Rant
In the light of recent events in the capital of Canada, namely Ottawa, the Muslim-Canadian community has expressed their fear of the reaction from fellow Canadians after the shootings that took place and killed Cpl. Nathan Cirillo. I find it completely heartbreaking that they are afraid of the backlash they will receive from Canadians, as a lot of people around the globe will generalize this situation, and the stereotypes will be even more perpetuated. I don't blame their fear as a lot of Canadians, from what I've observed on social media, seem to be very racist and plain rude to any people who are part of a visible minority community. They found their opinions on generalization which leads to a lot of ignorance and discrimination on their part (of course, I am not saying that ALL Canadians are like this, just a few who like to share their unfounded and racist views on social media whenever a story involves a group other than mainstream Canadians). Anyways, the only thing I can hope is that members of the Muslim-Canadian community will be SAFE, and won't be the victims of discrimination, racism, or even attacks from Canadians. This is a time where UNITY is needed, it is not a time to point fingers to try and find someone on who to blame these events, especially since we know the shooter acted ALONE. We need to remember that, like they have mentioned, this person or these events that transpired in Canada this week DOES NOT represent the Islam religion. It is a MINORITY of people who commit acts of terrorism.
