Every book that I have read with some sort of apocalyptic plot seems to have bled into humanity.
I am relieved that every other species on this earth is finally getting to breathe again.
Their freedom helps me continue on every day as humans watch the numbers grow on that virus map
as we wear masks and gloves the few times we go outside for resources
as I wash my hands for the 30th time in that same day
as my family and everyone else’s family struggles with finding basic supplies
as my common dreams are now based on surviving. on planning.
as the rich finish their 2nd drink and watch the sunset from their private island while they practice social distancing “live” on their Instagram account
as celebrities and other untouchable figures finally realize they are not immune and now have something in common with us- equal treatment by Mother Nature.
Their freedom helps me continue on every day as we see our world healing
as countless species are seen in typically heavily human populated areas
as the waters begin to clear and filter through our neglect
as trees begin to rise and spread in our absence
as humanity realizes that, this time, we are the prey to an organism that has met our match and doubled it
as we will go from now on for decades living consciously while we get to see our world grow more beautiful without us.
