#OurTomorrow 2018: Community. Dialogue. Connection.
Engagement matters. When we connect with others, we encounter diverse perspectives. When we build community, we learn to listen and understand our role and impact in the world around us. How are you bringing people together for #OurTomorrow? How do you stand with community? How are you connecting with others? Share a photo or story about your engagement as part of #OurTomorrow 2018.
Between January 28 and February 10, 2018, individuals, centers, colleges and universities will again join together to show that young people do have the power to make change through service and civic engagement. Use #OurTomorrow to show how you and your students are bringing people together - in service, at an event, through activities, with each other, on campus, in the community, the list goes on and on!
How did we emphasize the national collaborative power of #OurTomorrow? With a video featuring students from schools across the US! This video, created with the help of the Princeton University social media team, was an essential ingredient to helping #OurTomorrow pick up momentum online and giving partners from across the country an easy way to contribute and share.

Another great opportunity to share lessons learned! In this blog post for Princeton Social Media, I share what made a national social media campaign and collaboration between 12 colleges and universities not only possible, but a resounding success. #OurTomorrow brought schools and students together to celebrate and showcase the power service and civic engagement have to make a difference now and for the future. The online collaboration led to an in-person summer meet-up and plans to reboot #OurTomorrow for this academic year as well.
What an amazing day! I presented a “lightning talk” at Princeton Social Media Day about #OurTomorrow, the national social media campaign I launched with service and civic engagement colleagues from college and universities across the US in January 2017. In all students, staff, faculty and community members from 12 institutions shared more than 200 posts to show how they are making a difference for #OurTomorrow. (Learn more: ourtommorow.tumblr.com.) Plus, I moderated an inspiring panel discussion on how undergraduate and graduate students are leveraging social media to make an impact. Panelists shared insight on what works, what doesn’t, and pitfalls to look out for.
Talking to the young kids of the next generation. If we don’t build them up who will? You are our tomorrow! Let’s invest our time wisely. If we wait until we are old to start giving back it will be too late. Let’s all start now! #estherrhythm #estherosaji #ourtomorrow #nigeria 💚💚💚
3.19.17 visit to Space 1026 and Mural Arts Train Tour
Hey guys, it’s Jackson and I’ll be writing the blog entry for tonight (and our trips first entry!! woop woop). So today was a pretty light day, we visited two community partners, Space 1026 and the Mural Arts Train Tour. Space 1026 is a a two floor studio space dedicated to allowing its members a space to create their art as well as showcasing outside artists’ works. We all agreed, we LOVED Space 1026. We met with three of the organizations members and discussed their art, their inspirations, setbacks, motivations, etc. One member in particular, Max, really struck us all with his honest and introversion and ability to balance supreme levity with supreme wisdom.
The second thing we did was attend a mural arts train tour. Mural Arts is a wide ranging organization that works to make sure that art has a prominent place within the Philadelphia community. Today we took a train tour that showcased a city wide mural project entitled “Love Letters.” While we enjoyed the actual tour and appreciated the murals for their beauty, we felt like the tour lacked in explaining HOW this particular project tangible helped the community, if at all. We seemed to agree that there was an element of wanting to say they were helping the community without actually helping the community.
Our debrief today was honestly phenomenal. Because of our conversations about Mural arts (and the deficiencies we felt that program had) and Space 1026, we, as a group, actually came to begin discussing key issues within American culture right now, discrimination, institutionalized racism, self-segregation, and the like. We have two international students on our trip which leads to lots of great questions about American culture. As a result, we’ve already had some great conversations about how each of us interacts within our countries and within our communities. Overall I’m super excited about where this trip seems to be heading. I really feel like we’re bonding as a group and today was a great day 1. Signing off, Jackson
P.S. more pictures from today to follow in the morn
