a part of him wanted to protect his siblings and once he had thought that deuce was someone who actually needed this protection the most but he had seen her do things he'd never have expected or stood her ground against the tallest and most intimidating enemies without batting an eyelash and that was when he realised that maybe he really wasn't needed. rather than feeling sad about it, he thought that deuce had really grown so much these years. which overall didn't mean he wouldn't follow her, if she just left the group.

He didn't know what it was that seemed to cloud her mind, but... ever since running into her in the library, they kind of met again from time to time. Naruto knew he was simply admiring her from afar most of the time. She was part of that special class and Naruto simply figured, he’d get to know more, if he had one friend that belonged with those specially gifted.  What had once been his source of information turned into a friend Naruto wasn’t keen to let go off, but deep in his mind he knew he’d have to let go eventually. That letting go would be part of his fate, because while the blond wanted to fight for this academy and his people, he knew how dire the situation was and he could feel it in his bones; the end he couldn’t escape from.

Make every day count, he preached and talking to this girl was easy and often she’d just start laughing at his stupid antics. He did it because of her, Naruto was only half as much of an airhead as others made him out to be. “Don’t I always try to cheer you up? I mean, you’re already quite pretty, but a smile makes you just so much more beautiful. Believe me,” he told her with a grin and moved over to put an arm around her shoulder. “Now let’s eat something great and then ride some chocobos, young miss.”
