They were pulling up to the café “Give me coffee or give me death,” now deserted after its owner had left.
Aziraphale fidgeted with the ring on his pinky, trying to look forward, out the window—anywhere but at Crowley’s eyes. The fate of the world was in their hands again, and this time they would hardly get away so easily—Aziraphale knew it. Crowley knew it too. But the note they had been forced to part on last time was still playing on the strings of their souls. Yet it was no longer being played with the care and delicacy of an experienced musician, but with the sharpness and stubbornness of an inexperienced beginner. Tension hung over them like a silent cloud, one they—at least for now—could not dispel.
When Crowley pressed the gas pedal especially hard, Aziraphale pressed back into his seat and grabbed the handle, while his heart froze in his chest. And yet it reminded him so much of the good old days. Aziraphale would never have thought he would say this, but he really missed Crowley’s insane driving style.
Crowley, too, missed the angel’s constant grumbling about it. Especially since now he was painfully silent. But hell would freeze over before he ever admitted that.
Suddenly, the speed dropped sharply to something reasonable, the interior seemed significantly smaller and brighter (?), and the control system… was something not to be looked at without tears.
But the most surprising and strange thing—there were suddenly two ice cream cones in the glove compartment.
Crowley raised a sharp, questioning look at Aziraphale, who for the first time in a while looked back at him—with no less confusion.
Crowley parked and got out of the car, followed by Aziraphale. And Crowley felt like he had been electrocuted—his precious Bentley had turned into a damn yellow with tartan pattern, old-fashioned Citroen!
— It wasn’t me, — Aziraphale quickly said awkwardly, feeling Crowley’s unreadable stare on him and holding the unexpected ice cream cone.
— Angel, for anybody's sssssake… — Crowley hissed through clenched teeth.
— Crowley, would I be doing something like this right now?! — Aziraphale almost swore, already on edge, gripping his favorite ice cream tighter. — I dare suggest this is the work of either Adam or Jesus.
Crowley looked at him again, sighed, then glanced at the transformed “Bentley” and grimaced slightly.
— What a twisted imagination that kid has. A Citroen? Yellow? Tartan pattern? Seriously?
— Tartan is stylish, — Aziraphale noted carefully.
The demon couldn’t suppress a faint, barely noticeable smirk from a sense of déjà vu.
— The world really is going mad. We’d better hurry. Get in, angel.
Aziraphale nodded, and while Crowley was getting back into the car, he gently ran his hand over the "Bentley's" roof, a soft tenderness in his gaze. A thought flashed through his mind—“Pretty…”—before he got back inside.
Aziraphale: So, I thought I might pop up there myself and investigate!
Crowley: Fair enough. What time's your train?
Aziraphale: Actually I rather thought I might take the car.
Crowley: What car?
Aziraphale: Our car.
Crowley: We don't have a car.
Aziraphale: Of course we do. Isn't she a beauty?
I FOUND MY NEW HEADCANON FOR S3 OF GOOD OMENS
“He did say he liked yellow.”
I need The Bentley to turn into “OUR CAR”. I NEED THIS TO HAPPEN. JUST IMAGINE THE BENTLEY DOING THIS OUT OF SHEER SPITE. THE BEIGE INTERIOR AND BEIGE WHEELS. THE YELLOW DOORS. THE GOLDEN YELLOW HOOD ORNAMENT. I NEED THIS SO BADLY.
-Constantly drives him back to Whickber Street and Azi’s bookshop
-Objects Azi owns unexplainably start turning up randomly in the car (even better if they are from other time periods)
-Bentley stops taking orders from Crowley
-only plays songs about love that are scarily accurate to Azi and Crowley’s dynamic
THIS CAR WILL NOT LET HIM FORGET AZIRAPHALE. IT IS GOING TO ACT LIKE A STUBBORN CHILD. I NEED THIS BENTLEY TO ACT LIKE A TODDLER.
“Demon Dad is mad at Angel Dad, but Demon Dad loves him still. Guess he needs to be reminded of him then.”
I NEED A FANFIC THAT BRINGS IN THE ELEMENT OF THE BENTLEY HEARING THEIR EVERY CONVO IN THAT CAR WHILE DRIVING, and it is going to use it on Crowley.
Almost like it is trying to shake him and telling him not to forget. BECAUSE IT FEELS THEIR LOVE STILL.
I NEED FANFICTION. OH MY GOD. 😫😭
(If someone writes a fic about my headcanon, PLEASE TAG ME. I’D LOVE TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE COME UP WITH! WHETHER IT IS FANART, A FANFIC, OR WHATEVER ELSE YOUR HEART DESIRES, I WILL PERSONALLY LOVE EACH OF THEM.🫶🏼😊)
So, I made a silly little post a while ago about how cute it was that Aziraphale suddenly wanted to take the Bentley after waiting 90 years to drive here. But since I wrote it, I watched the episode again, and suddenly a few things started to fall into place.
Aziraphale being so desperate to take the Bentley always struck me as kind of strange. Like, he's spent 90 years of Crowley driving around and has never asked to drive before. Why right now? Crowley seems as surprised by the request... he's not taking the train? He loves trains!
And then... it hit me. He's going to Edinburgh.
The last time he went to Edinburgh, his worst nightmare came true. Crowley got pulled down to Hell to face punishment for his acts of kindness.
And now, Aziraphale is going back there. The circumstances are completely different, of course, but I'm certain that he remembers vividly losing Crowley. He would want to make sure that Crowley is safe and out of Hell's reach while he's gone.
But with him out of London, how can he make sure that his demon is safe? The Bentley is now not only Crowley's car, but also where he's living now that he got kicked out of his apartment, so most of his time is spent there. Aziraphale is probably aware of this, but he also knows that the demons can get to Crowley in the car. Beelzebub entered the Bentley without permission, as did Hastur in season 1.
But the bookshop is safe. Only Aziraphale can give permission to enter the shop (Crowley seems to have permanent permission because he can now come at will). So, he takes the Bentley, and asks Crowley to watch over Jimbriel in the bookshop, in the one place that he will be completely safe.
Now all Crowley has to deal with is an amnesiac archangel! What could possibly go wrong?
What do you think Aziraphale was doing in this scene?
Was he hiding as he waited for Crowley? Or was he talking to the Bentley?
I like to think he was asking the Bentley if it was okay to drive her to Edinburgh. Only if the Bentley was okay with Aziraphale driving her, only then he'd tell Crowley he planned on taking "our car".
Thoughts?
