Bukhoor or Bakhoor (Arabic بخور) is the Arabic name given to scented chips or a blend of natural traditional ingredients, usually woodchips (the less expensive Oudh wood chips are used) soaked in fragrant oils and mixed with other natural ingredients (resin, ambergris, musk, sandalwood, essential oils and others). These scented chips/bricks are burned in charcoal or incense burners to fill the house with a fragrant aroma and is the think smoke is also used on clothing (may stain light colored clothes). This is sometimes used on special occasions like weddings, for relaxation or for tranquility, Bakhoors are also burned to boost the positive energy in a home.
The Bukhoor is usually burned in a traditional incense burner called Mabkhara (has many other names in other countries), using charcoal of wood or manufactured charcoal discs/briquettes. But many people nowadays use electrical incense burners because they are faster and safer to use. A lot of people still prefer to use charcoal because it\'s traditional, natural and burns Bakhoor better. The Mabkhara can be of simple wood or has fancy decorations like the ones found on our website, so that they can be used as room ornament when not in use.
Shaghaf Oud Aswad is as complex as it is beautiful, just like the feelings of passion which inspired its creation.
Shaghaf Oud Aswad is an oriental, woody, oud fragrance that opens with an accord of floral, woody notes, and a touch of prized saffron. The anticipation builds with a gradual blossoming of its complex heart. Combining the heady petals of rose and jasmine with earthy patchouli and spices, each scented footstep leads to the golden prize. The unique fragrance of agarwood starts to emerge through flowers, spices and woods, building towards a sensual and warm finish. The agarwood invites warm, leathery notes and cozy amber, reflecting the sunbeams of this summer’s day. Like the sun across a broad horizon, the oud encompasses all and wraps you in its cloak of pure gold.
Shaghaf Oud Aswad is a unisex scent ideal for summer daytime.
This is the moment. This is the passion. This is the scent.
Bakhoor Muattar Angham - for Personal and Home Fragrance
Bakhoor has been a necessity in almost every Arabian home for centuries now. It is believed to have initially been used by the nomadic Levantine tribes who burnt agarwood chips (the base ingredient of bakhoor) to perfume their surrounding, and to cover up the smell of cooking. It was also believed by some to ward off bad luck. Even now, many strongly believe that the sacred aroma of bakhoor can keep away jinn and attract angels, as it has a cleansing, purifying, and healing effect.
Middle Eastern women carry bakhoor burners through their homes to spread the fragrance, which lingers in carpets, curtains, and other fabrics. Both men and women stand over the burners to allow the smoke to perfume their clothing and hair, as the bakhoor selection is a way to express one's self through fragrance, mixing and matching multiple scents according to season, whim, or social occasion. A favorite blend is commonly gifted during casual gatherings as a gesture of hospitality.
Bakhoor is an essential part of the culture of Arabia, and its sweet smell is addictive. Many even believe that the smoke instills positive energy, helping to improve one’s mood and spark creativity. Swiss Arabia, through social media, offers lots of advice on how to bring this ancient smell into your home. On offer are starter kits with an Electric burner for those who wish to try it for the first time.
