Does it truly surprise you that people cannot fathom you being happy to love one being intimately and not have your eyes wander?
"Yes, a great deal of the world's population are monogamous. There is no reason why we might be incapable of it."
We need to speak, without Daniel. When you find the time and courage to meet do let me know.
Jory sat bathed in moonlight that poured through the windows like quicksilver, transforming the dark wood floors into a frozen lake. His laptop cast the only artificial light of blue-white and harsh illuminating his face as he watched the endless dance of stock figures with immortal patience.
The message alert cut through his solitude. He leaned forward, chair protesting beneath him, eyes sharpening with predatory focus.
"We need to speak, without Daniel. When you find the time and courage to meet do let me know."
His pale fingers suspended above the keys still as death itself. Market data dissolved into insignificance as he composed his reply with measured precision.
"I'll come, but why without Daniel? Where do you want to meet?"
After sending it, Jory sank into his Italian leather armchair, the knot between his shoulder blades tightening. From his hillside suite, the Los Angeles skyline sprawled beneath him with a view that had cost him seven figures. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the city lights punctured the night like a thousand tiny stars, a constellation he'd paid dearly to observe. He leaned forward, eyes narrowed, scanning each glittering district for any sign of movement that might reveal where Armand was hiding.

The bar was busy but not crowded when they arrived in the late evening, and Daniel secured them the table furthest back in the dimly lit space, sliding into the small booth and moving to the far side to leave ample room for his fledgling to sit next to him.
"Armand was right on time last night," he murmured, already scanning the other booths, barstools, and corners to make certain his maker hadn't come in early ahead of them. Seeing no sign of the older immortal he turned his attention fully back to Jory, reaching for his hand and offering a small smile as he continued. "... So I'm glad we came early."

Are you being consumed by your rage or should I prepare for what it is fuels?
"My rage has always been of the productive sort." Santino stared at the ever familiar creature before him as though he was naught but a mirage in the rain. When had he last seen him? At the trial? That was the last memory that offered him that cherubic, alien face in all its shining detail. Santino's mind is burning at both ends.
"What can I do for you, Armand?" The old vampire's voice has grown solid, smooth. Like granite. Foreign blood pumped through his veins and filed his senses to points. "I trust you come with something to say."
