agh different anon here but YES THE PROXY OF IT ALL, will representing hockey and the unreachable dream for aiden and aiden representing mack and the love they could have pursued for will and both things are inextricably tied up in mack himself as the inflection point but they can't stop themselves because it's so close and they can pretend and it's nearly enough OH GOD SO GOOD

and the mack of it all... the inflection point, as x approaches zero the limit approaches infinity.... he's right there in the room with them. he's the texture of the hands on will's hips, he's the rush of petty victory through aiden. even crazier actually if will and mack have never hooked up, never crossed that final un-crossable line and aiden is the one that gets there first.
is this how he feels? aiden thinks, thumb stroking over the curve of will's nape, high on the thrill of triumph, of getting there first, being number one, of playing a stupid game and winning a stupid prize.
