"I'd walk through the flames for you" - Oneshot
Characters: Hori Renji, Muto Takaki, Hiromi Kikuchi, Chiba Junpei and Matsui Senga
Scenario: You were trapped in a burning building and they arrived together with other firefighters. How would it go?
If Chiba knew that you were trapped in the building you were in, he would've stepped inside the building before his boss could even explain their plan.
But he didn't. Until he saw you at the window, waving like crazy, your arm covering half of your face.
"Fuck! (Name)! What are you doing here?!"
As soon as he and some other firefighters were sent in to rescue you and the other people inside, he immediately rushed to find you.
Which was rather difficult, when he couldn't even see his own hands in front of his eyes from all the smoke.
Yet suddenly, you found him first by running towards him.
Chiba quickly picked you up and turned around and suddenly the floor over him collapsed as the door got blocked, smoke filling the room.
Then he saw the ladder of a firetruck outside.
An idea came into his mind.
"I know," he replied and headed towards the window.
The ladder just finished getting a few survivors on the ground before Chiba waved and got the attention from the other firefighters on the ground.
After getting on the ground after being rescued, Chiba sat you down in the ambulance for a quick check up.
"(Name), are you doing okay? You're lucky that I'm here!"
His worry only got stronger when you coughed a few times, before smiling at him, promising that you were fine.
"I'm not sure about that..."
"Chiba, I'm doing fine. It's just because of the smoke", you reassured him as he sat down beside you," and actually we are lucky that we got out of the building. Otherwise we would've been burned."
"Oh, yeah true." He blushed as you both stared at the burning building, waiting for the other firefighters to come out as he caught his breath.
He was happy he didn't lose you.
Kikuchi's expression immediately went to a cold one as he heard his boss talking in the firetruck. Some arsonists set a fire in a building and now it needs to be put out.
Arriving at the scene made his heart stop for a second: that's the exact same building you told him you would stay for a night.
After his boss told him what to do, he immediately went to rush into the building with a few other firefighters and made his way towards the upper floors. Luckily he remembered the number you told him and knocked on the door.
"(Name)! Are you in there?"
But he heard no response.
Kikuchi took a deep breath, trying to keep his cool before he kicked down the door, only to find you unconscious on the floor.
He picked you up and carried you in his arms towards the exit of the building towards the ambulance.
It may have only been a few minutes but for him, it felt like hours until you woke up again.
"(Name) are you doing alright?"
Looking up, you spotted a worried Kikuchi heading towards you.
"I'm feeling a little light-headed but otherwise yeah," you responded.
He sat down beside you as he offered you a water bottle.
You thanked him as you looked outside the ambulance to see the building destroyed and burned, smoke still rising in the air.
"Things have calmed down. When we get back to the station, you better rest or else you'll fall into my arms!"
"pff, even if I would faint, I'd still manage to avoid you," you teased back.
Muto's heart was beating rapidly.
The only words he remembered were "building on fire" and "Arsonists". It almost made him lose his cool.
Then it was mentioned where the building was.
It was the building you were staying in.
It all felt like Deja-vu to him.
Like how he lost his ex-girlfriend.
Arriving at the scene, he was tasked with guiding his team into the building and rescuing the people trapped inside.
Call him reckless, but while inside, he ordered that they should split into groups to search for survivors and they all went their own way.
While he immediately headed to your apartment and hammered against the door.
"(Name)! Are you in there?!", he shouted.
No, not a second time, he couldn't-
"Mu- *cough, cough* Muto!"
He recognized that voice instantly.
Somewhere inside the walls of smoke, you called for him.
"Shit...(Name)! Stay where you are! I'm coming!"
While he rushed towards your voice, the floor under him began to break down.
His eyes got darker as he looked down; his foot got stuck.
He looked up, his eyes squinting before he saw your silhouette in the smoke coming closer.
With a piece of fabric in front of your nose and mouth, you held onto him.
"Careful! I told you to stay-"
You kneeled down and helped him get his foot free again.
After succeeding, he immediately picked you up in his arms and got you out of the building, a few of his team already waiting.
Muto already knew that he may get a warning from his boss but it was worth it.
Especially now that he got to carry you to the nearest ambulance and knew that you were safe.
"I swear if I'll find that fucking arsonist, I'll pay the devil twice to torture him."
"I think that's the job of the police to find him", you answered him, " for now, your job is to put the fire out."
"That's-," he sighed," that's true."
Muto turned around to get back, but not without checking again to make sure you're fine.
He knows the moment he'd get his hands on that arsonist, it'll be a moment he'll always remember.
It was another fire alarm for him. He'd explain to his subordinates who does what while he stands and watches to make sure that everything goes according to plan.
But the moment he heard where the building is located- you know his heart stopped for a second.
It was the building you were staying at.
Hori decided to help rescue the other people in the building.
That's what he had told the others. It was actually to have him be the first to hold you in his arms.
While inside, he ordered everyone to walk forwards while he would search at a very specific area.
He headed straight to your apartment and knocked down the door.
He saw you in the corner of the room, holding your legs while your face was buried in your arms.
"(Name)!" You looked up to spot Hori walking towards you, kneeling down to your level.
"Don't worry, I'm here. Let's get out of here."
He picked you up in his arms and turned around, only to have the floor under him to collapse.
"Shit, that's bad", he cussed as he looked around, regaining his balance with you in his arms.
Scared, you looked around, snuggling closer to him.
He looked around, then decided to walk through the burning doorframe, when he spotted some of his subordinates in the back, walking towards the exit.
"Hey!", Hori called over, alerting them,"free the path!"
Without hesitation, they got to work and slowly but surely, you and Hori got out of the building.
He placed you down into an ambulance where a paramedic instantly placed a blanket over your shoulders.
"I'm glad you're doing okay, that was a close one," Hori said as he sat down beside you.
"True. Thank you, Hori, for rescuing me." You smiled as you offered to share the blanket with him.
"Of course. No problem", he replied and warped one half of the blanket around his shoulder, sliding closer to you and enjoying the warmth of your body.
The two of you watched the firefighters extinguishing the fire under Muto's command.
He was glad he got to save you.
Hori hid the little burn mark on his face under his hair.
He didn't want to worry you.
Matsui was usually a calm and collected soul, his desk was always organized.
When a co-worker brought another report, which stated that an arsonist set a building on fire, he paid no mind to that, telling the person to leave it on his desk.
The minute the door closed and he was alone again, he took his classes off and sighed.
"I guess I have to grab my keys and head to the building." Matsui thought as he grabbed the report and read it.
"The name of the building it's-"
Matsui didn't let his thoughts finish as he immediately grabbed his keys and walked out of his office, Co-workers turning their head, confused on what had gotten the loner so shaken up about.
"Shit. That's where (Name) stays at!"
He drove to the building and saw you sitting inside the ambulance, where paramedics already took care of you.
"(Name)!" You looked over to him as a paramedic finished bandaging your arm.
"Matsui! Don't worry! I'm- I'm doing fine! I just got a little injured when trying to escape-"
"Do you have any other wounds?"
Matsui touched your forehead before he took your hand and sat down beside you.
"No, that's the only wound... Don't worry, I'm fine." You sighed as you stared at the scene in front of you.
He still hasn't let go of your hand as he sits down beside you.
"Very well then. They're still not done with the fire. I still got some time," said Matsui.
"Can I search with you then?" You asked.
Others would call him out on that.
Him allowing others to work with him?
Normally he would decline.
