I have been practicing feather sticks with students today, this is a skill that took me a frustratingly long time learn to do well, though I still have a lot of room for improvement. In my opinion it's a great skill to learn, not only for it's direct practical use but becausecof the way it incorporates several other skill sets to do it well, knife use (And sharpening) tree I.D. and wood selection, effective use of a fire striker and also patience and self evaluation. I still have a little way to go until I'm happy with my feather sticks, but these work just fine! The second picture is a homage to a picture from the blog of @paulkirtley which was key to furthering my ability to produce decent feathers. #bushcraft #outdoors #woodlife #woodland #adventure #wilderness #wildernessskills #simpleliving #skillsnotstuff #stayandwander #greatoutdoors #featherstick #firelighting #bushcraftskills #knife #outdoorteaching #neverstoplearning https://www.instagram.com/p/BoWxyXGBQyK/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1pw7ga269n60a
