You sound reasonable and I hope you don't mind me asking this because I don't know many blogs who will answer, but the post Gillian put out Mom and Dad, Do you think it is ref to TXF? And do you think she should have put some # 's like XFiles or William or something? I think it's feeding the fire sometimes , it's just that some crazies are now claiming D and G have children together ffs, it's so fucked up sometimes

I think it’s most likely that it is indeed a reference to XF, in particular the pregnancy that we know she was a little less than complimentary about and has made a few sarcastic references to. Or it could also be just a general “look at us old folks, it’s like a picture of your parents” kind of a thing -- that’s also a theme she seems to get a kick out of. As usual it’s hard to tell because, Gillianese. 

I wouldn’t classify this as “feeding the fire” in this case. “David, do you want to say something? ...He’s in the shower. *trollface*” is feeding the fire. Saying you’re dating “Chewbacca” and not immediately shutting it down when fans get all wink-wink-nudge-nudge speculating that “Chewbacca” means David (and bring that repeatedly to your attention) is feeding the fire. “I’m with Schmoopie” is, arguably, feeding the fire. Not explicitly stating in a photo with your costar that jokily captioning it “Mom and Dad” is not in fact a coded reference to the fact that you and this costar secretly have 1-3 children together, and you secretly want the world to know...or not the world, just you, very specially observant fans that have cleverly puzzled out the real shit...but you can’t say anything because your fake boyfriend will go on a rampage like he did that time with the fish fingers and if that happens you’ll be out of your lucrative Netflix contract that you’re only doing because you’re a bad feminist and you’ve lost your way, is not feeding the fire. That is a case of “there have always been people like this in the fandom, unfortunately, and there always will be, and they’ll always find something, so let us decline to cater to them.” 

You didn’t ask this but I also don’t think it’s a reference to the Monique situation, even though it’s tempting to wonder if that is the case, considering that Gillian does literally have a child of that age. :] Just a bit of a Gillian-typical unfortunately-resonant-in-a-way-she-did-not-intend word choice, in my opinion.

I hope Gillian is doing or has done whatever processing she needs to do about whatever she needs to. Who knows, maybe she did it a long time ago.

10000% the most annoying thing about the whole david and gillian relationship fascination is when you’re like hmmm. okay I don’t care them anymore whatever I’m done.... they collectively sense and are just like EXCUSE US you’re not leaving this hell and grab me by the throat and push me back into my deep dark hole of delusion and constant confusion

There have been diminishing returns for me on that lately, I admit. But they’ve still got that old black magic, it can’t be denied. I hope they always do.

Is that New York Times interview the first time David (or Tea) has confirmed what aysf ring tattoo stood for? Seen it around the fandom but thought it was a good guess as they always said it was a secret. Just wondering where the journalist did their research as some of the confirm or deny questions (do you socialise?) could have come from some here 😳😂

I think so! I’m pretty sure it was always a mystery (to us I mean). The answer seems pretty obvious in retrospect, which makes me wonder why it was a secret, haha. I think I expected it to be some inside sex joke. 

Also, the “do you socialize” thing is kinda funny...on a few levels...Maureen Dowd mentions having called DD “the first internet sex symbol with hair” in...1995...which I actually remember; it was back when the only other internet sex symbol was Patrick Stewart of course because there had been only two TV shows since the internet had been invented (I’m almost not kidding), and the “do you and Gillian socialize” question is KIND OF a 1995-era-type question. And if this were a year and a half ago I would laugh and be like “oh Maureen Dowd, where have you been?” BUT, now that we have had “our kids have never met” and “I don’t really know him,” it feels like this innocent possibly-based-on-1995-information question may actually be relevant again! The pendulum has swung. Anyway, let’s just say that when David said he and Gillian had had between 5 and 10 meals together I was like, have you though?

It’s good to know that after 25 years we still literally have no idea what the fuck is going on. Heee.

I’m lost whys everyone upset about the g and d press stuff

Well, it’s been weird for a while, in my perception at least, and the interview from today just kind of was the tipping point, I feel like. 

I’m oddly not as upset about it as everyone else seems to be. I’ve kind of been low-grade mourning their relationship for like a year and a half. I don’t know what happened, and it might be that nothing at all happened and they just were never that close. Trust me, I’ve considered all the possibilities. 

For whatever reason, two years ago Gillian had fun playing up her relationship with David, and now she no longer wants to. So, that could have a little or a lot to do with their actual relationship. 

I don’t know if this answered your question or not. Short answer: she sounds in her interviews lately about David the way David used to sound back in the days when we were all depressed about how they didn’t like each other.

Seriously though - what happened in that troll interview with the hair? What is the real answer$!11Q!$$!%!%!^!^!^!&? I am just so curious. Like they acknowledged to each other they're attracted but won't act on it? They tried it a bit and won't act on it anymore? TELL ME! She is so OBVIOUSLY trolling but WHYYyyyyy!

My opinion: 

Trolling: yes. 

Grain of truth: also yes.

Not going to happen: yes (no). 

A nice idea: also yes. 

“More than an attraction”: she meant “more than a friend attraction,” as in, she is/was attracted to him in a more-than-friends way. She was TRYING to be straightforward about the fact that, heck yes, David is attractive, and she’s not immune to that. (And, possibly, she was saying that the attraction was mutual.) The interviewer, who probably felt bad about putting her on the spot, was trying to mitigate it by being like, oh OK, but just a friend attraction. And she was like, well, no, a REAL attraction, because she’s Gillian and she likes to clarify what she means. But also because she’s Gillian, it came out slightly funny. 

Then she leaned into the trolliness with some hair flipping for good measure.

I always felt like Gillian and David try very hard to be independent of each other. Not that they don't get along but as actorsthey want to be more than Mulder and Scully. That could be one reason they won't attend each others walk of fame ceremonies. I'm sad David won't be there but in my mind this is a nicer reason than he was just too busy.

Yup, I think so too. 

It’s always been a weird little quirk (one of many) of their relationship that one way they’ve expressed love for each other is to give each other space. As far back as The Unnatural I remember someone asking Gillian about why David didn’t put her in the episode more and she was like “you don’t understand, having a day off is a GIFT.” 

Of course, that can be kind of a loaded thing, but what isn’t with them? But I don’t think it’s out of the question at all that they may both be conscious, to varying degrees in different situations, of trying not to horn in on the other one’s stuff, professional OR personal. If I had to guess (which I don’t, but I will anyway), I would say it’s probably a habit ingrained in them from the very beginning of their forced TV marriage. 

I, of course, like it when they horn in on each other’s stuff, but especially with XF mania being in full swing I could understand wanting to draw some lines.

On the other hand, it’s a frigging star ceremony, so in THIS VIEWER’S opinion, David’s ass should be there. Like, it’s not like it’s far from where he lives.
