A Letter from Gavin

You finally discover what was written in that blood-stained letter that Gavin had given you in high school.

Hi,

I’ve noticed you around in school, but I’m not sure you know who I am.  So if you don’t mind, I'd like to first introduce myself.

My name is Gavin Bai, and I’m a senior, a couple grades ahead of you.  Minor is an acquaintance a friend of mine.  You probably know him; a bit on the shorter side with a high-pitched voice, kind of clingy and annoying?  He mentioned he is in your class.

Anyway, I’m sorry if this letter comes off strange — I can promise you my intentions are anything but!  I've never really been one for words and I guess it shows.  Every time I see you in the hallways or at the school gates, I really want to speak to you but always lose my nerve at the last minute.  Would you laugh at me if I told you my hands are shaking even as I write this letter?  Please don’t tell anyone.

If my reputation at school precedes me, then I’m sure you'll find that hard to believe, but it's all true.  I've never felt the need or desire to explain my actions to anyone before, but even if the entire world misunderstands me, I want you to know who I really am.  I’m aware I’m not the mild-mannered prince that girls dream of being with, but I am also not one to instigate fights without reason.  I hate seeing people bully others, and I would rather die before I cower in fear before another.  You may not want to read about all the details here, but just know that whatever you wish to know, I am willing to tell you, for however long it takes.  If you don’t mind spending that time with me, that is.

I guess what I really wanted to say is…thank you.  From the bottom of my heart.  If I didn't write this letter, you might never know how you saved me.  You and your beautiful piano music.  At a very dark time in my life, just when the last bits of hope had slipped from my grasp, your music gave me the wings to fly.  That moment may not have been anything out of the ordinary for you, but it gave me new life.

But how best to thank your saviour when you can’t even work up the courage to smile at her?  All I can offer you is my honest truth.

I’ve never felt this way before, but if I had to name this feeling, it could only be love.  Not the gentle affection existing between friends, but a yearning desire so strong it wracks my heart and body with desperation.  I close my eyes and see your face, wet with rain beneath the cover of my jacket. And when all is silent in the dead of night, the strains of your piano haunt me still.

I know in the eyes of many, I am a person of suspicion, someone to be feared.  The scars on my fists and bruises on my face only add to the prejudice I experience on a daily basis.  Being with me could very well make your life more difficult.  For that, and other reasons, I am sorry:

Sorry for my weakness — for failing to forget about you despite trying time and time again.

Sorry for being selfish — for wanting you for myself despite knowing that things might be hard for you.

Sorry for stubbornly persisting in the hope that you could find it in yourself to love someone like me.

I guess what I’m trying to say is…would you be my girl?

👶 — Advice for new writers.

To be honest, I still have so much to learn and improve on! Over time, I’ve come to realize that writing is a constant process of honing our abilities. I’m not an expert, but below are a few tips I’ve learned from my writing journey so far.

Read. If you’d like to get better at writing in a certain genre, reading works in that genre and doing research about it will help you a lot.

Writing opens up infinite possibilities for you. As much as possible, try not to limit yourself to one thing. Play around with different styles and find out what you like and what works best for you.

For editing, I recommend using Grammarly and Hemingway Editor. I also like using a text-to-speech application during the final round of the process. It helps a lot in spotting missing articles, repetitive words, awkward phrases, and the like.

In terms of skill improvement, what helps me the most is making writing into a habit. Committing to a regular writing schedule, even if I’m only able to put a few hundred words on Google Docs per session, works wonders for me.

BUT! If there are times when you can’t find it in you to write, don’t feel guilty about not doing it! It’s supposed to be more fun than stressful. Take breaks, if you need to, and come back whenever you’re ready. (ꈍᴗꈍ)

🔍 — Does anyone in your personal life know that you write on Tumblr?

Yes! The person who got me into writing fanfiction is one of my best friends in real life. We brainstorm about our WIPs and proofread each other’s works whenever we have the chance. She’s always so supportive of my writing, even though she’s not a part of the fandoms I’m in. I’m very grateful to her. 💜

Hi dear!!! Thank you for your "burning" questions 🤣❤. Did you know that in my many, many years of being active on Tumblr, this was one of the first Asks I've ever gotten?! 🤣 I don't know if I'm intimidating or aloof but this whole Ask thing is still unfamiliar to me as the day I started this blog since I've never had many Asks during my Tumblr career so hope I'm... using this thing correctly! 😨😅 Super long answers incoming:

1. What inspired me to write fanfics?! Hmm... So I actually wrote kpop fanfics long time ago, in my middle/high school days with my bestie and we would be the MCs and the hot boys of Dong Bang Shin Ki were our love interests 🤣. This was before the rest of the world even knew of kpop, really. We wrote multi-chaptered, epic stories on scraps of paper, exchange diaries, and on FLOPPY DISKS. I still have the physical copies of few, rare chapters but the floppy disk ones are gone when my disks just stopped working one day 😭😭😭 sad, sad loss... These were never published online and also completely written in Korean haha.

(TVXQ/DBSK will forever have a special place in my heart as my forever oppas, despite... scandals and fallouts in recent times. They were legends of their time, almost the founding fathers of modern kpop I'd say.)

There was a period when I wrote and published a jpop fic for a group called LEAD... wow, that sure takes me back. I don't even remember where I posted that (some jpop forum), what the title was, or if it is still floating around somewhere but yea, it happened.

(Akira Kagimoto, on the left, is whom I had wrote a story for?! It was super angsty too, I rememeber 🤣🤣🤣 My young ass was so wild. I don't even remember why I wrote it since my favorite was absolutely Keita Furuya [middle]... 🤔)

Erm, other than this, I didn't consider myself a writer nor wanted to create anything until I played Samurai Love Ballad Party and that game got me so, so hooked that I started devouring fics (cough, smut) religiously and then opening up and actually befriending writer friends made me more confident in trying out writing myself. I think I just really wanted to write a threesome/foursome for Hideyoshi, Kiyomasa, and Masanori 🤣. My thirst was REAL. I tested out my abilities by writing the Inuchiyo T-rated fic and then I just went for the threesome, when I was like hmm maybe I’m not too shabs 🤣. 

2. Which works am I particularly proud of?! *Checks myself on AO3* Apparently I wrote 21 stories so far! Woohoo! 

Helping Hands  is definitely a special one for me, which started me off on smut-writing in general! As mentioned above, I just really wanted to bang all 3 guys (at the same time?!) and I made it happen and I’m super proud of myself for what I created! 🥰

Alone Again is just... words can’t describe how special that one is to me! Even now, whenever I think of Ieyasu and that MC, my heart just... :’) It makes me smile a very, very bitter smile. Why do I like to HURT so badly?! 😅

3. My favorite Kdrama of all time?!?!?! OMG girl, I have seen SO many Kdramas in my lifetime haha. I would say, in terms of more recent ones, I have to give it up to:

Because This Is My First Life. This drama, I cannot say enough good things about! It’s on Netflix now so I want everyone to check it out, please!!! It’s just so, so good! Ever since I watched this drama, I went on a 2 year+ hiatus on Kdramas because... I don’t know. I felt like nothing could ever top this for me, haha. And I’m STILL in that kdrama slump! I just can never forget this masterpiece! 

It’s about two strangers getting married (fake) for differing reasons relating to housing, like familial pressure/societal pressure/wanting to live with a roommate whom they will never fall for (HA!). 

Lee Minki is just amazing as the male lead and Jung So Min is ADORABLE here. I can’t recommend it enough, seriously! 

Another drama I wanna throw out here is called Wedding, featuring Jang Nara and Ryu Siwon! This one is one of my ABSOLUTE favorites that I come back to time and time again! It’s crazy because I feel like it’s not that popular and no one ever talks about it (in Korea or International!) but I really like it! My mom thinks it was rather boring (?!) which I don’t really get but I guess I’m just special then. It’s about a stoic but genuine/smart guy who meets a cheerful, sweet-yet-ditzy girl through marriage set-up and they get married! It’s about their relationship progressing. Things develop rather slowly but seeing them holding hands, becoming husband/wife, then angsttttt central... I just really love this drama! There is no “villain/villainess” in this drama, which I think makes people think it’s on the boring side. I don’t mind it at all because we use all 20 episodes seeing their love develop! 

It’s a bit on the older side, 2005, but I watch clips of this drama all the time to this day XD. It’s a classic for me, at least!
