Louis isn't as lost in ruminations as Harry is, smirking. “Is this all the recording is? Giggling and classical piano? No wonder you've not got any song ideas.” Harry has to physically restrain himself from playfully shoving at Louis, curling his hand into a fist under his leg, and says instead, “Hey, this was your idea.” Louis shrugs, smiling, and makes a move to turn the tape off when Harry’s voice suddenly starts singing, actual English words forming sentences.

You had me at Thames River!

Part of Smile at the Ground is spent near the Thames River and I live near a Thames River (fate calling). I was hopeful that I would be able to choose this story. In case you are curious my Thames River is in Canada.

“Do you miss us?” Louis asks suddenly, yanking Harry violently from his memories, realising with a start the song had ended a while ago and Louis had already pocketed his phone again. Harry blinks furiously, trying to keep his eyes dry. His heart twists painfully and angrily, and Harry wants to scream, how dare you ask that question, you were the one that didn’t want to fight for us, but he doesn’t dare say a thing because it wasn’t just Louis, Harry was at fault too, and Harry thinks if he talks he won’t ever stop. Louis is still looking at Harry, an unreadable expression.

“Of course.” Harry whispers, and tries very hard not to cry. He isn’t successful, and ducks his head, hearing the shuffling of Louis getting up from the ground and shoving his hands into his pocket. Out of the corner of his eye Harry can see the hints of dawn creeping in and he sighs heavily, forehead leaning on his knees.
