The Odinkirks are 'Master Peasants'; Middle class, land owning farmers and riding instructors. In Wilhelmian Germany, a Master Peasant was the lowest social rank eligible for a (Military) commission. While in Edwardian Britain, it was only really possible for a member of the middle class to obtain a commission if he joined the navy, our army had a more rigid class structure.
