explained.
"Y-You mean...the MC, who he only met a few months ago?"
I was furious, my fist shaking slightly.
How dare she, just stepping into our world, sweet-talking into his ear so she can have him all to herself?
And how the fuck did she get him to talk so soon?
It took me fucking months for him to talk about that topic.
Months.
I always made sure that he was comfortable, never pressuring him to anything.
And she?
She just asked him that like it was nothing.
Nothing heavy
And he answered like it was a talk about the weather.
"Oh! Before I forget, I also brought you your favourite chocolate from the candy shop around the corner! I remember you telling me that-"
And that was it.
How the fuck did she knew?
My body was shaking.
He never shared this with anyone.
What am I to him? I thought he was too embarrassed to talk about it?
I thought this was a secret only meant for me?
I quickly grabbed the door handle and pushed the door open.
I spotted a flushed Muto and a girl, MC I assume, in front of me.
She held a box of his favourite chocolate in her hands.
" Oh, hello (Name)." Muto greeted me with a smile.
But something was different.
"Am I...Interrupting something?" I really tried, but i just couldn't hide the jealousy in my voice.
"No. It's alright. Is there something I can help you with?"
I took a deep breath.
"Well...We need to have a talk," I told him, my eyes darken.
Silence.
"Later. I promise I'll finish on time today, darling. I'm working out with MC today."
So it was her.
My eyes swiftly focused on her.
Her red-brownish hair was glowing and oh-so-perfectly flowing in the wind as she dusted off her ugly-fitting uniform. I bet she thought she was better than everyone.
"You're never home, and if you are, then only to sleep. Well, probably. I always feel the pressure when you're getting in bed next to me."
I spit my thoughts out, rambling.
Did I care that that girl was hearing everything?
Not even a bit.
She might as well keep her dirty and annoying-ass comments to herself.
No doubt she would be one of these loud bitch pissers, who you're forced to stay with in one apartment past the quiet hours yelling and laughing so loud you're wondering how the neighbours are not complaining yet.
And while you just wanted to enjoy the quiet.
Based on a true story btw.
"(Name)...I'm sorry. My work is currently-"
"Oh, quit your excuses!" I cut him off.
Yeah right. Even our boss Hori gets off on time!
"Muto, you have to let go."
Both of us flinched as we gazed to our side.
Right, Matsui.
"And who told you to talk, Dipshit?"
And here we go again. Muto was snapping at Matsui. We were all used to it.
"Muto, we've known each other for over 10 years. I know why, and I know why her of all the girls you trained with."
"Matsui, What does that mean? I'm not in the mood to solve puzzles, Mr. Wanna-be-Layton!" I inquired.
And then her so quirky and unpleasant voice filled the air, like the sound of a mosquito right next to your ear while you were trying to sleep.
"Come on now, don't be mean to him."
I was so close to just slap the living daylight out of her as she appeared next to me, her too-wide eyes trying to find mine.
But to her luck, Matsui stepped in.
"No need to, we have our own jokes and nicknames for each other," he explained as he pushed his glasses up.
And finally, she made the wise decision to shut the fuck up and back off.
I took a deep breath and avoided Muto's gaze. I still couldn't believe that he thought this annoying bitchface named "MC" was better than me.
And then, I spotted an old Photo of his Ex-girlfriend he had lost about 10 years ago. Her hair was a dark brown, with a slight hint of red at the top. Her Ocean blue eyes were staring at the camera while her orange sundress was waving behind her.
And then it hit me.
"Muto, you have to let go."
"Muto needs to let go of the past."
MC she-
I looked at the girl next to Muto again.
Hair: redbrown.
Eyes: a similar blue to her.
and her figure-
She- that was why-
"(Name)-" Muto's hand was reaching for me.
"It was- Because- She- MUTO! How could you!" Slapping his hand away, I grabbed Matsui's instead.
"You realised, I assume," Matsui gave out as his seemingly emotionless expression met Muto's for a moment.
Muto was still in shock- eyes wide - as he watched me dragging Matsui away.
"That absolut SICK bastard! Who does he even think he is- Just because- just- his ex-." I kept on rambling on our way to the elevator, stomping inside, before punching the button to the first floor.
"How could - how- he-"
Tears were streaming down my face. It was getting harder to talk.
My sight was blurry when I felt Matsui's warm hands rubbing my arm.
"Muto is still stuck in the past. It's not your fault."
I heard his voice next to me.
"Maybe- right, it's not my fault", I said to myself.
"Let's go. I know a café nearby that offers not only pastries, but also has cats running around."
I noticed the open elevator door.
"Sounds good. Thank you."
Matsui guided me out of the fire station while I tried to wipe my tears. Some firefighters were watching us, but I didn't care.
I just needed to get out of here.
And dear Satan from hell was I glad to have my best friend by my side: Matsui.
Thanks for reading!!! I'm also open for requests! (But only the burning heart characters!)
