We are our own worst enemy
We are our own worst enemy. Our lives are based on our own personal choices, our attitude and behaviour are based on our upbringing, but as the adult we can choose to change those things.
As a child, I was angry, I was my own worst enemy, but couldn’t see it. Even though the mental struggles were there, I innately knew what was happening, wasn’t about me. We become our own worst enemy when we don’t address things, we may not always agree that we have things to deal with, and yet others can see those things and the excuses continue to pile high.
I was around 14-years old when I came to realise the life I was made to live, wasn’t the life I wanted to live. I’ve talked about a higher power in my book Cerebral Palsy: ‘A Story’. I was also aware of my environment and the effect that had on me, and although I didn’t understand what any of it really meant until later, I had little choice but to bide my time.
Choose action over denial and acceptance instead of non-acceptance. Where we ultimately have the power to change, we may deny there is any reason to change. It’s down to someone else, and the issue with that is that if there is something that you are dealing with and you’re in denial, it may be something you later wish you had dealt with.
But we can choose to live a different life, choose to build better habits, and choose to be better people. We fall short when we live the lives we’re living, without thinking about how we’re living our lives, or what the effects are on others.
As the adult, unless we go on to choose the life we want to live, the beliefs we carry are ingrained in us from a young age. Beliefs pass through the generations that may not have a place in our lives, but it is important to understand, to evolve, to spiritually grow and to change. I changed and I haven’t looked back.
