When you read the Den of Geek article, did you tear up when it was 'assumed' that S11 would be the last XFiles season? I did. I mean, I always thought that to be the case. But it's in official print now and David and Gillian are recognizing that this is probably the last. I'm getting emotional thinking about all the lasts that this would mean: last filming together, last promotional events together, last Mulder and Scully together. I don't know if they'll ever work together again
I guess I have been assuming that too, that it’s the last season…although you never know. Honestly, my feelings about XF in the modern era are so damn mixed, and we’ve heard so many contradictory things, that it’s hard for me to have a full emotional reaction in one direction or another about that idea. I’ve already had all possible emotional reactions, haha.
Gillian was telling everyone that it was the last one LAST time, with varying degrees of force, and it seemed to depend on where the contract negotiations were sitting at that moment. I wouldn’t quite call this official – I don’t think it’s official until CC says it, or Fox does. I can see a scenario where David and Gillian “assume” it’s the last season, and then Fox throws more money at them and they don’t have a compelling reason to say no. So I don’t necessarily take that as full confirmation that there will be no more.
I think I basically didn’t have that strong a reaction to that statement because (a) it really doesn’t say much as far as whether it’s truly over or not and (b) I don’t have a good handle on where I’m at as far as how sad to be about it if it is in fact over.
I mean – I will always want more. IT’S IN MUH BLOOD. But there would also be a certain…restfulness in knowing that it was time to move to a new chapter of my XF lovin’.
If we ever DO get confirmation that it is totally done – which, let me remind everyone: we NEVER HAVE; ever since Season 9 ended we’ve been told that a movie or whatever was just around the bend and to keep “believing” – I will, indeed, be super sad and I will cry and it will be a weird time. (I sort of have pre-experienced that as well, when GA gave that interview saying she was pretty sure it was done, last winter I guess it was. That felt real to me, and I was like “Well, fuck” and went through a grieving process, and then we got an 11th season after all.) (And trust me, I am NOT complaining about that fact.)
My HOPE is that if/when we learn that it’s really over, Mulder and Scully will be in a good place. And so, my fervent hope is that that will be the case at the end of these 10 episodes. I wouldn’t have felt OK about saying goodbye to Mulder and Scully after S10. I hope it will feel easier at the end of S11.
As far as lasts – if they stop doing XF, I would be surprised if they NEVER did any promotional or whatnot stuff together again. Some part of them will always be Mulder and Scully, anon!
