I took my niece to a pool/splash park with water slides yesterday, and the first few times I went down the slides with her, no one said anything about my glasses.
We lined up again later, and a different staff member was there. She told me I had to remove my glasses to go on the slide with my niece.
Without my glasses, I am, for all intents and purposes, blind. I can see splotches of color and vague shapes, but I cannot see clearly past four inches. I explained to the staff member that I need my glasses to see, and she reiterated that I had to take them off or I couldn't go on the water slide, and that they preferred no glasses, hats, or hair clips in the pool at all.
I get that they don't want foreign objects in the pool, but my glasses fit snugly so they don't fall off, because I CANNOT SEE WITHOUT THEM. They ARE a disability aide.
I unhappily stepped aside, and told my niece to go on her own, because I wouldn't even be able to see the stairs to climb.
It was just really disappointing I guess? That needing glasses and having vision issues isn't seen as a disability, and glasses and contacts aren't considered aides. This pool has a ramp with a handrail, and seats in the water for the elderly, pregnant people, people who need mobility aides, and just general use, but I was essentially told to remove my eyes if I wanted to use the pool and it's amenities.
