Hi! Don’t you think there’s a difference between OOC behavior and behavior that’s terrible as part of a story? I see people just waiting for Rumbelle newbies to discover how terrible things become, how OOC, but IMO many of the things we saw in S4 A and especially 6A were part of the story. The point was that Rumple was not his real self, either addicted to magic/power as in 4, or almost completely overwhelmed by Darkness in 6A. He did thoughtless and terrible things to Belle that he’s never do
ordinarily, but that was the point - he was deliberately OOC to get him to 6B. The one thing I truly think was way out of bounds and which Rumple would never do in any circumstances was GQ.
I actually almost totally agree with this, yes. There were very few things that were truly out of character for Rumple throughout the entire series. GQ was the most eggregious and at this point they’ve all but admitted it was fanservice. I’ve just drawn a line through it and moved on. It was a handful of scenes and it really didn’t matter in the grand scheme.
I think the reason that so much of the later seasons felt OOC (but weren’t really IMO) was that the writing didn’t support the transition enough from where Rumple was when he came back from Neverland through to the end of season 4. We didn’t get to see the slow build of all the trauma he’d been through, of his imprisonment with Zelena, Neal being stuck in his head and driving him insane, and then the death of Neal on top of all of that. We just saw the end result which was a guy who was not coping well and was making bad decisions to try not to feel so powerless anymore and to protect the one person he had left that he loved. The story kinda jumped right and it left a lot of fans questioning and wanting more. That’s the fault of the writers for having half seasons of storylines instead of one overall arc. I think that’s also why I like S6 so much, GQ nonsense aside, because it was much more cohesive end to end and the way Rumbelle worked back towards each other and towards a happy ending was lovely.
I’ve ranted about all this before, but fandom in general, all fandoms, need to understand the differences between plot holes, bad writing, and OOC characters, and shit you just don’t like. I’m over this type of fandom wank and bashing any show writers for these things when there’s much bigger fish to fry. Like if these things are your shows only real problem, good for you.
