As Evening Falls

A birthday poem and art for @the-ineffable-dance

As evening falls in velvet, warm and slow, and candlelight turns all the bookshop gold, as loosened hair like embers freely flows beneath an angel's gentle hand, controlled,

“You've done so well,” he murmurs, low and sure— a benediction breathed against the dark— “Now rest, my love, there's naught else to endure,” so shoulders tremble as words find their mark.

No war to win, no summons at the door, no ancient fear to drag these two apart; just tea gone cold, and clothes upon the floor, and one soft voice undoing one proud heart.

And there we leave them to the life they've sown— each one, at last, both knower and the known.

I Can No Longer Keepe Me From My Lord

Summary: Aziraphale is in the court of Edward II when a familiar face arrives.

He's turned down the king's advances until now.

But this time, the offer is more difficult to refuse.

Excerpt:

The king was bored.

This was not a hugely unusual occurrence; Edward II was not the most politically engaged of monarchs. He preferred his diversions of music and art to serious work, and while Aziraphale could certainly sympathise with the king's point of view, it did make his own job rather more difficult.

He was supposed to be encouraging His Grace towards the light. But while Edward needed little encouragement to attend services, and his faith seemed not to waver, his behaviour outside of the Palace chapel still left something to be desired.

It had been hoped—by Aziraphale as well as most of the court—that with his…friend Piers Gaveston away in Ireland, Edward might have settled down to the serious business of ruling. But instead, the king was restless. Fractious. His wife, Isabella, was still a child, and while he had entertained several mistresses, he had quickly grown bored with them all.

And so, over the last few weeks, Edward's attention had landed on Aziraphale.

I currently have 88 fics on AO3, every one of them written post-season 2 of Good Omens.

A couple of weeks ago, I thought to myself, 'wouldn't it be cool if that number was exactly 100 when the finale airs?' (I like round numbers, okay?)

I realised that the number of fics I would need was exactly the number of days in May before the air date.

I could not let this thought go.

I asked my friends to talk me out if it. They did the opposite 🤣 (I love you all).

SO.

Starting tomorrow, May 1st 2026, I will be posting one (1) fic of 666 words every day until the 12th, ready for us all to be broken and remade on the 13th.

These might be anything in my general wheelhouse: smut, fluff, historical, canon, South Downs future, human AU.

They will *not* have any spoilers based on the promo for S3, so if you've been avoiding that there will be nothing here to ruin that for you.

Is this possibly madness? Yes, but I'm doing it anyway. 🤣

PLEASE explain the Latin fuck words. for science

Okay so. The Romans think that sex doesn't count as real sex unless Someone Is Getting Penetrated By A Dick Or Dick-Adjacent Object. Very sort of dick-centric system.

So Latin has six words for "to fuck", divided into three pairs: one pair for each of the possible Holes (ass, mouth, pussy). In each pair there is a word for topping and a word for bottoming.

Most people who know a little about Latin fuck verbs know 'pedicare' and 'irrumare' from the first line of Catullus 16 (Pēdīcābō ego vōs et irrumābō), which is a poem about saying "absolutely shut the fuck up and piss all the way off" to fandom antis and purity police who are making repulsive accusations about you personally, based on things they're reading into your work from a bad-faith perspective. Catullus was so real for that and it's incredibly endearing to me that he was dealing with the same thing we are still dealing with. I got a hater in my askbox doing this about The Wisdom of Emperors just the other day, but I took the high road and, unlike Catullus, did not tell them "I will assfuck you and I will facefuck you" So here sort of a chart about the verbs: Topping | Bottoming Mouth: irrumare | fellare Ass: pedicare | cevere Cunt: futuere | crisare

Another fun fact related to the fuck verbs was that the Romans didn't think about sexual orientation in terms of who you're attracted to, they thought about it in terms of "which is your favorite hole and what do you like to do with it." So you'll get graffiti (ancient roman subtweeting) about things like "Marcus is a fututor [cunt-fucker] and a pedico [ass-fucker] but omg girlies I also heard he's a fellator [cock-sucker] 👀👀👀👀" In the modern day we'd just call him bisexual, but in Ancient Rome it is not enough to know if someone is bisexual (they think it's kind of perverted if a man only fucks women, like do you have some kind of freaky pussy fetish???? you've never once even fucked a twink??? dat's gay, bro. gay to not be bi), you also have to know if he's being bisexual in a respectable sort of way

You will notice that pussy-eating is not on this list, because those words do not mean "to fuck", they translate more directly to just "pussy-licking" (cunnilingus), and because the Romans are sexist as all hell and think that's gross and filthy anyway. This is not ONLY because of pussy terror, it's also that the mouth is the most sacred part of the body -- so eating pussy or sucking a dick is actually considered slightly more "shameful" than getting fucked in the ass. (Please note as well that the fuck verbs are gender neutral -- if you're a roman man and your girlfriend owns a strap-on, she can [pedicare] you. but be careful because your sworn enemy in the forum will have a fucking FIELD DAY if he hears about that and will write a Mean Poem about you or subtweet you on a public wall)

The moral of this story is that the Ancient Romans were absolutely *GAGGING* for social media (see Martial's Epigrams, aka My Best Tweets), and the second moral of this story is that if this was a fun post for you, you should look at my kickstarter for alllllll of this kind of nonsense in the form of A Fantasy Novel That's Pretending To Be An Academic Paper With A Fake Bibliography And Foonotes aka The Wisdom of Emperors. Oh Beautiful Release

It has been FAR too long since the last part of this series, but FINALLY!! Here it is! The newest part of my AziraFer series, Dark Principality!

Title: Oh Beautiful Release

Summary: With Crowley intruding on Lucifer's interlude with Aziraphale, the time has come for the three of them to finally work things out. But though Aziraphale insists Crowley isn't there to fight, tempers quickly begin to rise... and so do their passions.

Excerpt:

Lucifer stood in the center of the bedroom on the first floor of the bookshop, his hands held firmly in Aziraphale’s while his eyes were locked on the demon standing in the doorway. Crowley stood, arms braced against the wooden frame and glinting amber eyes uncovered as he took in the sight of his boss, king of Hell, the great adversary, Aziraphale’s paramour.

“Crowley.” Aziraphale smiled at him but didn’t move from where he stood next to the archdemon. “Why don’t you give us a moment, dear boy. I really ought to explain a few things. It must be terribly confusing, isn’t it?”

“Confusing,” Lucifer echoed, his eyes darting between them while his mind tried desperately to understand what was happening.

“I’ll just go put the kettle on then, shall I?” Crowley sneered, but there was pity in his expression as he turned and began clanging his way down the spiral staircase. There was nothing that could have infuriated Lucifer more.

Watch your language!

Now that the auction is over and your mods have slept for a week, we'd like to remind you to be mindful of how you talk about FTH when posting your completed fanworks to AO3.

Commercial promotion is not permitted on AO3, which their TOS defines as "promotion, solicitation, and advertisement of commercial products or activities." Even though FTH is an event that promotes donations for non-profits with fanworks gifted in return, talking about this with the wrong language could result in a warning, your fanwork being made private, or even suspension of your AO3 account. This is not just us being cautious. People have sent us real warning emails from AO3. You should read the Content Terms of Service and the relevant portions of the TOS FAQ (Especially on commercial promotion examples and charity drives) and make sure you're familiar with what they say.

Please note:

We have gotten further clarification from AO3 on some terminology that we'd thought was okay, but that they consider to fall under commercial promotion! You should also check your previous FTH works for any of these terms!

The Heart in the Woods

Summary:

The people of Aziraphale's village look at the woods with fear, and bolt their doors with iron at night, for there are things that lurk between the trees.

But some people never heed the warnings, and there is more to the woods than darkness.

Excerpt:

Now, Aziraphale was not a disobedient child, and had his mother thought to tell him to remain within the garden walls, no doubt he would have done so. But she was busy, as always, and mistakenly thought that the whispered warnings and common sense would keep her son in place.

To an adult, perhaps, the woods might have looked dark and ominous, but to a seven-year-old boy they were a treasure trove of new sights and sounds, and it was scarcely ten minutes after his mother closed the back door that he was climbing clumsily over the wall.
