it’s with the most invisible of disappointments that the man realizes he’s out of matches -- just another thing he’s going to have to pick up at the store later, and another thing to stay in town for. irritating. although they preferred to keep their interactions with people as minimal as possible, this cigarillo was begging to be smoked. turning to the fella beside them, they said in their soft, gruff voice, almost betraying a sort of shyness : “ got a light? “
he had been in too deep of trance, his voice traveling down the halls. he hadn't expected reyes to come and find him. he seemed a little bit embarrassed, rubbing the back of his neck as he loosely drapes over his guitar. still being a new member of blackwatch, he had been the weird one out. didn't get along with anyone. honestly, he never thought that reyes would be interested in anything he was into. it wasn’t often he heard music emanate through the halls and it was confessedly an odd, but nice change of pace. he followed the sound to a small room tucked away — the others were off doing their owns things. genji was training. moira was lord knows where. and here was jesse mccree, off and alone, strumming his guitar ; playing songs long near lost to time. and initially gabriel simply leans in the door frame. listening. watching. a slow smile tugging fractionally at the corner of his mouth. there was a gentle melancholy in the young man’s voice, one that echoed familiarity that the elder shed as he refrained humming along.

and that’s when mccree had trailed off, seeming to notice reyes’ presence.

missions were tough, and they were constantly coming -- he’d seen more corpses of talon agents in the past few weeks than he had ever known existed. now that it was at a standstill, everyone in blackwatch was in high spirits, it was truly a rarity for them. to be relaxed & finally know that they had time to think about something other than their next fight. with things calmed down, even the usual grouchy genji was at ease. hearing it from the man in charge only finalized that this would be their last major mission for some time, once that was done they all seemed to agree mutually on parting ways to decide what to do with all of this new - found free time.
❛ it’s not over, you know. ❜ even in times of celebration, the youngest shimada could be quite the downer. as excited as mccree seemed about the decision to put the fighting on pause, he was still going to say something to ruin the happy atmosphere. though . . . he should have known that he couldn’t put a damper on the cowboy’s feelings so easily, that stupid smile of his was infectious & he hated it. ❛ but . . . things can be peaceful for now. ❜ genji added, giving up on his front. clearly, he was just as happy to have a break as the rest of the team. glancing about the room cautiously, he checked for the presence of anyone else still lingering behind, but besides the two of them --- the rest of the blackwatch group seemed to have no interest in each other’s company. as unfriendly as he could be, the ninja still put an effort to remain semi - social ( even if his attitude was not the best ). balancing on the tips of his toes, he placed a kiss to the man’s scruffy cheekbone, giving him a soft smile. ❛ it causes for celebration. this could never happen again. ❜
