I made it to my three-day weekend and Iโm sipping a spicy margarita. This week was weird and wretched. If I think too closely about how last Summer was wild and exciting and full of promise, Iโll scream or weep or set shit on fire. My birthday is approaching so I keep buying books, not that I need my birthday as an excuse, mind you.
So. I acquired Otomen, this goofy af series by Aya Kanno, who did Requiem for the Rose King my beloved, an historical manga about Richard III. Itโs epic and unusual so I thought, Iโll give this series a try. The title is a Japanese-English portmanteau. Otome means โmaidenโ. Itโs about men who like โgirlyโ things. The protagonist falls in love with a very butch girl, good at kendo, raised by her tough cop dad, does not like 'girly' things, horrible at cooking et cetera.
There's some weird punk character with hair falling in his face who is obsessed with flowers and who chooses flowers over a date/spending time with people. He graffitis flowers all over things. ๐ I took a peek and it all looks extremely silly. I am so here for it.
Also, scintillating and unexpected bonus, all of the covers are over the top and decked out in the most appalling shade of pink. ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐๐๐๐
This is going to be great. I need some fucking levity.
